  • I saw my old Peugeot 205 1.9GTi (1991) down Dover about three years after I sold it. Limited edition Dark metallic Sorrento Green, Still miss it now that car for it's time was a cracker.
  • A second hand Ford Anglia, bought from dealer in Crayford for £175 in 1967. Just tell me, somebody, where have all those f*****g years gone. Happy, happy days.
  • V reg mini 850cc. Bright yellow, installed the biggest MF soundsystem I could afford. Really helped it go faster!

PX'd it for a blue VW Golf PCD579X . Which ended up getting side swiped by a Capri in Lovel Ave in welling. Got it repaired but it never felt the same. Never saw the mini again, but always remember seeing the golf outside my house some years later. Full of Charlton stickers. Who knows it could have been owned by one of you!
  • I had a Ford Corsar (sp ?).
Know nothing about motors, but it had a lovely BIG backseat for those country lanes round Pratts Bottom & Chelsfield !!
  • Back in the early 70's my dad had a Standard 10 (I think), which was from the 1950's. Regularily breaking down, had to cross everything if we were going up a steep hill, a total embarassment to a teenager. He sold it eventually.

A few years later on the motorway on route to Oxford v Charlton, about 50 miles outside London, it goes bombing past us in the outside lane doing about 80mph.
Never forget that, unbelieveable, it couldn't do more than 65mph downhill previously.
  • Mark III Courtina.
  • 1971 HC Vauxhall Viva KYE 242K : the only brand new car I've ever bought: same year as we got married and the kids were brought up with it. Took us round England and Scotland on holidays, with several trips to Oggy Land. Got through God knows how many clutches, at least three gearboxes, 4 cylinder heads and three recon. engines. Went to countless Charlton games but in the end the rust finally won and not even my mate with his 'selective' MoTs could pass her in the end., Ended up in that great scrap heap in the sky, well more Dorking West sidings really. Many happy memories.
  • Austin Maxi 1500, a cheap plastic sofa on wheels. Broke down on Pepper Hill going to watch Charlton. Crushaed by parents whilst away in the Southern hemisphere; mind you it hadn't moved in a year and a half.
  • Green 1978 Audi 100 with tastefull beige roof cover that had about 150K miles on it when I got it. It wallowed round corners and burned as much oil as it did petrol but lasted well for me.

Sold it and then pulled up behind it at some traffic lights in East Dulwich about 3 years later which amazed me !!
  • I was on the way to Le Mans a couple of years ago and a guy overtook me, taking photos of my car as he passed, saying "I used to have one of those"

When we got to the ferry port he was parked a few cars up. I spoke to him and what he was actually trying to say was that he owned my car back in the early 70's.

  • Ive got mine...I love Military Vehicles, The old Land Rovers, Willys Jeeps etc. Got a Series 3 Land Rover Lightweight a year ago, its nearly 40 years old, I have all the military history, they use to chuck 'em out of planes on parachutes, mine was with the British Airborne Div. I've completely renovated it and we drove it to Normandy for the 65 year D Day celebration. Its sad but I can just sit and look at it...I call it 'Moto Lust'.

Mine was a 1965 Wolseley Hornet £165 in 1978, the posh mini with a boot and leather seats....Mine bit the dust as somebody wrote me off outside Woolwich covered in market, but Ive been having a look lately to see if I can find a reasonable one to buy.....my second car Ive been trying to track down through Mini Forums...it was an Austin Seven...in fact one of the first Minis to come off the production line in 1959 9805PO was the reg number....would love to know if she still exists, but I doubt it.
  • @bibble: that's interesting, do you have any pics you can post?

The bloke that does my parent's alarm lives in a big place in Sheppey and has a big collection of old military vehicles. Tanks, jeeps, ambulances, he's even got an old wartime NAFFI van (he's a bit odd!)

  • '69 Bay window VW camper - put me in so much debt that they still piss me off even now.

Why do old willys get a mention on a car thread ??? :o)
  • 1st car was a Pre Reg British racing Green Mini - external hinges etc and immaculate 869 FGY. My Grandpa bought it for me but it was far too classy for me so I sold it and bought my

2nd car which was a White MK1 Escort with a Red Mexico stripe down the side but the engine blew so got my

3rd car which was a more modern red Mini with a white A team style stripe over the roof and down to the front arches etc

    and so it went on

    Brilliant

Would be worth a fortune if you still had it now!
  • A Navy Blue Morris 1100. Cost me £110 in 1976, I only had it 3 weeks before wrapping it round a lamp post.
Mark II Cortina followed when I'd paid off the Morris. Lovely motor that, walnut dash and Lotus engine with twin choke weber carb. Blew it up on the M20 on the way to watch Charlton doing 110mph!
  • Early 1970's a group of city workers used to tour the pubs in northwest Kent on a Friday-night, this of course after a hard week's work. We all shared our same respect for the same make of car. When you are talking British sports cars, I will hear nothing bad said about the MGB GT. One of us even had a 3.5 Rover engine under the bonnet. Ex-police motorway car. The good old days! In my first week of owning the MGB GT, I took it up to Inverness in Scotland. On the way back, picked up a couple of East-German hitch hikers. One of which had a skeleton sheeps' head. The jump seat of that MG is rather small and the said hitch hiker, was very relieved when we hit Edinburgh.
  • Funny you should mention that LC, there's an MGB (1976) going for £5995 down our way.: hard & soft tops, good service history, 82,000 miles, chrome bumpers (but alloys rather than spokes), Nice and clean with just a little rust bubbling near the windscreen. Thinking of talking to the man but can't see the wife going for it!

    1.9 GTI

Think this worked! T`his was my total baby, limited edition with the green half leather interior and green carpets, power steering, and amazing suction sunroof!! Was a brilliant motor, mental too, i gave mine to sanspeed and the made it
170 bhp with full stainless exhaust and manifold, uprated cams, polished head, chip, filter and some wierd power boost valve thingy, the thing was mental but always reliable, took it to Santa pod and it ran a 15.2sec which i was over the moon with really good time that!! Sold it for more than i bought it for after owning for 3 years, and only to buy a brand spanking new Mini Cooper S (Hence really gay user name here lol) which was also a cracking motor.

Ah the memories!! I know there are some other 1.9 owners here (charlton dan i am sure) but they make me purr everytime i see a mint one.
  • Yep. Has a white 1.9 GTi. Great car! Stupidly quick when you wanted it to be but also great in traffic.

Only thing it was a nightmare at was long trips on the motorway......Required the stereo to be turned up full (not a massive issue for a 19 yr old) and gave you a numb arse for the rest of the day (not in that way Carter).

Was v sad when I sold it on.

Bought another one about 6yrs ago, was in a right state but engine seemed pretty sound, with the plan to do it up. Head gakget then gave up the ghost and was going to be £1500 to sort it out so took a loss on it and got rid.

I've had my 69 roadster for about 12 years. Cracking little car, only ever let me down once. My wife hates it, just sees it as on old car with no roof that messes her hair up (not a problem I have to deal with!)

Putting on my anorak, if it's a 76 car, then it won't have had chrome bumpers originally. It is possible to change the rubber ones over but unless it's been done properly they can sit at an angle and look cr*p.
