Lead 112 now. This game is running away from us. With the walking wicket Northeast in the side I wouldn't want to chase much more than 150 in a fourth innings.
What the hell have you got against the bloke? Its just constant digs from you against Sam, when lets be honest many others have not performed for Kent either this season.
Sam has had a terrible season so far and got rightly dropped. He went away and scored 3 hundreds and a 93 in 4 innings so has arguably played himself back into the side. Give the bloke a break and lets hope those runs in the seconds can see him find the talent he undoubtedly has.
Nothing against Sam at all.
I do however question the favourable treatment he has received and continues to receive from the Kent selectors.
He had a poor season last year too yet continued to play whereas Bell - Drummond and Blake were in and out of the side.
Blake I can understand as he has shown over a few seasons now that he isn't really up to it in the 4 day game. D B-D's confidence was badly shaken by his treatment though thankfully he has recovered and has performed well this season. Relative to the others anyway.
This time it's Fabian Cowdrey who was given just two matches as opposed to the almost half a season Sam received.
Charlie Shreck has a better batting average than Sam this season! That tells its own story in my book.
A real vice captain's innings from Sam Northeast which, given his lack of form, displayed real character and gained his team a victory they looked to have thrown away. He can be proud of that. An innings worth more than the 112 not out shown in the scorebook.
I have been critical of Sam, or more precisely the excess of opportunites he has had relative to others, but he deserves fulsome praise for his efforts today and as a Kent supporter I'm at the front of the queue taking my hat off to him.
The fact that only 13 of our squad have played more than two matches this season rather sums up our financial plight and inability at times to drop/rest those out of form.
Ryan Davies, still only 17 and a probable rival to Sam Billings place in seasons to come, scored 80 off 99 balls which, in the context of the total, is some innings.
In reply Surrey 36-3 with Joseph two wickets and Haggett taking the other one.

Not even Kent can lose this one - just to prove I'm no Fanny ;-)
Great knock from Northeast...lets hope the floodgates open for him now.

Made sure I didn't look on here while the match was on just in case I jinxed it as usual.
Apart from Blakey with the bat we were poor - but our bowling & catching/fielding in general was superb.
Well done the" young guns "of Kent !( And that great over from Jordan for 24 that def helped)
Now for Essex at Colchester tomorrow....Shame it coincides with Welling.
Good day all round for Charlton and Kent fans.
Might even have another glass of err, Ribena !
Stuart Meaker already has a 5 for.
