With talk of a second ticket only for an U18, am I assuming correctly that U18's don't have there own loyalty points?

If the club allowed U18's to have there own loyalty points then that would make sense to go for one ticket per person. That way a parent could buy for a ticket for all of the eligible U18's?

The second ticket currently is effectively a 'general sale' ticket I think is the issue most people have with the system. Maybe if that second ticket was guaranteed to go to someone with the required loyalty points it may feel a bit fairer to people?
U18s can get loyalty points (I believe) but it would be hard for an 11 year old to get a huge amount of points, for example. They can get the ST ones easy enough but lots of parents aren’t going to want their kid trekking to Middlesbrough on a Tuesday night and maybe missing two days of school for it. If there was ever to be a move to one ticket per person there would have to be some kind of exception for U18s when it comes to points imo. You don’t want to discourage the fans of the future from going to away games
The other issue is, I brought two tickets in stage 5, one for me, one for my son, but the system doesn’t allow me to allocated the ticket to him to get him the points, so I now have to email the club (again) and hope they give him the points. If we moved to 1 ticket per person, he wouldn’t go to games, and just entrench away support to a smaller group, and lock out younger fans.

Posts like this often get Lol's and I don't understand why. It's an issue that would need to be fixed before a switch to 1 per person otherwise people like @Rothko might end up needing to choose between going alone without his son or not going at all

It'll be not going at all, which is a situation that doesn't really help moving forward, and effectively locks out a young fan from going to away games in the future, and East Yorks is just a twat I think

It is quite apparent that the supporters who rarely attend away matches have little idea how the system works, or cannot understand how to navigate the ticketing website.
The Loyalty Point system has been in place for several years & yet these same people moan & groan when they are unable to purchase a ticket for games at Millwall ,QPR, Portsmouth or if we get a very attractive cup-tie.
It will be interesting to see how many of these people buy tickets for the upcoming away games at West Brom, Stoke, Cardiff, Burnley & Middlesborough for example when the away allocation will be quite large & will probably go straight on general sale.
Clive, I have noted your well informed comments over long period of time. I have inferred that you have close connections to the club. It's true that the dedicated fans who travel everywhere should have the first choice/opportunity. I choose my words carefully- I think there a lack of commercial judgement/wisdom of the demand to attend
    1) London Club
    2)premier team
    3) state of the art ground
    4) team we rarely play

Clearly these tickets were going to sell out.

The structure of the sale gave the "die hard" fans not only an advantage they merited but an additional one they didn't.

This fixture needed a different approach. A standard way of thinking was used."the way we usually do it'

It's true in my case that I don't understand the loyalty point system, I always have to check how many points I have on these occasions. The way it operates it is in effect a closed shop. OK fair enough when there are restricted number of tickets. This game had a relative abundance.

I hope the learning from this can be applied to future high demand fixtures.

And that, in a nutshell is the bit that needs looking at and could be changed - nobody hasa  problem with regular '2nd ticketers for away games going - its the thought that a lot of those 2nd ticketers for a game like this may be glory boys / one offers who don't even have a season ticket or attend many games - could well be fans of other clubs.

Even less if there are two of you, go 50/50 on the monthly payment and you can get a ticket each and maybe win a prize or two.

This is it in a nutshell.
If you currently don't have sufficient points then spend £120 on Valley Gold for a year which, in most cases, will enable you to get those away tickets that you want.
During that year those ticket purchases will help to increase your points total. If it doesn't increase your points total sufficiently then continue your Valley Gold membership.

Just a reminder to everyone that West Brom and Stoke tickets go on general sale in 20 minutes.

Great opportunity for those currently stuck outside the closed shop.

I have no close connections to the club.
I happen to take a lot of interest in the ticket / Valley Gold situation because i have attended thousands of games supporting Charlton home & away & plan to attend as many games as possible in the future.
I also try & pass on all relevant information to this forum, the information is all on the website if you are prepared to read it.
For the 152nd time the loyalty point system

    https://www.cafc.co.uk/loyalty-points-explained

Last season we probably averaged 1,500 supporters at away games.
Our average home gate is over 20,000.
Everybody with a season ticket or is a member of Valley Gold gets enhanced priority of some description to tickets for away games, it is not a closed shop.
The allocation for Spurs or West Ham was never going to be enough, but people have to realise these clubs have fantastic support, West Ham for example 53,000 season ticket holders, when they play at The Valley their allocation will be just over 3,000 imagine the demand for that from their fans.
The gate money from game at Spurs is split equally between the clubs, it makes no difference how many Charlton fans attend, Spurs could probably sell the tickets.
For League games the home club keeps probably 90% of the receipts, so for Charlton, tomorrow they are making hardly any money from this game.
Are you a Valley Gold member/ Season Ticket holder, do you attend many away games?

It’s not a bad thing for the club to review the arrangements from time to time.

Lots of constructive comments on here and personally if I was a new season ticket holder I’d believe I would be able to get a ticket for this match, based on the allocation, even if I was unable to bring a mate along. I don’t think that would be an unreasonable assumption.

The club do not want to discourage new season ticket holders who want to feel part of the Charlton community and may be unaware how the stages / phases work.

Sorry, why would you think that ?
There are way more season ticket holders than tickets available for this game - how would that work ?

Coz not all season ticket holders would want an away ticket and a new season ticket holder may be unaware that its 2 tickets per person - as was i - you'd probably think you have a good chance of being in the reasonable assumption of say 50% of season ticket holders who want one - my mate didn't get one and he's had a season ticket for over 40 years - he doesn't get to every home game but he still buys an ST and his comments after he missed out contained some spicy language and questioned whether he'll bother with the ST going forwards. The 2 ticket thing needs sorting out.

    May I make a suggestion?

Try reading the information presented to you!

@clive does a sterling job posting up all the relevant articles from the club website - across a number of different threads throughout each season - as well as providing the links to said stories and others chip in with the links/text too.

Regarding the Spurs tickets the sentence on the website immediately prior to the description of the various phases was:

Qualifying supporters can purchase two tickets.

The ticket information for the Spurs game appeared on Page 10 on this thread and has been discussed ad nauseum since.

Anyone unaware of either the number of tickets each supporter can buy or their eligibility for each phase of sale really have no-one to blame but themselves.

If you want a ticket for a particular match - home or away - it's up to you to seek out that information from the club website or on here and then act on it.

I'm sorry if the above comes across as a bit preachy or arsey but the whinging that goes on does my head in sometimes.

I don't speak as a hardcore away traveller; I've not done that since the late 80s. These days it takes too much time and money maintaining a presence at home matches and almost all away games would be even worse.

As a result I have my fingers crossed that I can get a ticket on the rare occasion I want to go to an away game knowing full well that my eligibility is somewhat compromised. I missed out on West Ham but got lucky yesterday with Spurs tickets. I'll then take my chances with Norwich tickets after Christmas.

At the end of the day the club is doing its best but it's never going to be able to satisfy everyone. What you prefer them to do: draw up a rota so that fans can see when it's their turn to go to an away game when the demand will outstrip supply?

away followings have improved tremendously recently for us
Quite a few times in the Prem we didn't sell out local derbys never mind northern away trips
i bought an away season ticket first year we were up , it will be a nice problem to have again
all those  mincing about not getting a ticket for the glory boy new ground bollox have plenty of away games with loads of availability coming up that may not be on their doorstep but will have a bigger say on how our season is defined .
Everyone is different but it seems to me people are more interested in the new ground/big team we're playing than supporting our own team ....

If we moved to 1 ticket per person, he wouldn’t go to games, and just entrench away support to a smaller group, and lock out younger fans
Wouldn’t go to games? A huge amount go to general sale though

Seems to me that the notion of a member having access to priority tickets in preference to non members is a misnomer. What probably should happen, it's my opinion and nothing else, is the first tranche of tickets released should be single tickets not doubles, that would then fit the title of priority ticket for member categories. If a member doesn't take up his single ticket then that would join the second issue where two tickets could be claimed.
Sadly it’s not the amount of tickets or the priority that’s stopped you getting the tickets it’s the fact that you weren’t trying to buy them at the time clearly stated (11am). That’s all it boils down to.

The 'closed shop' is open to anyone prepared to go to away games and join Valley Gold on top.
    I have VG.

If that person hasn't worked it out after 40 years as a season ticket holder I don't think they're going to work it out now!
Not a case of the rules as stated aren't clear, just they are wrong for such high demand games as they exclude fans who have greater merit to them

away followings have improved tremendously recently for us
Quite a few times in the Prem we didn't sell out local derbys never mind northern away trips
i bought an away season ticket first year we were up , it will be a nice problem to have again
all those  mincing about not getting a ticket for the glory boy new ground bollox have plenty of away games with loads of availability coming up that may not be on their doorstep but will have a bigger say on how our season is defined .
Everyone is different but it seems to me people are more interested in the new ground/big team we're playing than supporting our own team ....
This - the last time I went Spurs away (prem game, we won 3-2, Martin Jol's first game in charge?) I arrived late and there was a hell of a queue to buy tickets, would have missed about 20 mins of the first half. There was a tout selling  ticket for the away end, which I bought - in the process of haggling he informed me "the away end's completely sold out, mate" to which I laughed in his face and told him 'Don't be ridiculous, this is Charlton!'

Of course there were spare seats!

This closed shop has a key which which anyone can buy for £120
Even less if there are two of you, go 50/50 on the monthly payment and you can get a ticket each and maybe win a prize or two.
Don't share that on here, they’ll all want to do it

So let's make it way more complicated by moving the goalposts every away game? Then you'll just have more people complaining that it's clear as mud.

The system we have now is the best compromise on all fronts.

Some people will miss out, that's the way the cookie crumbles

You've been on this forum for 12 years, how didnt you know that things like this are 2 pp ?
i don't do many away games these days - i'm not complaining about being ignorant of the rules - that's my look out - i've been on here about 20 years with a few years break and came back on when the Duchatalet problem started, hence the name (nothing to do with washing my arse)
