I fully expect us to go back to the ‘evolution’ formation 4213 but switch a few personnel - think we’ll stick with the 532 severe handbrake away from home

    If it's one or t'other it's Coventry.

Skipp hasn't done anything to displace him.

Our central midfield is completely broken, and it is amazing how we started the season expecting this setup to compete when we get overrun every week.

Coventry, no goals, assists or goal involvements - drops deep to collect the ball without pressure, only to pass it sideways to the fullbacks - to then drop deep again to get the ball back off them as there is usually no forward option. Does he carry the ball forward? no. Does he try through balls? no. Does he look to go forward once he has made his pass? - also no.

    Skipp looks no better.

Mwamba looks good but isn't there defensively (yet).

Chabolah is our best CM but can't stay fit. Looks to run with the ball - box to box, dynamic.

Ouma looks out of his depth.

I'd love to know what the plan for CM was, because it is a mess.

Still unbeaten at home and I think we've started every game in the 4231 so far. I think part of the issue has been sticking an 'attacker' in the 10 as that's the brave thing to do but not having real instructions on how to play. Unless Chalobah is ready to start I think tomorrow will be

                       Okonkwo
    Ramsay    Jones    Koumetio   Mesik
                  Cov          Skipp
    Grant           Carey          TC
                    Kelman

Carey hasn't been great but he was still getting on the ball in this formation the first few games of the season, others playing in that position since haven't even been able to get on the ball. Maybe having Kelman in front of him will unlock Carey again, we need him.

Saw this on twitter today and thought it was interesting, particularly with comments on here about how Cov never passes forward and Skipp is completely useless.

I suspect a lot of it is from the earlier games, but Cov is actually quite progressive vs most midfielders while still doing a decent job defensively. Skipp is doing nothing going forward but he's mainly in there to break up play and again is doing that fairly well.

I've not been happy with the pairing at all (and with Skipp individually in particular) so thought it was interesting to see these stats

What’s the data source? Would be interesting to break it down/look at timelines.

I think part of the problem is that most teams in the championship pack the midfield. And often have a full back instructed to come inside and add numbers in the middle of the pitch. We have been playing strikers in the 10 role who dont do the running and off the ball work of a CM.

So we have a pair of them up against at least a 3 but often a 4. They arent a great combination but they are being given an impossible job.

i wonder what would happen if we just did something that a manager like brian clough would have done - just go out there and play football - pass and move, keep it on the deck and score more than the opposition - tell players there position and thats it, let them go out and play - be very refreshing to see
