Polite request for Saturday.

edited August 2007 in General Charlton
Unable to go myself due to unforseeable circumstances.

But please would it be possible for everyone to be as United as it was in 2004.

The 1.2k Charlton there made the noise of thousands more, outsung the home end, stood all game and generally got behind the team.

None of this infighting nonsense we have seen in recent times.

  • agreed PH - i'd prefer a lot more pro-charlton than anti palace stuff to be honest
  • Agreed
  • With a bit of Jordan baiting thrown in of course.
  • Gutted to be missing it myself.

Wouldnt want to betray the letter !

Wouldnt want to betray the letter !

You're on the wind up right??

Those letters are bullshit mate, ignore it (if you're not havin a tickle that is!!)
  • Being in a group of over 2/3 is enough for our favourite ob to make a preventative arrest. Would rather give it a miss to be perfectly fair.
  • PH... eyeliner said last night that as long as you don't go in groups of more than 2&3 you will be fine... so don't travel in a group and they can't do anything apart from wrap you up in an escort once you reach the pub/ground surely
  • or just go to the game and then go home! dont go in the pub! i gotta drive so wont be goin pub!
  • As far as I know none of the group I will be with have any convictions for anything. They can't stop people travelling together to a game with intelligence to back them up.
  • then just go on your own or with another, and don't dress in casual get up and baseball cap.

  • I have it on good authority that anyone picked out by a Police 'Spotter' who had a letter will be nicked. However, like people have said if you are in a group of ten or twelve of you you are far more likely to be picked out whereas if on your own or in a pair they have no chance really of picking you out.
  • Don't you think there is something fundamentally wrong in the police being able to arrest you for simply walking down the street ?
  • but how can you be nicked for going to a football game if you're not on a ban?

yes dan. i do. i dont like football violence - think its well sad but still think this is totally wrong and a breach of our civil liberties or human rights or whatever.
  • "picked out by a Police 'Spotter'"

George Orwell really was ahead of his time. Talk about totalitarian state ............
  • I have never heard of letters being sent out to supporters of other clubs prior to a derby match.Only for england games of course!has anyone else ever heard of this before?
  • edited August 2007
The police are trying to stop trouble around a football match, and in fairness they have been generally successful at that. There is a line to be drawn of course and I have no idea whether the people getting these letters have been involved in trouble before.
  • Think the letter is intended as a warning, if you dis-obey the warning you can be nicked & think the letter says something along those lines that it can be used in court.
  • being we away from things over here in oz,i miss things
so whats this letter thats doing the rounds
  • has their fans had this letter or is it just aimed at our fans!surley they must have fans who have been nicked before and have season tickets or what ever

  • a letter has been sent out on plain paper (i.e. not headed police paper) - perhaps its come from charlton itself - to any of those who have previously been nicked or warned before for football offences that they should not attend the game. or something like that. i havent seen it myself. But dont see how an anonymous piece of A4 can stand up in court.

you sound like you're being told to feed us the party line Ketman. go back and tell them that its rubbish.
  • From what i've heard, people with no convictions or bans as well have been receiving.

It states in it, in the strongest possible terms, not to travel on Saturday:

'If you choose to ignore this advice, you will be liable to arrest if you are seen in circumstances where officers form the opinion that you are likely to participate in violence or disorder.'

so basically, they can just lift whenever they like, on their opinion. Absolutely ridiculous.
  • I think that there is a cut and paste of the letter on the Charltonloyal site. I would check but dont really want that site on my work internet account :-)
  • but you cannot send out a blank piece of paper telling someone not to do something.

If i got one I would take this letter to a human rights lawyer.
  • er i have found it. can i post afka?
  • Surely these letters must have had some address on them!or is this a way of no comebacks from the sender!but on the other hand they are telling you they have the divine right to nick you if your face does not fit
  • [cite]Posted By: Curb_It[/cite]er i have found it. can i post afka?

whisper the linky to me please.
  • They are from the Met Police these letters, not a wind up.
  • all sent out recorded delivery as well so would be quite a expensive wind up
