My apologies. I was still raging about the mistake from Edwards. Yes I meant Arthur.Fortune 82nd Minute said:

Uundoubtedly ref should have sent Edwards off.
Yet another terrible watch. Not looking forward to watching this kind of football throughout winter.
If the latter, it's a fair call.2 -
Lucky to be level at HT, but the shift to 3 at the back, removing the off the pace Edwards and ineffective Mbick definitely improved us. We still look ordinary, but created the best chances in the second half, and looked more solid.
One of those days where both teams looked more dangerous when they went direct.3 -
Happy with a point, on another day couldve nicked all 3 at the end,TCs miss(es) and a great save from Knibbs free kick meant it ended all square. They spent the entire game whinging at the ref and i feel that if he had booked Twine for it in the 1st half they may have wound it in a bit. Arthur could possibly have seen a red for that challenge but 2nd half, all City did was give him catching practice from countless crosses. A point apiece is probably all either side deserved.2
-
Weird one, as we definitely deserved a point on balance of play and could have nicked it. We were due a ref who was terrible in our favour and he definitely helped us in the first half, although clearly tried to even it up in the last 20. Atmosphere might have been the worst I’ve heard for a Saturday afternoon, which maybe speaks to the level of entertainment served up. I think we are close to being a mid table team, but there are some glaring gaps that are going to make it tough to get there.2

Coventry doesn’t concede that cheap penalty and we win the game, so small margins.3

I'm really not a fan of the Cov/Skipp CM partnership29

A solid first 15 minutes but we were pretty pants after that.
I think Mcnamara ending the game at right wing was a weird choice, and TC was clearly spent, but Alli mustn't be up to much in training if he can only get on for 3 mins at the end.
Knibbs and Kelman did nothing to keep up the pressure that we built up leading up to the big TC chance, and it felt like the game was always going to peter out after that.
A point gained but yet again were ultimately undone by an individual mistake by us rather than a glorious piece of play by the opponent
We spent all summer planning to play wingers & although we didnt manage to sign JRS we did bring in Alli and Nkeng...............but we end up in the last 20 mins relying on our rightback to attack & put crosses in.
We need to stick to our pre-season thinking & play with 2 wingers. And play with a natural striker (Kelman or Godden) - Mbick is NOT the answer.3 -
Well the prolonged international break meant that one crucial part of the team was able to resume his high standard of performance. Step forward Billy who was outstanding today.
The team did it again and gave us 15 minutes of very positive football, along with a finely taken goal by Grant. But then we had to watch half an hour of City dominance when Edwards was shown up on several occasions and nearly cost us the services of our keeper. I honestly hope that this was just a player being a bit rusty (although that begs the question why he started at all). The alternative is that he may be lacking at this level whilst we have more than adequate cover in the position in the shape of Mesik or Bell.
I prefer 4 4 2 but there is no doubt that the team looked far better (with the addition of Mesik and Ramsey) when it went to a back five. Skipp in particular looked more proactive in the new shape and more chances were created with TC failing to bury the best chance late on.
City looked a well balanced side but lacking that killer finish, similar to QPR. It was a relief when their two best midfielders (one bearing a resemblance to a young Alan Curbishley) went off.
NJ needs to sort out just what shape team he wants to field and play those who best fit the shape.4 -
Was feeling a bit down after watching that, so I opened this thread to make myself feel worse, but you've all cheered me up a bit and helped me see the silver lining in the clouds. It's not true what they say: you aren't all a load of miserable old gits.11

Would you have stuck with the 4-2-3-1 then?golfaddick said:

Even though we vastly improved when we changed to 3-5-2?

Didn't do enough to win, had a few ropey moments as well which Bristol didn't take advantage of.
Very little of our play is controlled, alot of hopeful balls forward at times4 -

All in all a fair result. Neither team did enough to win it & second half we dug in before 5 at the back gave us some solidity.....even if meant we lost any attacking threat.
Big problem is that it's another home game we didn't win. 2 away games coming up - if we lose both our good start to the season could be up in smoke.5 -
Poor game that neither side deserved to win. We struggled to get going and when we did, we had no ideas. A goalkeeping error and a free-kick were our only real chances in the second half.
Some of the individual decision-making by McNamara, Coventry, Skipp and Grant, and later Ramsay and Mesik, were poor.
We've had so many windows to improve upon the Doch-Cov partnership and sort the midfield out. I'm disappointed that it's the glaring weakness yet again. Cov and Skipp are like the spiderman meme. They're the same player.

We needed a bit of good luck to win that… had Campbell’s chance in the box went in, or had he found Coventry wide open in front of goal. Conversely, a bit of bad luck and Bristol would have been playing against ten men and likely would have run rampant. I’ll take the point because we’re an underpowered side looking to compete above our budget and they’re better than most think.6

A point that might be priceless at the end of the season but so close to a win if only TC had managed to put that chance away. One grumble, so many freebies turning up 10-15 minutes late and causing so much disruption trying to find and get to their seats. If you have a complimentary please have the decency to turn up on time!2

Bit surprised by the mostly negative comments at the start of the thread.
Thought we were good for the first 15 mins or so, then poor until around 55/60 when changing to the 352 brought us back into it. We were the better team after that.
Definitely good value for a point and could, and maybe should, have nicked it.
Quite enjoyed it as well and think the boring to watch comments are a bit over exaggerated (for this game in particular, not in general).11 -
Just a bit quick jumping on the "very league one" stuff, that's allDiebythesword said:

Felt we should have won that. I'm not as down as some, thought we had some good passages of play and Grant took his goal well. Campbell should have scored, won't have an easier chance. Koumetio was outstanding.
Think Bristol will fade as the season goes on, don't think they were that good tbh.
Edwards struggled for sure. Understandable but would have started Mesik, think hes played well enough to earn that. Thought Cov was overall poor.
As I say much better but need that win now.

Exactly. Charlton station was full of Germans and Americans after the game.CAFC_boi said:Also - just how many tickets did they give away in Greenwich park?? Thought I was watching a game in Germany not England with all the people around me. I imagine quite a lot to get us above 20k attendance.0 -

Great that we're mid-table just now. However the same old issues persist from the past season. Few, if any goals, blowing leads and leaking goals. Relegation zone stuff regrettably. I hope not.1

Got nothing to do with giving a chance, it’s commenting on the match you watch.eastterrace6168 said:

He looked rusty in his cameo at Cardiff and was well off it today. He hasn’t got match sharpness and was blowing out his arse from about 25 mins. He looks about 4 U21 games short of match fitness still. No one is writing him off or not giving a chance, but he should not have been starting today.30 -
Think I was just expecting a bit more in terms of our play style. We don’t seem to be able to take control of games for extended periods of time. We play like we’re an away team1
-
Excellent point we stated very well playing a new 442 formation and scored a well taken goal through Grant .. but think City then changed their system which made it more difficult for us and they come into the game .. a pen ?? not sure seem to make slot of it and that goal gave them bit of confidence.. second half we changed systems went to 5 at the back then changed again to 3421 very even tactic game .. big chance Campbell has to do better should score , then 92 mins Knibbs free kick just going in top corner , until the keeper finger nails tipped it over so close … all in all fair point and deserved point … if you look how far we come again lost 1-2 last year and today there was nothing between us and an established championship side ..MOM Billy , but Skipp and Coventry outstanding in mid8

So the boy was hungry!!, went to the family stand eatery he wanted a pie, had no pies because they hadn’t got them up to temperature, who thought they might need to sell pies at a match?!!, we don’t usually get food at the game, I now know why people say it’s shit!!😂, anyway the game?, bit like the pies, not up to temperature !!, we really need to cut out the silly mistakes putting ourselves under pressure, was happy with 4-4-2 at the start but we dropped off after the goal, Josh was rusty and needed to be hooked, but still think he will be back at it, sorry but still not having Mbick must be unbelievable in training. We aren’t quite clicking for long enough in games, every department of the team needs to find a way of upping it. Finding us a frustrating watch at the moment, dare I say our most important player is an injury prone freebie, we haven’t learned any lessons have we?🙄6

Echo Billy - my MOTM too.Fortune 82nd Minute said:Been critical of Jones in the past for taking too long to make subs or change things but moving to 3 5 2 after only 8 minutes of dross in the second half saved us getting beaten today.
Sadly I think this is the way forward for us again, at least over the next few games.
Big shout out to Billy. A clear MOM today.
And whilst great to see Josh back, he was so rusty he looks miles away from being ready to come back into the team.
I fear we have another relegation battle firmly on our hands.
Also think Metik should start at LB instead of Edwards.7 -
Actually started the game well. We took the lead and really needed to push for another more than we did.
City slowly came into it and as usual we look quite easy to play through allowing their centre mids too much space.
The change in formation helped and the City manager did the same to match us as we had got on top.
Glorious chances towards the end and Knibbs free kick brought a decent save from their keeper.
Need to keep some perspective in that it’s a point against an established Championship club who have spent a decent amount over the summer.
Quick word for the ref who I thought was pretty decent today.9
