An interesting article on West Ham Till I Die, particularly the section on Club Connections, which lists all the players and managers who have represented both clubs. I always loved reading Dr Kish's selection of the 'best team' and used to try and come up with one myself (usually in vain) before then reading his vastly superior line up. He would have had an absolute field day with tomorrow's match.
Look at the quality of players who have played for both clubs: Billy Bonds, Paul Konchesky, Scott Minto, Simon Webster, Chris Powell, Scott Parker, Lee Bowyer, Robert Lee, Paolo Di Canio and Derek Hales, amongst others.

Looking forward to tomorrow's game, which should be a great occasion. It's imperative that we don't concede early on and that, even with West Ham dominating possession, it's important that we carry a threat on the counter attack. I watched a good chunk of West Ham's game against Portsmouth and, whilst they were generally unimpressive in the first half, Kante and Bowen produced a couple of momenets of real quality to completely turn the game on its head. That's the problem with playing this sort of team but the longer we can frustrate them and the crowd, the better.6 -

I don't want to sound too cynical but Will Mannion knows that Arthur O hasn't come to Charlton to keep the bench warm.
Didn't Nathan once say Kaminski wasn't playing as he fell over !

Super preview FA .. this game will tell us a lot about both teams, are the 'Ammers up for the tough fight to get back to the top table, are we good enough to make a mark on the table this season ?. I think yes to both questions
On paper this looks like a cert home win, BUT (all together now) games ain't played on paper, they're played on turf
Really looking forward to this one.
Alas I won't be at the 'London Stadium' except in spirit. We'll give it a right good go, and .. we will see what happens1 -
The win last week was perfect for our mindset tomorrow, as we can relax and play our game, knowing we already have points on the board. The pressure is far more on the home side.
I'm sure the NJ "keep it tight" tactics will be used. The longer it continues goalless, the more things will get tense in the home areas, it won't take much to get the natives restless. AND we do have some decent pace on the break too.4 -

You just know what is going to happen.
TC will have the game of his life, score 2 goals - one after a run from the half way line in which he beats 5 players - and make 2 more as we romp to a 4-0 win.
West Ham think we need to spike Charlton's challenge and immediately offer £10 million.
We initially refuse their offer and Campbell goes on strike. In the end, we reluctantly sell him on transfer deadline day.
Shades of Spotty Parker and Chelsea all over again!

Listing players who played for both clubs got me thinking about goalkeepers and I came up with Noel Dwyer and Darren Randolph. Both reputedly liked a drop of the hard stuff.3

Very tough game to start with as Pompey found out in the cup. Think they will win the league and go straight up so we should make the most of the game. Think we will play ok but they will be too strong for us, 3-1 to West Ham.1

Looking at their squad last week, they named eight players who were aged 20 and under, including their two starting central midfielders. I hope there's an opportunity to take advantage of the lack of experience.3

It's hard to recall now but round about 2000-2005 that lot were a team we'd expect to get FAPL points off (if they were even in the FAPL with us). Based in Prague I used to pray they'd start Tomáš Řepka against us, because Robbo would torture him. It seemed like only a matter of time when we'd become a bigger club than them in London.
Then the wheels came off our wagon. And meanwhile along came the Olympics. And then came the shoddy deal for the Stadium. And then my little campaign to uncover how shoddy it was.
Because of that, I paid more attention to them than most. Yeah, I know, the club rather than the fans, but you know what? They were mostly for that stadium and didn't like anyone who questioned it. They certainly didn't like me on KUMB, but what bothered me was how Brady orchestrated intimidation of those few of their own fans who opposed it.
The thing was, even though we (there was a coalition of Supporter Trusts on the case) arguably won the argument, I always felt a tinge of sadness about it. I could not see how we would be playing there in my lifetime in a league game. I could not see it in 2018 when we'd got the whole deal out in the open. I certainly could not see it just 3 years ago when they all pitched up in Prague to win the EuroConference thing against Fiorentina. Two divisions between us, and financially on different planets.
And yet, tomorrow, here we are. At the Taxpayers' Stadium, in a league game. Think about that for a moment.
Rationally, we will do well to escape from there without a heavy beating. Yeah, well rationally 3 years ago this game was never going to happen. Football doesn't always do rational. And actually of all our recent managers I can't think of anyone better than Nathan Jones to lead us in there and show them what this league is about.

2-0 down inside 15 minutes i feel. New goalkeeper or not, ours will be overcome with shyness in front of such a large crowd. Further goals after the break as Jones is tactically exposed. However the -2 handicap at 13/5 is a bit tight so i'm perming that with selected others, to include Millwall and Palace, each -1. Winnings will help pay towards a facelift in later life.1

The cup game was everyone’s bonus last preseason game. We, as it turned out for most of us I suspect, were unexpectedly fitter than we normally are and certainly more coordinated as a team for that stage of the season. My guess is, like last season when we beat them in the last preseason game, Pompey were not ahead of schedule and home advantage eventually told.BansteadAddick said:Very tough game to start with as Pompey found out in the cup. As I’ve mentioned already, West Ham have yet to encounter their welcome to the Championship experience because their first league game last week was against Burnley. They could recover from the initial shock of the pace and absence of time on the ball, as we did against Watford last season, except I think we may just be too good to let them.
We just need to do our usual bit away from home to stifle the home fans, turn up early, make lots of noise before the game starts and keep it going continuously until the game has finished. I suspect Nathan and the players will do their bit.

I went to the first game there and left with 10 minutes to go so avoided the delays.I'll be interested in what happens tomorrow and hopefully we'll be celebrating a win with a relatively easy getaway for the 3000(plus 3000 in home end) fans.

Interesting game, will NJ return to previous defensive hoof ball or continue the one run of games with attempting passing? Do we have the personnel for either approach to work? My guess is the ball will be up in the air , but it’s a guess. Either way it’s a game of football so there’s always a chance0
