Without wanting to make it 8, i think miles would be better in the 10, as works hard, can attract defenders towards him, and can get some flicks on. Then put some pace ahead of him. That would allow grant to be on the left as well.Sword65pf said:
Or actually sign someone fit for purpose, every side have a player like Moylan today for example as he is the easiest to mention, we have NOBODY close to that player, how many of us said that was needed in the summer, yet the club chose to keep the powder dry and fail to use it. Fuming with that today we were absolutely spanked and didn’t have the bollox to react. NJ needs to earn his corn now, always backed him but this type of performance is happening more often, he needs yo look at himself 1st and go from there. So pissed off with that today.😤Southbank said:We have now tried 7 different players in the 10 spot and none have convinced. I think NJ has to work out a system that does not require any of our supposed 10s, as Knibbs, Carey, Ouma all look League One or worse. Maybe play Kelman or Godden there if fit, otherwise I fear for our survival.0 -
Could have scored 2 more, when Grant and Kelman both missed good chances. But could have conceded a lot more too - Cardiff looked a threat whenever they attacked and it was a mixture of good goalkeeping and sheer luck which stopped that from being an even worse scoreline.
Of the new players - Okonkwo, McNamara, Koumetio and Mesik have impressed but all of the others give cause for concern. I'm hoping they will all improve with more game time but Ouma and Alli look way out of their depth so far.5 -
I’d prefer Grant to be left on the bus at the moment .2121 said:

In fact, I have just told my wife she can book a holiday at the end of May next year as I'm now pretty convinced my attendance at the play-off games will not be required!4 -
It’s not a coincidence that the solid signings we made have all been defensive. The recruitment team is terrible at finding good attacking players.Davo55 said:Could have scored 2 more, when Grant and Kelman both missed good chances. I do get what you are suggesting, but that’s still crowbarring a player into an unnatural position, just sign a real 10, at least it gives us a chance, the championship isn’t a league to just try things out, it may work for a game or two but you get found out. Everyone knew what we needed and the club decided not to spend.2121 said:

The issue is, those were are only other chances outside of the goal. We simply don't create enough to score more than 1 goal a game, 2 if we're luckyDavo55 said:Could have scored 2 more, when Grant and Kelman both missed good chances. Alli and Grant: Think they deserved a chance, thought they might work out, but they are really lacking.Bindon and Ouma: Worse than that, actually a liability, regardless of the decent assist today.TC: Worked his knackers off once again. Now knows that if the only passing option in/edge of the box is Ouma, maybe just take a blind shot instead.
Leaburn: Needs to figure out how to either stay on his feet or actually get the cards dished out to his opponent. Then his other abilities will really start to pay off.
Mesik: Unsung hero today I think. One wayward pass which almost lead to another goal, but does enough the rest of the time for that to be brushed off I think. Very good performance. Not sure of the hate for Skipp. I think he reads the game pretty well, and made some important challenges today, despite other times being just as "meh" as many of the others.
Oh well. Koumetio and Chalobah back after the break. Hopefully we can keep them going for a few weeks at least and our fortunes will improve.EDIT: Need to mention Okonkwo too. Couple of good saves there. Maybe not a massive upgrade on what we had before but I think an upgrade nonetheless.3 -

Outplayed all over the park.
How do teams always find so much space against us in dangerous areas?
We need Chalobah and Koumetio back after the international break.
Have to give Cardiff some credit. They looked a decent, well-coached team.

The problem is that we cant afford anyone good, and we mKe desperate signings. Did we even get any of our targets? Maybe koumetio and mesik. So we need to make something work with what we have!Sword65pf said:

Not trying to create something that’s not there, but wonder if the players throwing me under the bus comment after Stoke hasnt helped NJ. Just a theory nothing else?3

It was not so much as Cardiff looking impressive, more a case of us looking way off, and just inviting pressure the entire game.
Talk about “after you sir”, we’ll just wait here while you walk past out totally inept and frankly non existent midfield, it was beyond embarrassment…7 -
I'll keep saying this the injury proneness and/or quality of our squad depth is really concerning everyone is either hurt or shite1

A disappointing and concerning defeat. We're seeing the same problems as last year, we don't create enough and we're hoping we can nick results. 2-0 down in the first 30 minutes and you just know that it's game over. We need to see a vast improvement after the break.2

I'd give Ouma time and think he'll get it. His brain's too quick for most of ours a lot of the time, like when he dropped the ball for Skipp and Skipp didn't move. He's very mobile too. The mistake or misfortune, is playing him with Skipp bedding in, plus Alli when off key or inconsistent, and Bindon, who i think weakens and distracts the whole side (though i'm not sure of the latter 2 were off the pitch already when Ouma came on today). Still Ouma the puma for me.4

Jones has some serious problems.
In my view he needs to bring some attacking coaching experience into his back room staff, he and the current staff clearly are unable to coach patterns of play or progression of the ball.
Our play is dreadful. Has been for over a season and we look like we going backwards rapidly18 -
It will take some time to adjust, New players and formation, as well as trying to be more attacking. Growing pains.
Why so negative? We haven't been in this position for many years, some people just enjoy the negativity.6 -
Oh mate, i can only think you are trying to boost your LOL score with that comment!swords_alive said:I'd give Ouma time and think he'll get it. I’m afraid that we were totally outclassed today and could easily have conceded 5 or 6 goals.
Most of the team were poor and Bindon (assist aside) and Ouma were pretty dismal. The only players to emerge with any real credit were Okonkwo, Campbell and Leaburn.
The train cancellation puts the tin hat on a very disappointing day.4 -
Mate I appreciate the effort of positivity but after watching that you must be a saint!!! Growing pains??, we looked like we were in agony!!😂jackmasterflash said:It will take some time to adjust, New players and formation, as well as trying to be more attacking. Growing pains.

To be absolutely fair- we were poor, exceptionally poor. Cardiff weren't fantastic either but took their goals well and even without playing brilliantly they still outplayed us by a significant margin. Not nearly good enough Charlton.
Let's all enjoy the xg cobblers......oh........perhaps not.0 -
Theres "being happy out of possession" but we appear to have an absolute hard-on for it.8
-
We were very much outplayed, but when 2-1 down, grant squares that ball to TC to put it in an empty net rather than try and shot from a shit angle and it's a very different game, Kelman scores his chance or doesn't get called offside (wrongly) again it would have been an absolute robbery but although completely outplayed across the whole pitch we could well have still come away with a point or more. They looked poor at the back and we just didn't pressure them enough. TC & Leaburn had good games the rest no where near good enough. Defended on the edge of the 6 yrd box rather than the edge of the box, skip and cov far far too deep, mainly because jones and Bindon were also so so deep.
Maybe we should try Leaburn in the 10 and kelman up top, and we have to somehow find a RW option, the 10 although glaringly obvious if we solved the wing positions any of the CM or leaburn/kelman could play there and at least we'd be solid in the middle of the park0 -
Skipp was our best midfielder today. Not saying he was great but he was better than the rest of them.swords_alive said:I'd give Ouma time and think he'll get it.
