West Ham can, would and will beat either of them
That was basically the view from and around Sunderland in 1998

yep and they pissed the league the next season after failing in the play offs

so i want west ham up , they'll be more of a threat than brum or blackpool next year to our title ambitions ;-)

I see your reasoning Oohaah, but you have to factor in the financial issue if they fail to make it.

And i seriously think we should stop this talk of being contenders. Anything above 10th will be good.

Haven't seen the t-shirts, but read that West Ham players were celebrating on the pitch with slogans referring back to '66 along the lines of them winning it etc.

Staying down will hamper them long term, a few players will be off, attendances will go down a little as the fans face another year of this level, etc etc etc

I REALLY want them to stay down. Can't bear the media love in with them, plus I'm interested to see how they cope with the inevitable shedding of their best players. Also, it's a local derby.
Unfortunately, I can't see it happening. They've strolled past Cardiff without breaking sweat and Brum and Blackpool just don't look good enough.
    Oh well.
I can't disagree with any of this. Although my feelings about it are slightly stronger than 'Oh well'!

i was at the game yesterday - got a free ticket... amazed at how poor cardiff were and how malky mackay didnt do anything!!! From what i saw yesterday, our current squad would tear cardiff apart!
  • Options
I think Wet Spam looked several classes above Cardiff who were poor. I'd prefer them to be out of our division next season.
I guess the real question is who they will be able to keep from this season if they don't go up. They have huge debt levels, and all their players will be one year closer to the end of their contracts.

Also Big Sam could be under pressure if they lose at Wembley. A new manager with half the squad moved on could see them struggle to make the top three again next season.
The Porn Kings have said that they will continue with their investment in the club even if they do get promoted.

Cardiff have had a long season and maybe they were running on empty, but we would definitely have beaten the shower that turned up for both play off games - they were poor in every department. I found them frustrating to watch and I didn't really care- I wonder how their supproters felt?

West Ham will win the match at wembley provided they do not think all they have to do is turn up ,but I think they will win and they will return to where they belong the premier league

Sorry, but they don't "belong" in the Prem unless they get there. Just because they've been relatively fashionable/successful in the relatively recent past doesn't mean their rightful place is at the top table.
How long will they need to be shit before people stop saying they "belong" in the prem? Two years? Ten? Fifty? I don't see anyone saying Huddersfield, Preston or Portsmouth "belong" in the prem, but they've had more league success in the past than West Ham.
The fact is, you belong where you are. For the past three years, League One has been where we belong, Wigan belong in the Prem and if West Ham stay down, they'll belong in the Championship.
No one has a god-given right to success just because their supporters and media cheerleaders are so arrogant to think they are "too big for this league".

Sparrow Lane Lion is right I said on this message some time ago that Millwall fans do not consider us as their biggest rivals first West Ham, second Crystal Palace ,third Leeds,

We seem to have a problem understanding that ,if they do not consider us as the biggest rivals why should we care

The time they've spent in the top flight is irrelevant. By your logic, Coventry "belong" in the Premiership because they spent most of the last 40 or 50 years in the top flight.
If West Ham win the playoff, then fine, they belong there. If not, they don't.

The trouble with people saying teams "belong" in the Prem, or the Champions League or whatever is that it completely undermines the efforts of all the smaller or less fashionable clubs. When I hear pundits bleating on about how Liverpool or Spurs or Man City or West Ham fans "deserve better" I always think they deserve no more than Plymouth, Barnet or Port Vale fans (to take three random examples). In fact, I'd say they deserve LESS than those fans - those who've spent their lives gamely cheering on a side that has minimal success built on minimal funds. They're the fans that really deserve something, not the ones who've been lucky enough or cynical enough to support a successful team.
The big clubs could suffer five consecutive relegations for all I care, and if that did happen, then the sixth tier of English football would be where they "belong".

If you talk to my father's generation, then Wolves, Portsmouth, Preston, Bolton, Blackpool were amongst the most consistantly successful in the land. Not forgetting Charlton, of course.

Teams like Liverpool, Leeds, Chelsea, West Ham were just run of the mill Second Division clubs.
And none of them had ever won the FA Cup.

Go back a little further and mighty Huddersfield Town swept all before them, winning 3 titles on the trot.

In football there is an old adage that says,"......you're only as good as your last game".
You can also apply that to any club, in any season.

Apparently they don't care about us but that hasn't prevented him bigging up West Ham of all teams in order to look for a rise.

It isn't about god given rights but West Ham will continue to invest in players even if they stay down, which makes them a problem. I think if they stay down this season and next, they will probably be in real trouble, but it will be easier for us next season if they are out of the way.

We do. Just don't start thinking it's on the same level as West Ham or Palace.

This arrogant attitude is the very reason why I really really hate West Ham more than any other club. The numerous times they have been relegated they all cry they are too good to go down and they deserve to be in the premiership. No other club makes these sort of claims on this sort of level. Other clubs accept their relegation is a direct result of not winning enough games, scoring enough goals or performing well enough throughout the season. Wet Spam view relegation as something their enemies have unfairly forced upon them. Even clubs who get relegated because of docked points make less of a fuss than those cheating baXXXds.

    Fat, bald, arrogant, scum bags.

    And breath...

Not really when Millwall play West Ham or vice versa there is a limit on tickets first for away supporters, secondly when millwall play west ham at home only season ticket holders & members are allowed in

Thanks BA. Yeah, I figured that may be the case, but as it happens, he's making the points that so many make in all seriousness with regards to this issue. Wind up Merchant or not, it gives an opportunity to make a point, so not a problem from my perspective!

Not really if you understood the circumstances. Millwall/West Ham games are rarely the biggest attendances for either club, for pretty obvious reasons.

If we hadn't have been so kind to open the lower tier for you as well as have general sale in the home ends for Charlton fans to buy, the gate wouldn't have been as high.
