  • Parker wasn't a prem signing HG

    1. D Bent

    2. Di Canio

    3. Powell

    4. MARK FISH (£700k ffs! and best centre defender Curbs signed)

Di Canio was my fave ever signing, felt we'd stepped up when he signed and he gave everything for us.

You could write a book on our Prem signings...

Did we have a 700 thread on Net Addicks when Bent was about to sign, and now we are wetting ourselves over a Dagenham cast off, Jesus...

we are so desperate now for any chink of light that a link to a dagenham player has viagra like reactions with us all

Cant see how people can over look JJ. His goals kept us up the first yera whihc was then the springboard for the rest.
  • I don't know how you can put a one season wonder like DiCanio in. Luke Young highly over rated - I never enjoyed watching him.

    Jensen

    Bent

    Euell

    Stuart

What would you prefer, that we all mope about feeling sorry for ourselves? People are desperate to get out of this league and were spoilt in the premiership.

Best signing: Scott Parker's new contract that Summer before his ultimate departure, was that our best 6 months in the prem (sure I know it probably doesn't count)

    :)

In terms of value for money and of course skill.

    1.  Bent - got shed loads of goals and a 11 million profit
    2. Di canio - on a free and that season where he was just so influential
    3.     Powell - no explanation needed
    4. Jensen - kept that bit of skill that we needed
    5. Euell -   not prolific but always vital goals.

Well done for pointing out that things have changed since being relegated from the prem. I may have missed it otherwise!

Did Deano sign before the Div 2 winning season?  If he was Premiership he'd have a case for being number 1.

    Otherwise 1. PdC 2. Powell 3. Bent 4. Euell

    Costa ---legend

D Bent----in a pony side he still did it

Powel---"who?"  but we knew and the people who mattered knew

Young----solid and can still do it at a high level.

    Jenson----pure class

    1. Bent - for his goal ratio, always being a threat, making a shed load of money for us and still being a viable Prem player after leaving us.
    2. Powell - fantastic defender, 100% effort and always with a smile.  Club legend.
    3. Jensen - sheer class in midfield that we never manager to replace.
    4. Kishishev - much maligned, he was vital to our success.

On this list Keily would have forced out Kish, but we got him in Div 1.

From the summary I've done below, the shocking thing is the amount of money we lost on most of these.  Only Bent being sold for more than cost price.

    @Stig

To be fair though most of those gave us very decent service. Even though we received no fee for HH, Fish, Holland, Kish, Powell and Stuart no one could argue that we didn't get our moneys' worth from those signings. Even the £1.5m loss on Luke Young was only because we were relegated. In fact I'd say that spreadsheet makes pretty good reading if you take into account what those players did for us. It was the ones that came after that were the problem.

Yep, can't argue with that.   That is the big lesson in all this: don't get relegated (or get into financial difficulties) and you won't have to sell cheap.

No problem with not making a profit on players who had the best years of their career with us. Jensen for one had injury problems, we sold him at the right time (though never replaced him).

Powell, Stuart, Holland, Hreidarsson etc were signed in their late 20s, we were never going to get back what we paid for them.
