First time I've seen it.Yes I suppose if you're a Charlton supporter from the middle 90's you would despair.Still we have to look forward. We went through the revolving door of Sky Football money and what is our future now?We need patience, continuity and solid foundations built on our Academy players. The important thing now is to keep our shape and infrastructure with a much smaller and manageable budget. The football set up now is unsustainable for too many clubs.Something's got to give very soon.As a club we have to be ready for an eventual meltdown.
Thanks Curb It I enjoyed watching.
[cite]Posted By: Curb_It[/cite]I just watched the Turning the Tables documentary as i missed it first time round as found the link last week.
Rather surprisingly for me, i welled up watching the highlights of the West Ham 4-4 game plus all the other bits in the programme that shows how far we have really fallen.
What a terrible mess we are in. I feel very flat now.
Agreed, it's not nice is it ..... i mean i can't see myself falling in love with chris solly like i did with chris powell , in a bromance sort of way mind you
It really takes me back. I've only been able to go to Charlton since the 97/98 season, and I've had a season ticket for the last 5 seasons, so I've only really known Charlton as a Premiership club, so obviously those that have been going for longer (obviously as they're older than me) have seen everything, including the development from the derelict Valley to the 27,111 seater stadium we have today. It really puts things into perspective at how far we've fallen, but also shows us what we have compared to other teams in this division, showing why we NEED to get promoted. However as we have the facilities to attract the best players for this league and the fact we are Charlton puts the pressure on us more, something other sides don't have and why they probably go into games more relaxed and are obviously doing better than us now. In my opinion of course. The fact that when this was made Plymouth had just had a major squad overhaul (4 or 5 from the previous season I think was stated in the documentary) is something we can relate to this season.
I''m pleased to say that I've seen us at the top level. I'd love to see us back there. Look at Man City...they had two quick relegations...I know they bounced back straight away, but it can be done. If it doesn't happen then fair enough, but as long as we can keep the club going etc I think that is more important imo. And looking at how Plymouth were back then to how they are now shows what can be done with patience, as we have shown. We obviously have the facilities already, it's just the playing side that needs to get back to where we were.
As was said in the documentary stability is key. Curbs was here for 15 years and it took us 10 of those years to get us to where we were just a few years ago. We need to give things time, give Parky time, and know it's not going to happen overnight. We nearly lost the club 20 years ago, so where we are now is a stark comparison. However where we are now is a stark comparison to where we were 5 years ago. It is possible, we've just got to take it one step at a time. It's a shame that money is key nowadays.
