Has anyone bought an Ipad?

  • No chance of another version before Christmas. The new one will see well until after then.

Promise you won't want one until you touch it.
  • I have used one and they are good, but if you have an iphone (or any smart phone) they are probably a waste of money (in my view). I play the psp on the train or even read a book, so spending £350 quid on a big iphone (without the phone capabilities) isnt viable really...

To be fair, I really like apple products, even though they are over priced
  • Apple gives people stuff they never knew they needed, a new way to listen to music, the re-invention of the tablet pc, all these apps, the iTunes store, FaceTime, every thing they release redefines the way people entertain themselves, BUT yuo can get the exact same thing for a lot cheaper, if you just wait 3 months or so. The iPad 2 has only been released because in a months time there will be an influx of Android tablets from everyone else, and Apple are trying to jump the gun
  • I can't fault Apple. Never had a problem with any of their products.

With regard the ipad, couldn't be without it. Decent sized screen for videos and reading books, good for gaming apps etc. Going to Cyprus in July, no on-board films. Ideal for me and Mrs Large to watch a movie or two on a decent screen with excellant picture. Couldn't do that on a phone. Seems the only people who moan about ipads and apple in general are those who don't have their products.

I am going to Florida and going to get one for the kids.

Walmart have them starting at USD399 for 16GB.

Do I need to set up an i store account before i go.

    Advice would be grateful

If it's like Chicago (I have been trying to get one since Saturday), then you won't have a chance. But you can just walk in and buy one - as long as thye have some in stock!

Or have better alternative products perhaps?

I have one, using it right now, until you've had one you will have no concept of how you could possibly have managed without one for so long.

The size makes it much better than the iPhone for anything that you will do for more than three minutes.

The fact that it would take you minutes to boot up a laptop, and you'd probably have to plug it in soon, where as the iPad is on in seconds and lasts for ten hours, means that is it nothing like a replacement for a laptop.

I can type as quick on the iPad as I can on a normal keyboard, where as the iPhone is way too small to achieve that.

Basically if you have the disposal income I can't see a reason not to have an iPad.

Sure there are alternatives, and they may well be cheaper, possibly even better, but even if I were to change the brand I would always, now, have a tablet 'computer' as they really do service a completely different need, despite doing nothing that you can't do elsewhere.

I have had one for about 9 months. I am trying to convince myself I don't need 2! It is a completely new media device that I can't imagine being without. It is not a replacement for a computer. And saying what is the point when you can do all the same stuff on a smart phone is like saying what is the point of a large screen television when you can watch the same programs on a 15 inch portable. The fact is that watching a large screen tv is a completely different and superior experience to watching tv on a 15 inch portable. Doing stuff on an iPad is similarly a different and superior experience to doing the same stuff on a smart phone.

I don't doubt all that. My point is wouldn't you rather do all that on a laptop, so you have a proper keyboard and don't have to hold the bloody thing?

  • The other down side for me is that the iPad is pretty uncomfortable to hold for any length of time....I still find myself browsing on the iPhone as I cant be bothered to go get the iPad
  • [cite]Posted By: Sparrows Lane Lion[/cite]have to download everything off itunes

I have just over 60gb of music, all of which can go on my iphone perfectly fine (I change the music on my phone 2/3 times a week) and cost a grand total of 0p.
