I haven't looked all that closely, but from what I've read he has spent a lot of money at Spurs, and the better players (particularly the younger ones with any resale value) were not signed by him.
He might have done well there, but he had a few decent players when he got there, and he has spent a lot of money (much of which couldn't be recouped by selling the players he brought in). One does have to wonder what Spurs financial state would have been like if they hasn't had the CL season, and hadn't be so well backed by their owners.
I find it hard to believe that all the clubs he left found themselves in financial trouble by coincidence. Portsmouth, in particular, had some outrageous contacts awarded while Redknapp was there.
He is, clearly, a good coach, but there is little evidence of him getting much more out of a group of players than his predecessors. He, basically, goes out and buys a new team at massive cost (including transfers and wages).
Even though Spurs were in trouble when he came in it was clear they were in a false position, and Ramos was, rumoured, to be keen to get sacked so that he could go back to Spain and get his contract paid up.

As much as I dislike the man I've always said he has done okay there and when you look at it and ignore the media championing him every 5 seconds thats exactly what he has done. Has not won anything there, and got into the champions league once (okay I admite this year was a bit unlucky) but for what they've spent Spurs are about where they should be. Also this crap about him taking over when they were bottom, it is true however every report wants to turn it into some sort of miracle, everyone knew that Spurs where in a false position under Ramos and that a half decent manager would not have been anywhere near that position with that squad.
I do disagree about the good coach bit, he is clearly a very good man motivator but players have been on record saying he doesn't discuss tactics and if you look I think you will find few players have ever furthered their progression under his management, I expect some would say Bale but I think its true that his hand was forced to play Bale left wing due to a horrendous run of injuries to certain players.
There must be more to this than meets the eye. I suspect that Levy has (metaphorically) shot himself in the foot and cut of his nose to spite his face .. 'arry will be 'ard to replace. He got the very best from a group of players who individually and collectively had underperformed before his arrival. Spurs will struggle to get into the Euroleague spots next season. Spurs is a club which seemingly has a great penchant for plucking disaster from the jaws of tranquility and progress.
Redknapp added: "I had four great years at Spurs. All you can do is leave the club in a better state than you found it and I did that, for sure." Tell that to Bournemouth, Portsmouth and Southampton, you deluded prat !

Hmmm, in the 4 years under Redknapp, spent £100m, recouped £50m. So net spend of £50m roughly over 4 years, approximately £12.5m a season. To be fair to Harry, we've got our wages worth out of Friedel, Gallas and Parker. There's not many other players he's bought that we havennt got anything for. He hasnt really spent a significant amount of money. Wouldnt be surprised if his net spend was actually more at Pompey than it was while he was at Spurs.
Our business model was never based on us being regularly in European competition. We're a well run club. Got no complaints with Levy or ENIC as far as the club is run. We're not a massive club, of course we need to cut our cloth accordingly. Our transfer policy for the last 7/8 years has always been buy unproven young players, develop them and sell them on at a profit. Carrick (bought for £3m and sold for £18m), Keane (bought for £6m and sold for £20m to Liverpool), Berbatov (bought for £10m and sold for £30m) to name the main ones. I guess the main failure in the model was buying Bentley for £15m but mistakes will happen as at all clubs. Generally it has worked. The same will happen with Bale, Modric and vdV. Eventually, the same will happen with the likes of kaboul and Waker. We've dismantled the team time and time again, made money and will continue to do so. Without owners with seemingly bottomless pockets, thats all you can do to survive in the Premier League.
Ok, we'd like the board to spend more but they were never going to back Harry when they thought he could be going down or even taking the England job. I trust Levy and the board.
I would have thought the profile pic gives away my alliegance! Dont expect special treatment just because I'm AFKA's mate or anything though. Certainly dont come on here not expecting to get stick :-)

Ha, ha, to be honest they look so small I dont take any notice of profile pics. I have your card marked though :-)
To be fair to him - Spurs in the top 4 is a great achievement as is Pompey winning the cup - but he does it by spending money rather than great management although his judgement on players seems very good. Can see why he might not be popular with chairment though.

Y** t*** :-)
Yew Tree? I think those Chinese insults lose something in translation.
My mistake. I used the word coach in the wrong context. I meant that he could pick a side that could do ok. I think I did make the point that few of his players were better und him. If I didn't make that point I meant to.

I did say I hadn't looked that closely. I had been given the impression that he'd spend more than you explained. Maybe the figures I saw ignored the money he had recouped. On a seperate note do you think they will be able to realise a profit on VdV with him being 29? I would have thought that it would be a lot to ask a club to pay more than £8m for him now, but I haven't seen him play.

Would you pay more than £8m for a player that can only last 60 minutes? Dont think I would, world class or not. Cant remember the last time he finished 90 minutes.
To be fair to Levy, we've got our moneys worth from him. He's been a joy to watch at times.

Just checked the last 4 years expenditure over £500k for Spurs. The lot below comes to over £170m. So a bit selective there JohnBoy.
Carrick was bought in 2004 and Berbatov in 2006 so before 'Arry was there.
'Arry bought Keane for £16m not £6m.

Whatever he has done with your team, certainly hasn't been worth the phenominal investment of £170m before you even start thinking of wages.
Redknapp didn't join Spurs until October 2008, several of those signings were before he got there. I make it £76.3m worth, which makes the £100m quite close.
I haven't looked all that closely, but from what I've read he has spent a lot of money at Spurs, and the better players (particularly the younger ones with any resale value) were not signed by him.

You've obviously got more time on your hands with me, I quoted what I'd read in the Sun this morning.
I was talking about the Spurs business model under the management of ENIC. That has nothing to do with Harry.
Not sure where you get these figures from but Harry didnt buy Bentley, Modric, Berbatov, nor Dos Santos. We only paid £4m upfront for Dos Santos too. All was the work of Damien Commoli, the previous "Sporting Director" who fell on Juande Ramos' sword. Pienaar, Parker and Chimbonda were all free transfers (we did originally pay a fee to Wigan for Chimbonda the first time we signed him under Jol) The rest of the list looks about right though. So not being selective at all.
Oh, and the Keane figures I quoted, Spurs bought Keane for £6m in the days of Hoddle and Pleat. Sold him for £19m to Liverpool, bought him back for £16m then sold him to LA Galaxy for £7m. Outlay £22m, Recouped £26m.
Net spend after sales taken into account is around £50m as I stated (excluding wages of course)

Well, 'Arry me old china, looks like Spurs have given you absolute freedom.
Careful with your choice of words next time 'Arry.
