Chris Iwelumo believes Wolves have a great opportunity to reach the Premier League this season after completing his transfer to Molineux from Charlton Athletic.
The 29-year-old has penned a two-year deal with Mick McCarthy's side after spending only one season at The Valley.
The former Stoke City and Colchester United forward told Wolves' official website: "It's a fantastic club and I'm delighted to be here and hopefully I'll bring something to the table.
"Last year I thought Wolves were unlucky just missing out on the play-offs but I believe that if you're good enough you're old enough.
"Every player wants to play at the top level and the Premier League is the Holy Grail. I'm just really excited - this is a fantastic club with a really good chance of doing well."
i think it is a shite decision to sell him and i will retreat and duck for cover.
he played most games with an injury he was one of the only players who tried imo in many games yes he was big and was totally diffrent to what we were used too, i think he was made the scape goat by some on here he got into double figures what have we seen from Gray feck all IMO (but he has had personal problems), so what he is paid a great deal of money to deliver goals atleast big chris got ten without them how close to the bottom 3 would we have been.
i dont rate Varney as a striker too soft imo so gray and varney doesnt inspire me with goals the last player to deserve to feck off was big chris 400k dosent eat into any debt this club may have
good luck to the big lad he deserved better from us than that
Best of luck to him. Always gave his all and scored some vital goals at the start. Like all the forwards last season suffered due to a large number of strikers at the club with Pardew too willing to change on a regular basis.
Parky signed him for Colchester, and Parky got him signed for Charlton.
Back in the heady days earlier last season when we were riding high and thought we could at least make the play offs, Parky attended a Fans night somewhere and let it slip that he didn't think Big Chris could cope with the Prem.
Well, Parky was the one man in the club who knew all about Big Chris, so I guess we have to respect his judgement.
But, no doubt, Big Chris could still have done a job in the Championship. Wolves certainly think so.
He would have been useful to have around if he'd stayed.

Don't know if anyone read Iwelumo's departing comments but this stuck out to me:
"Described as an 'educated footballer and a gentleman' by his former boss Pardew, who indicated his decision to allow Iwelumo to leave was prompted by a desire to pursue a different direction this season
Personally, I am disappointed to see Big Chris go.
It wasn't just about aerial ability, he scored a couple of cracking goals on the deck (poss Sheff Wed at home, but I'm tired so could be wrong!).
I really think he struggled in not having a regular partner up front, could not have been easy to adapt to Pardew's ever changing tactics.
Never the most gifted, but what is the one thing we as fans ask for first and foremost? 100% effort. And he was never lacking in that. Fair play to the bloke and good luck I say.
I maybe in the minority on here but I really liked him. I recognise that he was of limited ability but he was worth signing in my view and he'll do a job for Wolves as well. He is a big hearted trier who never gave less than 100%. I feel those critics of him overlook the fact that he wasn't necessarily going to be a first choice pick last season. Unfortunately Varney got injured pre-season, Tody was barely fit at the start and then got injured, McLeod struggled, and Dickson was playing elsewhere. With Bonking Bent taking the road to Wigan Pier, that left Big Chris to shoulder much of the work upto the Jan transfer window. He scored some goals which made him undroppable for a while and with Reidy fashioning the chances, the team achieved some decent results (with a few shockers). Reidy got injured and then was sold and Big Chris performances became less and less effective. I still would have been prepared to keep him.
Comments
Wolves local press are reporting around £400k.
Good luck Chris, great attitude but like Paddy not the man to take us forward.

EDIT - AFKA's been searching, too!
The vicitim of 2nd half of the season free fall from the whole team. BUT not good enough for the level we want to be at.
good luck chris
Any guesses at the transfer fee?
Good luck Chris.

Who's next for the chop?

Pretty sure he said something similar when he signed for us.

I think players have an identikit PR to read out from...

Agreed.
Wolves' ForumWolves fans seem very undecided on the matter....

Total football, here we come!

Just don't score any vital goals against us!
