Surrey batsman Tom Maynard, the son of former England international Matthew Maynard, has died at the age of 23.

I can't imagine what the family and the club are going through right now. He seemed so promising. Rest in piece.

Very sad that a player should die so young with his potential still unfulfilled.

A macabre coincidence that 3 young players Graham Kersey, Ben Hollioake and now Tom Maynard have all died young as Surrey players.

    RIP Tom.

Rugby League ran this campagin last year, and with this tragic news plus the recent death of Gary Speed, more needs to be done, so hopefully these incidents are very rare.

Hit by a tube train at 5am and the British Transport Police are treating the incident as non suspicious.

Terrible waste of life but IF it's true about him drink driving, he could have knocked down and killed someone himself.

I'm a Surrey fan and am very saddened by this. Saw him against Surrey 2 years ago, great innings, and so pleased when he signed the next season.

    What a waste of life.

    RIP Tom.
  • He was killed by Wimdeldon Park Tube station. My wife is a pratice manager near the scene. The Police were following his BMW in which driving all over the place. When they tried to pull him over he took off at high speed. Dumped the car and ean down Aurther Rd. Climbed over fences to escape the Police. When he ran down the grass bank in which is met by the tracks of the undetground.Very sad for his loss, but if this was a normal 23 year old driving drunk in the early hours and trying to escape the local police would everyone on here be as sympayhetic??
