Oh well. At least it is the international break over. It seems to have been going on forever.

    Cracking game, really enjoyed that.

Really enjoyable game to be at - probably the most interesting match at Wembley in a few years.

Spain’s movement and individual skill was incredible to see up close - especially Lamine Yamal.

But it was refreshing for us to play a team at Wembley who weren’t parking the bus, so that we could also have a go on the break from time to time.

First game I can remember in a long time where most fans seemed willing to stay to the end to see how it played out.

UEFA deserve credit for the Nations League. I don’t agree with it being ‘glorified friendlies’. It will only be that if the teams treat it that way - and Spain and England both had a right go at it tonight. Quality game.

Whole back four need dropping after that all of Spains goals were down to our poor passing or marking and in the main by City players.
  • Thought we matched them in midfield and up front, although Kane looked a bit leggy. But dear oh dear, you cant afford to gift goals to Spain, miss a penalty and expect to get anything out of the game. Our defence is poor,it was in the semi against Argentina and it was against Spain. This poncing about at the back is doing my head in,we gave away 2 needless goals and it could have been more, why take short goal kicks in your own 8 yard box when you have lightning quick opposition players chasing you down,it is brainless, just hit it long up the flanks,Saka and Gordon are both capable of holding the ball up and both had success against their respective markers.Every week now you see more and more errors being forced by defenders being closed down,it is a tactic which has had its day and will result in more and more goals being conceded.

Lots of positive aspects to the game and England would have probably won had Kane scored that pen. The downside was how bad the defence were. That is something that is going to hold us back until we find a couple of the right players. In terms of the poncing about at the back, Guehi had a forward pass on and did the stock turn back which Limal was wise to. The best players have to play the foward pass every time and I would drop him for that.
  • I don’t think our defence is good enough. I like Konsa as I have watched him develop through the age groups. But he is just not good enough. Neither is Quansah. I thought Guehi was poor yesterday. Also O Reilly gave away a goal. I would have  Hall at left back and TAA at right back and would even bring Maguire back,

I would be angry at defending like last night in an u14 game. Really good atmosphere at the game.

  • Turned on as VAR were checking for our penalty. I’m a jinx.

Never seeing Quansah play again at RB would be too soon - he’s crap.

Too crass errors by man c defenders (2 more charges to be added to the list lol) and a penalty miss by an uncharacteristically nervous and out of sorts 'Arry K cost us the match
Spain were good from keeper to striker, England's midfiekd and attack were good, defence poor and why drop (or 'rest') Pickford for such an important game?
    The Spanish bandwagon rolls on

This was not an issue for me.
I thought Trafford did alright. Not much he could do about the goals and made some important saves.
You could argue he was part of the problem passing it around at the back, but his back four dropped him in it a number of times with iffy back passes and he actually got us out of a mess in these situations a few times with calm kicking.
Understanding between a keeper and his defence builds over time. You can’t build that understanding from the bench.
Also, Pickford can’t go on forever. We need younger keepers to have proper games against proper opposition to prepare for the future.

I've no problem with giving Trafford games, as we need the backup to be used to playing the best opposition, but Pickford is only 32, so has plenty of years left in him.

Yes, it was good test for us. For a long time, England have been really good at comfortably beating all the countries we ought to beat, but come up short against the very highest level teams, so we need these games against top quality opposition to try and reach the next level.

To me it appears that all this poncing about at the back is coming from the management. Don’t think it works now it’s old fashioned tactics to an extent everybody knows how to play against it.

Don't rate the manager, who once again takes off one of our better players on the night and got exactly the same result as he did against the argies.

We are irresistible going forward. Continuing on from the third place play off…..

Imagine Terry Ferdinand etc in this team
    Who’s Terry Ferdinand?

could be talking about a Charlton game here, apart from the argies bit.

Cracking game of football. Shame it was decided by errors (though tbh, I think most football matches are nowadays). No shame in losing to Spain, but if you want to beat the best, you need the whole team to concentrate for the whole of the game; matching them for 85 minutes isn't enough, you have to cut out all lapses.

Not at all bothered about the competition though. It just pisses me off that there's such a long break to our domestic game, just as it's got going. Still, I'm sure someone somewhere is making a huge pile of cash out of it and that's what the game's all about, isn't it?

Don't want to single him out as our whole defence was poor, but i honestly don't see why Tuchel thinks he is a right back. It baffles me how he played the whole game there, when we've got Trent sat on the bench.

I get the "Trent can't defend" argument, but I refuse to believe Quansah is a better option there, and i hope we see Trent there for the Czech game on Tuesday.

  • Well it looked like Quansah couldnt defend either - so frankly if it is down to who the better is going forward, then it's a no brainer. Trent by default.

Yes, if there's question marks around the defending of both then you surely pick the player who can offer more in other areas, which is obviously Trent.

That said, we do have James, Spence and Livramento unavailable so if they were all fit i'd like to think Quansah wouldn't get a look in.
