Anyone else watch this? Best program on TV for me - just finished watching season 4 (saved it all for one week) - OMFG the ending is the best ending to a TV series I've ever seen)
Best show on TV along with shameless, however I think this series (was on FX ages ago) ending wasn't as good as the last couple. When I was staying in the states saw the start of the next series, that looks so good. The guy who was "Dick" in 3rd Rock from the sun is the main villan (called "trinity") and it looks like the best series yet. Can't wait !!!
Thought it was an excellent conceit at first. But when it became obvious on the age old Cain and Able struggle it ended any of the interesting features for me. Having said that it's still great rip roaring TV better than most and when I finally get round to seeing the third and fourth series it'll be fun TV for the winter.
Really looking forward to the third series of Underbelly and Bored to Death.

I really liked the first series, but thought it got steadily dafter after that. The last one I bothered to watch was where he was mates with the prosecutor fella, which series was that?
It's a bit of decent entertainment, but it's not even in the same league as the Wire for me. I'm on my third watch and still seeing new stuff
I never even saw the second. I thought it was a true story, so do they go for fiction after the first one?
Second's a prequel mainly set around the 70's and 80's of Bob Trimbole and Terry Clarke. They were a bit more successful than the majority of the good 'ole Aussie crims in the first. There's a few connections in the Kane brothers, one of their daughters was married to Jason Moran, but it's more focused on burgeoning international organised crime. Although they do deal with the Great bookie robbery and Chuck Bennett who was a bit more intelligent than most of the Painter & Decorator affiliates.
Third is indetween the two eras, dealing with brothels/casinos and the end of the monumentally corrupt departments in the Sydney police force. Shame as they don't seem to be dealing with the Russel Street bombings or the Walsh street shootings, which are kind of a prescursor and inbetween series 2 & 3.
[cite]Posted By: Radzinsky[/cite]it's average at best compared to the wire - best tv show ever written for me
I think it's pretty unfair to compare anything to The Wire. Ok so Dexter isn't a devastating critique of the failings of modern society, but it is a smart and brilliantly written show. It could have been 'ooo! Awesome! He kills bad people!' but it's more about the deeper and far more interesting question of how a psychopath can fake a normal life, and how that always unravels.
Agree with others about the end of season 4! I think the writers realised it was all getting a bit too safe, and at times in season 4 Dexter seemed to be about 70% family man, 20% blood spatter analyst and only 10% serial killer. But they've rammed home that his parallel lives can't exist together without major consequences.

Agreed. This thread made me tear through the last three episodes of the season last night and the sentiment above is exactly what I was telling the missus this morning. She has refused to watch the show since the second season because she liked the characters, but was troubled that there were no real consequences for the central conceit of the show on the main characters.
But no it wasn't. I read somewhere that John Lithgow confirmed in an interview that it's exactly as it appeared. And it was a coincidence
So it wasn't Quinn, but I think he's definitely the new Doakes. Dexter's needed someone to keep tabs on him for a while now, so he doesn't just breeze around killing people. The main tension of the first couple of seasons was that Doakes sensed something wrong about Dexter and I'd welcome something like that returning.
[cite]Posted By: cafcpolo[/cite]**SPOILER - DON'T READ BELOW IF YOU AINT SEEN IT YET**
Was it Trinity that got Rita? Didn't see any sign of a struggle, no marks on him when Dexter had him?
All a bit of a co-incidence that Harrison was in a pool of blood just like Dex was. How did Trinity know? How did he finally get their address?
I reckon it was Quinn, he's the new Doakes!
Yeah - watch it again - just before he kills Trinity, in a speech that tells him they're nothing alike, he tells Trinity he has a family - Lithgow raises his eyebrows and gives a small laugh (that's when I started to twig what the ending was going to be)
Finally watched it all now, and I have to admit to being shocked. I agree with Leroy and think that Trinity wass responsible, and that the similarity between Harrison and Dexter was coincidental.
Although I enjoyed the series, there were times when it did seem to drag, and Dexters life did seem to be becoming too settled. It will be interesting to see in the next series how he copes as a single parent.
Have just finished all four seasons (within a month!!!)after reading this thread I thought I'd give it a go.
Well, yes, it is up there with Sopranos for me. In parts I literally laughed out loud, cant believe the Americans get the humour in Dexter. Season 4 was amazing, IMO shortly followed by Season 1
Have had to order the books for me hols to fill the void, cant wait.
Now have Fringe, Dollhouse, Chuck, Reaper, to start.

Going to give Fringe a go when Lost ends. IMO, don't bother with Dollhouse, it's sh*te (apart from Eliza Dushku - who is one of the sexiest women I've ever seen) and is REALLY sh*te from about episode 5 in when the novelty wears off. Chuck I thought was funny occasionally, but tried too hard. Reaper is pants all round.
The books are very different from the series. Enjoyable - but in a completely different way - and not as good as the series anyway. Not often a TV series is better than the printed material it's adapted from!
Agree wholeheardy with SatanClaus - Breaking Bad is very good. Bryan Cranston (Watley!) is awesome, and the writiing is very good in the main (though ridiculous on occasion).
Yeah have watched about 4 episodes of Chuck and it is just easy watching, no brain power invloved. Fringe, I watched the first episode and it looks good and have heard good reports. Have the first season of the wire but I know everybody cannot be wrong and I am sure when my head gets a spare week just to chill and watch it I'm sure I will not be able to stop but found it really slow to about the 5 episode and started watching Dexter, the last month has been history.
Thanks for the info on Breaking Bad, will do some digging.
Been meaning to check this out. ABSOLUTELY loved the wire so it'll need to be something to break the addiction I developed watching that.
Keep going parklane - A friend of mine emailed me at the same point to ask "what the fuss was all about". She's on Season 4 now and that was 3 weeks ago.

You can't possibly imagine how good this series is. Outrageously awesome, from start to finish.

They have goodies for other phones as well but I didn't look at them as it was irrelevant for me!
