For me excellent, every bit as good as Baraka and left you thinking ... A witness of human activity that makes you uncomfortable at times ... Well worth watching in the cinema ...

Just watched 'The Others'. How have I not seen this before? Thought it was very good. Saw the twist coming a mile away, but still very enjoyable. Thought the two kids in it were really good - and even Nicole Kidman managed not to be as wooden as she usually is.

Cinema chains have a long way to go if they're going to survive when the digital revolution truly hits, I agree Leroy!
thing is it's not the cinema chain's fault. They see only about 5p of the ticket you purchase, the only way they can make any money is through ridiculously overpricing the refreshments. Studios have made record profits and cinemas are on the way out.
Cinemas are absolutley booming over here in Ireland, always a huge crowd at the weekend and always busy over the summer. Its the rental stores that will be extinct in a few more years, I have US Netflix and it has a staggering choice, only time I go into a rental store is to see what's out. Find it hard to pay 3 or 4 quid to rent a film when for 7 euros I have netflix on tap.

Always take your own snacks/drinks with you - no limit on choices on offer , cheaper and no queuing , same as going to football.

Couldn't agree more . I love movies but there is nothing more unpleasant than going to a multiplex to watch them.

As I said - bothered its estimated 6 million people download illegally in the the UK . I don't expect I'm top of the list for a knock on the door.
22% of -global- internet bandwidth is used for piracy. Chasing people through the courts has been proven unprofitable for the RIAA and will no doubt for everyone else. Any government that has made moves to combat online piracy has been accused of censoring the internet and has had their proposals shoved where the sun doesn't shine. Sorry supaclive, but there is more chance of winning the lottery than being fined for illegal downloading. If I remember correctly you distribute independent films, you are probably in a good situation there with a niche market that will still visit the cinema / buy dvds and as a lover of the film industry I wish you the very best. But your scare tactics towards downloading are a little off. The only way the industry will ever win this war is to stop them getting online in the first place - Why on earth are distributors still allowing the circulation of 'For your Consideration' DVDs? There are dvd-quality copies of nearly all the Oscar nominated films of this year online at the moment because of this.
It isn't the same watching a film on the telly though. Think cinema is a bit expensive - when I went to see Les Mis, had to pay full wack for seats on the side at the front. Got a sore neck. Film was worth it but felt a bit ripped off too.

Of course the cinemas control the pricing. I watch films at the genesis at whitechapel for around a fiver, whereas you're looking at minimum of ten pound at most others (especially the chains)

they see literally 5p of every ticket sold. The rest goes to the studio. So no. They don't control the pricing. I'm guessing Genesis make their own independant deals with the studios to make it cheaper. As i said earlier in the thread, the reason the food and drinks in cinemas is so pricey is because thats the only area they can make any money on.
