Messi winning the World Cup confirms GOAT status, never want to hear anyone say Ronaldo is better again
First player to score in every knockout game of a World Cup as well
Make that 2 Fifa World Cup Golden Balls
The first man to do so.
The first one was the worst decision ever
shh, narratives remember?
Rich coming from someone who tried to legitimately push a narrative that tonight’s game was fixed after about 30 minutes.
France national team had a huge virus outbreak in their camp in the last week. The fact Argentina couldn't beat them in 120 minutes is pretty funny, they did their best to give it away in the end.

Admit you don’t like football or hearing of anybody else trying to enjoy it - would save a lot of time.

Can only beat what's in front of you.
I very much doubt Argentina will give a sh*t, while they get pissed and pass the World Cup around for photos etc

True but the hope is that you have the best nations playing at their peak.
A winter World Cup meaning that multiple top stars miss out through injury, and the final played under a cloud of an illness isn't my idea of the peak of football.
Some people like Messi so don't care either way. Good for them.

Why would there more injuries now than for a summer World Cup ? A lot of teams would have had various bugs going around during the tournament. That’s what happens when you are staying in close proximity to each other

Midway through a season rather than afterwards with a month before the tournament to recover and join National camps?
First game in 2018 - 14th June (last game 13th May in the Premier League)
First game in 2022 - 20th November (last game 13th November in the Premier League)
Do you not see the difference?
Look at the French squad only with no Benzema, Pogba, Kante, Hernandez, Kimpembe, Nkunku and others.
Personally, I think that Kevin de Bruyner is the greatest player in the world at the moment. Best player in the world accolades are 99% of the time given out to strikers/prolific goal scorers and rarely to anyone else. True, De Bruyner had an inexplicably dreadful and anonymous World Cup…..having said that, Belgium were surprisingly very very poor, in fact a side whom many had expected a much better showing from. Just my view of course and I can understand many of you disagreeing with my opinion…..unfortunately he doesn’t fit the ethos of a worlds greatest player.
It’s now, objectively, completelyundoubted that it’s Messi. People claiming that it’s Maradona even though they really only saw about ten hours of him actually playing or, even weirder, Pele who could have gone four years without Europeans seeing him play. Messi’s every kick in his career was broadcast worldwide. We saw all of it - we saw how it started, we saw the almost unbelievable things that happened at Barcelona, we saw the highs and the lows for Argentina until that Copa America win. Then we all saw him orchestrate a World Cup win, almost unimaginable.
You can pretend that any of you saw those things for Pele or Maradona, but I’m very, very confident it’s not true.

Messi is, now, the greatest of all time.
Couldn’t have put it better.
A lot of accounts of Maradona and Pele is based 95% on the opinions and takes of others and retrospective analysis prone to ad-hoc application of narrative.
With Messi it was a case where he was widely regarded as the greatest already. He just needed this tournament to be able to put to bed the lazy argument that you can’t be the greatest if you don’t have a World Cup. And now it just so happens that he has it, off the back of an all-time classic of a match, and has pissed all over the debate.

Agree, but Maradona, Pelé, Cruyff and other greats of yesteryear did not have YouTube, sports science, etc to prepare them. After this afternoon, I have bowed to my boys' demand that I accept Messi is the GOAT, but difficult to compare across generations. Btw: loved your write ups from Qatar. Thank you 👏

Very apt that Messi wins the final in such style.
Messi more recently

Its worse than some of the stuff I see from the immature twats on twitter that say Ratio or Penaldo or Pessi every other tweet

Sure they'd be world class, but better than Messi and Ronaldo?
They'd be alongside Neymar, Benzema & Henry etc
