Nathaniel Chalobah signs a one year deal

Only Godden approached NC's level of class on Saturday
Given that NC has shown some fragility over the years, seemed strange he wasn't rested until 90+ minutes
With the the game won he needs to be warming down and heading for the cotton wool until the next game.
75 minutes or so from him in 30+ league games this season will make for much happier viewing than last term.
Carey should pay close attention to NC's consistent level of quiet contribution.
The immediate control and accurate incisive passing are terrific of course but he's already halfway there by staying alert and always available, just by never checking out, he was always an option for his colleagues, with that extra split second of time.0 -
Wednesday mate says he's quality and if fit is very good.
From what I saw on TV, he's a playmaker which we've been crying out for. Basically anyone that can pass forward (with purpose).1 -
So, over the space of four seasons (2019/20 - 2022-/23) he missed only 15 games through injury and only once missed more than two consecutive games.ForeverAddickted said:ShootersHillGuru said:Anybody know exactly what injuries Chalobah has had to limit his availability. Is it a recurring thing or just a whole raft of niggles, strains and pulls ?
That's not someone with a fitness problem. That's a freakish improvement on pretty much any other Charlton signing!3 -
And since then?1
-

He helped us gain a point last season. Hoping we manage him well and rotate according to formation/opposition.0 -
There have been three seasons since 2022/23. It’s his record the last couple of seasons I’m worried about.Chizz said:

Did Doc play with a broken leg last season ?
Joking by the way1 -
Don’t underplay his part in our equaliser. Calmness in the melee to recycle the ball back out to Grant to stand up another cross from a dangerous area for Lloyd to nod home.11

Quality. That is all.2
-
His use of his body and the way he can shift his body weight to create space to shield the ball, to dribble away, or to pick a pass is simply a cut above most. He provides the fluidity we’ve needed in possession and, in doing so, makes everyone around him better.6

very economical with his running too which may be to manage his fitness but he seems able to still make it work, he can win the ball and get rid quickly.2
-
Bringing the best out in Coventry too.8
-
He's played more minutes than I'd have expected. Nearly the full game last week, and 85 today.
I imagine he'll play similar minutes at West Ham, then be rested for the Spurs game.5 -
This. His impact will be measured by his direct use of the ball but CC looks like a totally different player alongside himThe Red Robin said:Bringing the best out in Coventry too.2 -
He look knackered near the end. Need to manage his minutes which NJ is not great at as hefeels everyone should be ready to play the full 90 all the time.4

He is a really important signing for this season, somethings ive already picked up on:
Proper professional, always talking and giving encouragement to other players. From some of the videos i have seen. Makes the effort to know about our fan and club culture (asking about the tunnel jump and other things) also seems humble.
Could play a massive part in us staying up.
Need to keep him fit.3 -
Don’t think we win that game yesterday without him there. If he keeps playing like that he only needs to manage a handful of games before gambling on the injury risk was worth it1
-
Leader, comfortable with the ball, positive, technically a level above. All the things we’ve been desperate for.1
-
The Reason that Chalobah is a class player is because he can quickly scan the field and see a pass very quickly and I have thought this since I saw him play many games for England's U21 in his amazing 40 Apps with only longevity Milner playing more games than that.
He didn't dominate as much as against Cheltenham obviously but he just makes every player better around him. Even when we were chasing shadows for 20 minutes or so against a fluid passing Derby side it was Nathaniel who suddenly made a tackle to get CAFC going again.2 -

Injury watch - game 4 - time for a wee rest against spurs?13

I can't see him or Bell playing, Mesík and Ouma to come in at the very leastAlwaysneil said:Injury watch - game 4 - time for a wee rest against spurs?9 -
Good leader.1
-
Was watching the CBS stream yesterday and I'm sure the commentator said we got him from Chelsea.1
-
I'd like to see this. Just depends on if Ouma is thought to be fit enough to start yet.sam3110 said:

Does all the simple stuff well and his positional awareness is quality... Seems to always be in the right place for interceptions. Hope we can keep him fit, hes quality5
-
Coventry doesn't deserve to get dropped but if Ouma is the player he sounds like, him and Chalobah could be quite something together. There will be plenty of football for the three of them this season, that's for sure.2
-
This is the free hit game and the Preston game is so more important regarding the result.
Chalobah should be on the bench and maybe just 15 minutes as a reward and remind him of the big time that Nathaniel experienced at the beginning of his career.
Of course we want to win but we need to use the squad as the most important thing is the Championship and accumulating the points before the mandatory injuries occur adding to Charlie, Kayne, Matty and Josh.
The usual suspects will moan but we need to make many chances to the starting line up.
No idea if Ouma is consider ready but putting him on the bench could be beneficial.0 -
He’s played 45 mins for the U21s. No reason he can’t now do 60 mins……. Before swapping him for Mwamba on the hour. No extra time of course.crookester said:

Absolutely love the way he’s looking at our fans at the end here. He’s played at a lot of clubs, including some big ones and he seems enchanted by the madness of that away end
