Here's the OS spluttering into life:

    Shelvey in for Swansea

Man of the moment Jonjo Shelvey returns to the starting line-up for Charlton's trip to Swansea City.

The midfielder, who signed his first professional contract with the club on Friday, is the only change for the club's first ever visit to Swansea City for a quarter of a century.

The Addicks make their debut at the sparkling Liberty Stadium with Shelvey replacing Tresor Kandol and operating just behind Chris Dickson in the final third.

Kandol is absent due to a family issue, while Lloyd Sam is unwell as Phil Parkinson's side go in search of a first league double of the season.

Rob Elliot continues between the posts for the visitors with Graeme Murty and Kelly Youga occupying the full-back berths.

Skipper Mark Hudson partners Darren Ward in the centre of defence while the Shelvey supplements a midfield unit of Tom Soares, Therry Racon, Matt Spring and Nicky Bailey.

Dickson, still searching for his first league goal in Charlton colours, leads the line.

There is a return on the bench for midfielder Darren Ambrose and he is joined in reserve by keeper Darren Randolph, Matt Holland, Deon Burton and Svetoslav Todorov.

The hosts, whose FA Cup dreams were ended by Fulham in midweek, could rise as high as fourth this afternoon with a win.

Top scorer Jason Scotland and playmaker Jordi Gomez are just two players for the visitors to keep an eye on, and the Addicks will be aware at the Swans' 'total football' that has been complemented throughout the season.

Home skipper Gary Monk, sent off at The Valley on the opening day of the season, is back in the centre of defence.

Charlton: Elliot; Murty, Youga, Hudson, Ward; Soares, Spring, Racon, Bailey, Shelvey; Dickson.

Subs: Randolph, Holland, Ambrose, Todorov, Burton.

Swansea: de Vries; Rangel, Tate, Williams, Monk; Dyer, Gomez, Britton, Bauza, Gower; Scotland.

Subs: Serran, Butler, MacDonald, Pratley, Orlandi.

    Referee: K Stroud

Sounds like some rubbish music being played at Swansea
  • Both teams playing 4-5-1...
  • will this be our first double of the season if we win?

I know that's probably a stupid question, just wondering...
  • Now Shelvey's in I want a hat-trick from him ;)

More like 4-4-1-1 in our case with Shelvey in the hole just behind Dicko, BFR

We struggled with their 4-5-1 first game of the season at times (even though we won), sensible thing to do and anyway it'll become 4-4-2 the way Jonjo will support Dickson.

Would have liked to have Sam on the bench to bring on, in the Norwich cup game at home Jonjo was spreading the ball wide to Sam and Bouazza very well, we won't get that with Bailey on the wing, maybe a bit with Soares.

Edit: Just seen that Sam is unwell, and Kandol has a family issue. That explains them being left out completely.
