We want to get back to Eltham in reasonable time

From Eltham it looks like the best bet would be the tube from North Greenwich. but my brother is worried that we won't be able to park the car at North Greenwich, it being NYE. Is he right, would it really be that bad at around 4.00? And does it cost a bomb to park there?

Perhaps we should take the Valley Express?

What do you reckon, resident SE Londoners? Ta very much

i think it's £8.50 all day for the tube car park but there is probably an event at the O2 so would be quite busy, as you are driving already, why not go the 10 minutes further and park near the ground rather than go on bit of a goose chase?

the valley to the matchroom stadium is much closer by car than palace to millwall

Use the carpark at Woolwich Arsenal, get the DLR from there upto Stratford

Park in Sainsbury's car park down the road. It's free, loads of the buses from North Greenwich go there and it's only 5 mins away.

This is the best option DLR from Woolwich, very easy

Except the DLR from Woolwich will take much longer to get to/from Stratford than the Jubilee Line from North Greenwich - and he wants the quickest route, not necessarily the best/easiest.

there's a kasabian thing on at the O2 so could be busy, as threadkiller said, if he's driving then might as well go all the way to the ground, should be a quick getaway after

Park in Tunnel Avenue and walk across the footbridge

No it will not be busy at 4 pm. And if your lucky as your walking up to car park pay machine someone leaving will hand you their paid ticket on way out.

It will be busy at 8.00 pm coming back but you are going out not in.

    Will be fine.

    Thanks all.

yes its the quickest i want, especially going back, which is why we are a bit wary of taking the car all the way. Its always busy leaving a ground, even orient, and then we run into NYE traffic..

(BTW, by car, what's the best route across the river?)

You can tell how long I've been away:-)

Looking like North Greenwich, I reckon

Or just park in Eltham station then train it to New Cross then to Canada Water then Jubilee line to Stratford then onto Leyton

    Yeah, that'd be really quick.

How about driving round the M25 then coming down the M11?

park at sainsburys near the O2 and jump on a bus to North Greenwich Station
  • park at westfield stratford do some shopping one stop on the tube

Eltham - Lewisham - Stratford - Leyton would be quicker.

It's been a while since we've had a good train thread!

DLR wouldn't work, no service between West India Quay and Poplar, although that is only 1 stop really

It's a 200m walk, although I guess you would rule that out!

there are attendants in the Sainsbury's car park and you can get clamped.

Not sure if the DLR service from Woolwich will be running direct to Stratford on the day but easy change to Jubilee at Canning Town

Woolwich is the quicker option than parking at Sainsbury's

Whatever you do don't park in the event area at North Greenwich
  • 132 from eltham high street to north greenwich takes about 15-20mins.
    no parking or clamping worries.

I am thinking of driving. Anyone know what parking is like at Orient?
