  • What can you mean, 'onest 'arry?
  • Moving i'n with jonjo?
  • if they get 10 good years out of carroll then it will be great business, the kid has someting about him, yes its a lot of money but in comparison to the torres money, which i also feel is an extraordinary amount for a player who on his day is exceptional, but he has started to pick up the little knocks and niggles that plague a centre forward constantly.

i think liverpool may have just got the better side of the deal

[cite]Posted By: mart77[/cite]I'm glad Harry Redknapp said about the nonsense of Carroll handing in a transfer request and the deal only going through because of this. As he said, Newcastle were never going to turn that money down and just want to make themselves look better, whilst vilifying the departing Carroll.

Most unlike Harry to have something to say!!

Incidentally whilst i'm surprised at the fee being so high, i think Carroll will prove to be a great signing. Not only will he provide an outlet up front, but he's a perfect partner for Suarez. The 2 of them together can be a lethal strike pairing.
  • So Carroll and Suarez in the same squad. What are the odds on that becoming a bust-up?

    Lou and Andy up front

    a bit of a kerfuffle
  • I know what you mean about a possible bust up between the two of them, but I could also go the other way. It's more likely to be a bust up though
  • Erm, sorry to rain on the parade but doesn't Andy Carroll still have to face two separate criminal trials in the courts?

As far as I am aware he is up on two charges, firstly for belting a bloke outside a nightclub and secondly for belting his ex-bird when she walked in on him in flagrante with another young lady?

So, let's get this right, Andy Carroll is....

a] Injured and out for the next six weeks.

b] On two separate court charges and possibly facing some stir.

c] Relatively unproven in the Premiership.

    d].....worth 35 million quid?

    Hmmmmmmmmmmm......

  • ....oh, and one more thing!

This is probably another reason why Hughton got the elbow from Newcastle, he was apparently refusing to sell Carroll.

That's why that nice Mr. Ashley needed one of his pals to come in and take the rap for him from the Geordie faithful.....step forward Alan Pardew.

Does Pardew really give a feck about Newcastle or is he more interested in earning a bit more bunce to stash in the pension pot? They can scream what they like at him, he could not care less.

Newcastle will really struggle in the long-term without Carroll, even with the money they have - most of which Ashley will probably use to recoup some of his heavy losses - they won't attract anyone of the same class.
  • Mike Ashley must be loving this, a £35million profit on a 22 year old striker with a personality issue
  • a) just had a medical and maybe playing against stoke on Wednesday
    b) dont think the charges now are anything like what they were (been reading up) and do you really think lLiverpool would pay £35m for someone who just be getting 2years
    c) 11 goals in 19 games (Hesky has gone two seasons without scoring that many and he is proven) England international and probably our best prospect as a forward in the current England crop.
    d) Only time will tell, if he scores enough goals to get liverpool into the champions league the YES for sure, if he scores enough goals to get them into the europa then yes maybe, considering a lot of comments on here suggested Liverpool were going down this year.

a] Really? I read earlier this week that he was out for up to two months. He could pass a medical as long as the injury is not long-term.

So, looks like he might come back sooner rather than later.

b] Looks like you're right, one charge has been dropped and the other one he ended up with just a fine. Did not know about this.

c] There have been quite a few strikers who have had one fantastic season in the Premiership and then never repeated the feat, he might go the same way as James Beattie and a couple of others or on the other hand he could become a legend, only time will tell.

d] If he scored enough goals this season to get them into the Champions League then he'd be worth 70 million!
  • Like i said only time will tell, I actually think he's a great forward and the type of forward this country needs more than the likes of rooney. He's like a crouch with muscle, just ask the defenders who have to mark him how good he is.

He is certainly more than a target-man, his strike against Liverpool earlier in the year was fantastic.

You would think that the biggest challenge for Dalglish will be to get him to relinquish his "refuelling" habits, if he can get him to grow up and realise that 35 million pound footballers should not really be in the Bigg Market or any other nightclubs then he'll be halfway there.

Its all down to Carroll really, there is only so much that Liverpool can do for him.
  • He definitely fits the "duncan ferguson" type of player, let's hope he doesn't end up not fully living up to his potential like big dunc.

Agree with all this but i have as i have said in another thread, I do actually believe that Kenny Daglish does know a good forward when he see's one. Just take a look at the ones he's played with and managed. This man does know a good forward when he sees one. But lets face it we could do this for the rest of the season but the only real proof will be where they end up. And of course if Carroll makes an impact.
  • Carroll reminds me a lot of Duncan Ferguson but with better feet.Big future if he can stay on the straight and narrow.
Pricewise Liverpool went well over the top when you consider Inter Milan have just bought Pazzini for around 16 million.
Having to quickly appease their supporters must have pushed the price up .
  • Unc - just dont let Jonjo pick up his out of work time habits!

  • The pressure of a 35million price tag might get to carroll and he may loose hes confidence. It could be a judge of character and go either way for him. I dont think he will fit in at liverpool time will tell but 11 goals in top flight for a striker no where near worth 35million. its all just based on hope that hes the next top english centre forward the next shearer etc. So far so good for Carroll but he wont get off to a flying start and will be a big flop at the kop imo.
  • This is honestly the craziest transfer fee I've seen in my entire life. A scouse mate of mine reckons it's because of the incoming rules on the amount of english players needed in a team. Not sure I buy that, and not sure how kenny managed to convince the chairman that it was worth paying that much. Mental.
  • A good player and value if he scores 25 plus goals a season and a few in the CL, but I wonder if Liverpool have the set up to benefit his style of play? Surely they need a couple of good wingers rather than playing the ball through the centre?
  • Surprised Pool never went for Bent before Villa did. Bent is proven goalscorer in the EPL and has a good disiplinary reocrd. Rate him far more than Carroll as prolific goalscorer.

Beat me to it! I'm resigned to the Toon not getting relegated this season but cannot wait for some truly awful summer signings followed by a spectacular early season implosion.
  • As soon as pardew starts to bring in his own players and has more influence on the team I don't think the toon will have much time left in the PL
  • Am I A £35m Striker?

I scored 24 goals helping my side win promotion back to the Premier League aged just 22.

Then in my first season in the top flight I had bagged an impressive 15 goals by the end of January. Including a goal against the reigning
champions, away at Arsenal and in a home win over Liverpool. My form earned me an England call-up and my debut in an international friendly.

    Am a I £35m striker?

No I am Michael Ricketts, February 2002.
