"Charlton's finances are not in a good state and the fans can rest assured that this is in the best interests of the club." "
I know that we all know this... but seeing it in print as a bona fide quote just smacks of setting us up for disappointment. Hope I'm wrong.
I would not read into that at all. We been struggling financially the past 3 years and I am sure Richard Murray will want to sell it to somebody who can provide us a better future. I will be very suprised if Varney is setting us up to be disappointed. If this new consortitum settles our debts and gives us a bit extra to invest on players I will be more than happy.
Browny insinuated that it is on and there will be some money made available in the window. If it isn't going to be much then I hope to god it is spent wisely on a decent striker
I see that the last SLP twitter about it (20 hours ago) said 'I know #cafc fans wondering what is latest with takeover talks. Latest we have been told is that deal could be done by Friday.' Time will tell. And then there was the BBC's Dan Roan's article yesterday:
PV's comment of "Charlton's finances are not in a good state and the fans can rest assured that this is in the best interests of the club." Really leaves you wondering what that means? That at least it will keep us out of admin or that it will take the club significantly forward. Could be either!

well if Benson is anything to go by then I wouldn't entrust Parky with it.

and when mick collins made those comments about being 30m in debt, the tears on here about the paper fabricating stuff up and as if our wonderful club would ever be in so much trouble were an absolute joke

weirdos[/quote] Make you right p. If I remember right, people even said the daily mail have a vendetta against us! Wtf. Interesting comments from reg. I read that as the fans won't initially be impressed but it's in the long term a positive for the club.
Yes stop shouting. I kind of read the quote that way too. But like everything else to do with this takeover we don't really know. We really don't know anything! You get the feeling that if anyone really did get a sniff of some inside information it would be like in the movies - 'I'd tell you but then I'd have to kill you.'
Probably that guy who used to say things like "bring curb backs to Charlton, Charltons was better when him manage team, sack Parky brings curb back or promotions wont have Charlton Athletics" a year or two ago- who had some odd long forgotten username.
