PX'd it for a blue VW Golf PCD579X . Which ended up getting side swiped by a Capri in Lovel Ave in welling. Got it repaired but it never felt the same. Never saw the mini again, but always remember seeing the golf outside my house some years later. Full of Charlton stickers. Who knows it could have been owned by one of you!
Know nothing about motors, but it had a lovely BIG backseat for those country lanes round Pratts Bottom & Chelsfield !!
A few years later on the motorway on route to Oxford v Charlton, about 50 miles outside London, it goes bombing past us in the outside lane doing about 80mph.
Never forget that, unbelieveable, it couldn't do more than 65mph downhill previously.
Sold it and then pulled up behind it at some traffic lights in East Dulwich about 3 years later which amazed me !!
When we got to the ferry port he was parked a few cars up. I spoke to him and what he was actually trying to say was that he owned my car back in the early 70's.
I know, I know.............
I'm working from a PC at the mo, when my Mac is up and running I will post some.
Have you seen that great big thing parked in Kings Highway just by Wickes? looks like some sort of armoured personel carrier.
The bloke that does my parent's alarm lives in a big place in Sheppey and has a big collection of old military vehicles. Tanks, jeeps, ambulances, he's even got an old wartime NAFFI van (he's a bit odd!)
It must be rough round your way, mines just got a pushbike
Why do old willys get a mention on a car thread ??? :o)
2nd car which was a White MK1 Escort with a Red Mexico stripe down the side but the engine blew so got my
3rd car which was a more modern red Mini with a white A team style stripe over the roof and down to the front arches etc
and so it went on
Brilliant
Would be worth a fortune if you still had it now!
Mark II Cortina followed when I'd paid off the Morris. Lovely motor that, walnut dash and Lotus engine with twin choke weber carb. Blew it up on the M20 on the way to watch Charlton doing 110mph!
Think this worked! T`his was my total baby, limited edition with the green half leather interior and green carpets, power steering, and amazing suction sunroof!! Was a brilliant motor, mental too, i gave mine to sanspeed and the made it
170 bhp with full stainless exhaust and manifold, uprated cams, polished head, chip, filter and some wierd power boost valve thingy, the thing was mental but always reliable, took it to Santa pod and it ran a 15.2sec which i was over the moon with really good time that!! Sold it for more than i bought it for after owning for 3 years, and only to buy a brand spanking new Mini Cooper S (Hence really gay user name here lol) which was also a cracking motor.
Ah the memories!! I know there are some other 1.9 owners here (charlton dan i am sure) but they make me purr everytime i see a mint one.
Only thing it was a nightmare at was long trips on the motorway......Required the stereo to be turned up full (not a massive issue for a 19 yr old) and gave you a numb arse for the rest of the day (not in that way Carter).
Was v sad when I sold it on.
Bought another one about 6yrs ago, was in a right state but engine seemed pretty sound, with the plan to do it up. Head gakget then gave up the ghost and was going to be £1500 to sort it out so took a loss on it and got rid.
I've had my 69 roadster for about 12 years. Cracking little car, only ever let me down once. My wife hates it, just sees it as on old car with no roof that messes her hair up (not a problem I have to deal with!)
Putting on my anorak, if it's a 76 car, then it won't have had chrome bumpers originally. It is possible to change the rubber ones over but unless it's been done properly they can sit at an angle and look cr*p.
