Keep an eye on the Toronto, made a lot of big purchases/trades over the winter, a lot of bookies here making them more of a favourite than the aging Yankees in the AL East. However, the AL East is without doubt the toughest division, with the Red Sox, ever improving Baltimore Orioles and my boys, the always hard to play Tampa Bay Rays.
I agree re: Blue Jays. Think this could be the most wide open AL East for a long time.
35/1
p.s. I put a tenner on the Rays back in 2008 at 200/1 - they got to the World Series, and covered my bet...
The AL East is a brutal division. The Red Sox came bottom last season but go into this year with a new manager, new coaching set up & a selection of new players. It should be a very open league ths year & I expect the Red Sox to manage 3rd out of 5. This may depend on David Ortiz regaining fitness sooner rather than later though.
Well, it's up and running again. Houston Astros win the first game of the season 8-2 at the Texas Rangers. Top of the bill for today is of course the New York Yankees v Boston Red Sox which also happens to be live on ESPN America at 6.00 this evening. Boston go in to the season as rank outsiders for a change - the harsh reality of playing in the notoriously tough AL East I suppose, but after last year's disaster under Bobby Valentine which followed hot on the tail of the extraordinary end of season collapse of 2011, there's an atmosphere amongst the Red Sox Nation that the club is on the long road back under new manager, former Bosox pitching coach John Farrell. Club legend Dustin Pedroia reckons their target this year, like every year, is to win the World Series, and rightly so, but no realistic Red Sox fan can genuinely expect such a miracle in 2013. A more solid season than last year with the hope of flirting with the Wildcard spot would be seen as a success. Surprisingly, the Yanks are also unlikely to be up at the top this year either. It's pretty much universally accepted that theToronto Blue Jays are looking the strongest team in the AL East and that it will take an implosion in Toronto or an excellent season in Baltimore, Tampa Bay, Boston or New York for anyone else to win this tough division. Both teams have injuries going into this opener with Boston missing Big Papi and new signing Stephen Drew, while the Yanks are without Derek Jeter, ARod, and Curtis Granderson. I reckon this'll be a close one, but unfortunately I think the Yanks will nick it, probably in extra innings.
As for who's going to win the Big One, my money's on the Dodgers.
It's my third year as a MLB TV customer great service. Unfortunately I've been unable to follow Spring Training due to studying, but games will be running on my tv through the ps3 the next ~7 months!
Sports Illustrated has it as a Washington v Tampa Bay World Series, with Washington winning it. As a Rays fan I'll take getting to the World Series! But not the losing part..

Watching Napoli swinging and missing.......bring's back some good memories eh H?
LOL
Red Sox giving CC a hard time.
Are Boston good or Yankees poor?
The Red Sox and the Yanks are both distinctly average this season IMO. TBH, I was impressed with the Sox showing today - early days, but Farrell seems to have brought some positivity and belief back. Loved the debut performance of Bradley Jr. He's definitely one to watch for the future. The Yanks were poor today. As I said before, they were missing some big game players (Jeter, ARod, Granderson and, I forgot earlier, Teixera) so they're better than today's performance suggests, but they're getting old and not the force they once were.

I hope you're right but as a long suffering Dodgers fan I am far from confident. We are in a tough looking division with the Giants & D'Backs amongst others.

Oh well, still 161 games to go.
Come on the champions!
