Congrats San Fran - well deserved. Incredible - the dismal record of teams that swept to win their pennant when facing a team that went 7. On that basis I think the Giants owe it all to the Cards for taking them the distance....;o)
Question for Peanuts..... Because of the Designated Hitter rule in the AL, are there proven facts that show there are more hits/runs in the AL over the NL because of the Pitcher not hitting?
Siv - It's taken me a few years to get into it but really like it now. Of course it helps having sons who love it. :-) It also helps having a local team who are so good at the moment.

I haven't studied the stats but MLB.com has a user-friendly stats section that permits a fair amount of analysis. It is said that the DH has led to the AL, ON AVERAGE, scoring more runs per game, having higher batting averages and hitting more home runs than the NL and that would seem logical. Only my gut-feeling but, for a number of years (until the last few), the AL was considered the stronger league with (among other things) appreciably better pitchers than the NL (the AL won every All-Star game from 1997-2009 bar one "tie"). Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised if, during those years, as far as the comparative batting stats are concerned, the benefits of the DH were to some extent countered by better pitching. I'll stick to Aintree though if you don't mind ;o)
But c'mon... bet it's not as good as 98 or Carlisle
Ben must be over the moon right now
Enjoy that parade!!!
Of course, no comparison to Charlton. It goes without saying. And, I'm only a Giants fair weather supporter really. Enjoyable being on the bandwagon tho. :-)
Yes, 2 of my sons have been down there since before 8 this morning.
The parade is actually starting right outside the building that I work in at the end of Market Street near the Embarcadero and Ferry Building. I'm strolling down there in a minute. Hopefully It'll be a great view.
It's about to start again. If you haven't already pick a team and get into the world's second best sport.
"The 2013 World Series odds have already been released, and the Detroit Tigers are 6-to-1 favorites to win the title, according to Bovada.
The Tigers are coming off of a sweep at the hands of the San Francisco Giants in this year's version of the Fall Classic, but oddsmakers like their chances for next year, with Miguel Cabrera, Justin Verlander, Prince Fielder and most of the remainder of the team's core set to return in 2013. The New York Yankees, who were overmatched by the Tigers in the ALCS but have deep pockets and an equally deep desire to win, are second in the league with 7-to-1 odds.
The World Series-champion Giants are just behind with 10-to-1 odds, while the Texas Rangers, Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Angels each hold 12-to-1 odds. Here is the full list:
The odds on the Big Red Machine look pretty good given how they performed in the regular season. Perhaps our own Big Red Machine will start to motor next season as well.
Keep an eye on the Toronto, made a lot of big purchases/trades over the winter, a lot of bookies here making them more of a favourite than the aging Yankees in the AL East. However, the AL East is without doubt the toughest division, with the Red Sox, ever improving Baltimore Orioles and my boys, the always hard to play Tampa Bay Rays.
Red Sox for me. I feel like I have gone back in time 20 years. The buzz of two WS in 4 years has gone.
Incidentally, can someone settle a debate I am having on the Angels.
I always call them Anaheim Angels (I spend lots of time in OC and seperate them from LA and the Dodgers in my eyes)
Used to be called California Angels
But here called the LA Angels (even though Anaheim is 45/60 mins outside of LA)
What are they?!
Wiki : In 2005, new owner Arturo Moreno added "Los Angeles" to the team's name in order to better tap into the team's history and appeal to more Los Angeles fans as in the team's past. He also stated that as Los Angeles is the second largest market in the U.S., its addition would benefit the team greatly. In compliance with the terms of its lease with the city of Anaheim, which required "Anaheim" be a part of the team's name, the team was renamed the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Hotly disputed when initially announced, the change was eventually upheld in court and the city finally dropped its four-year legal battle in 2009.
Watch the Cubs make a mockery of those odds, they will make massive improvements this year and will win the whole thing within 3 years (you heard it here first).

I agree re: Blue Jays. Think this could be the most wide open AL East for a long time.

Fantastic achievement for the Giants and another no show in a WS from Detriot (see 2006)

Was watching from afar with a modicum of interest

I would post a photo but I don't know how to do it.

Think the Angels will win it this year.
