[cite]Posted By: Saga Lout[/cite]Why is it that cheating, diving, play-acting, simulation and overreacting is allowed in the game of football? You don't get it in other sports to anything like the same degree. What happened to the campaign to respect the referee?
Just be thankful we don't have blatant match fixing and people swallowing fake blood capsules in our sport!
How often do we moan about players moving the ball while taking throws or free kicks? Players are always trying to seal a few yards after the ref has blown etc For once a ref has put his foot down, and said enough is enough, and let them play on. Good luck to him I say!
I watched this incident today and personally I don't think the referee has done anything wrong.
He told the player to move the ball back to the right position, which he did, the player then played the ball.
Is it the referees fault that a player is an idiot and it cost his team a goal?
Had the ref blown his whistle? I didn't think he had.
Most bizarre goal since the beach ball goal - and that was Liverpool and Sunderland too. Luck evening itself out? No, not really, but imagine if one side had got the benefit of both of those decisions.
It is clear from Attwell's move to blow his whistle two or three times that he didn't know what had happened. He needs direction from the linesman as he had turned his back on the freekick. Clearly it should have brought back, but if he doesn't see what happened what can he do?.
He still managed to get a number of big decisions wrong. Sunderland should have had another penalty when Reina flattened Wellbeck and Gerrard should have been sent off for the elbow. The Gerrard decision was crazy, if he sees what Gerrard did it is red, yellow card was a cop out.

That's true enough. Thought Steve Bruce was remarkably restrained in his interview afterwards. In actual fact, the way things were going against them I guess he was just happy that they were given at least one of the two stonewall penalty decisions.
When a player is about to take a throw but then another player with possibly a longer throw runs over to take it instead, most of the time the original player holding the ball will throw it under arm so the second player can take it. Will refs start giving fail throws. It's common sense that the refs need to start using
Liverpool wouldn't even have protested if the goal had been chalked off. Turner was a bit stupid but he wouldn't have underhit it that badly if he was taking the freekick. We don't know what the linesman said but between them they cocked it up.

I was more concerned as to why he didn't send Gerrard off for his assault.

I can't see how they've backed him on the Milijas red card.
I shudder to think what the game will be in another five years time? May as well make it a non-contact sport.
He is constantly in the news as inept, and I see that this thread began in March 2009 - no smoke without fire!!
We communicate with the neighbours by smoke signals.
Lol ! With great difficulty now that duvets have replaced blankets !
