    This post contains spoilers.........

Finished BB 5 last week and am going to start from scratch again it was so good. As for criticizing things like certain characters would not be married to that person or he wouldn't die that way or she would not be zzzzzzzzz.............that's the beauty of it, Making shit up, escapism. No way did he just walk away from a bomb blast, adjust his tie like nothing happened.....oh wait, half his face is missing! Brilliant from start to finish and it had everything you could ever want from a TV series or film. Shut the fuck up Walter and let me die in peace.........
  • Watching Series 4 at the moment haven't read previous posts but did anyone find it a little slow?

Its ok but some of it is so drawn out.
  • Starting out from Series 1. Its truly an excellent program. Not sure how I missed it but happy to be watching it now. Sounds like it gets better and better as it goes along.

Didn't think it was outstanding brilliance. It was definitely watchable and had you on the edge of your seat. There were some great scenes. While I'm writing this comment I'm actually reminding myself that it actually was really really good.

I love how he just becomes an absolute mess at the end and forgets who he really is.

The star wars story is almost quite similar. Only how Walt/Anakin (Darth Vader) vow to look after their families by doing the necessary evil. Accept the power and bad behaviour only corrupts their mind completely...until they realise within themselves they have massively f**cked up and do only what they can to repair it. Those key moments of decision making.

Funny, it struck me as a tv version modern retelling of Scarface. Outsider gets into the drug industry and slowly destroys everything around him and then finally destroys himself.
Maybe both. There are quite a few refs to Scarface in BB as I recall.

When Vince Gilligan pitched the show to the TV execs, he called it "Mr Chips becomes Scarface" or words to that effect.

@KentAddick Chase has commented on the ending. I wrote an article on this for Sky Atlantic (sadly the site has moved on) but I do remember finding quotes from Chase...

He said: "It's all there. Everything that pertains to that episode was in that episode. And it was in the episode before that and the one before that and seasons before this one and so on. There had been indications of what the end is like. Remember when Jerry Toricano was killed? Silvio was not aware that the gun had been fired until after Jerry was on his way down to the floor. That's the way things happen... It's already going on by the time you even notice it."

I'd also add, for anyone in denial, that the 'Members Only Jacket' and the editing of the scene are the biggest clues (the jacket was worn in the first episode of the season for hit in the diner, and by the guy who shot Silvio).

The Sopranos finale is by far the best ending ever created for a TV show IMO, but I wouldn't then class BB's ending as 'lazy'. Comparisons are inevitable, but not remotely necessary. The ending to BB had to be fulfilling within the context of the show, not an Earth shatteringly original climax that is forced to blow any other show out of the water. That wasn't what they were aiming for, and wasn't what they tried to achieve. And while you had to 'get' the Sopranos ending to realise the genius (few did, and I know I didn't), 99% of people were very satisfied with how BB ended. That was the goal.

Interesting, most of the quotes I've seen on chase has him saying that he has no interest whatsoever on commenting on whats already up there on the screen. But it's exactly what I got from the ending.

Yes at times I felt like giving it up but carried on because it was so highly talked about. I find it goes through stages where it's brilliant and cant stop watching and other times where its a bit of a choir to watch.

There is also a fatigue that you get if you watch marathons of episodes in one go. They are not made to be watched like that so often the episodes can provide less 'enjoyment' if one doesn't have a day or two between them. When broadcast there is normally a week between episodes and I think that can enhance the satisfaction of the stories in between the high action that, sort of, fill in the gaps in the time line.
  • ^ I agree with that, but Netflix wouldn't!
  • Up to series 2 now, really enjoying it. Even better, my missus has got into it as well. It was a good tip from my brother, so thanks to him. I may stretch to a cup of tea at half time next home game !
  • Spoiler*

Favourite ever acting sequence is when Walter (Brian Cranston) is looking down on junior and Skylier after the struggle knife incident, Protesting "where a family".

Started watching it again and actually prefer it the 2nd viewing. Amazing.

  • I also think if they were going to make another episode (not that they should)

It could start with Jesse at the age of 35-40 looking at Walters gravestone in a tense manner many thoughts running through his head about the crazy two years he had with him

He goes to a book signing which tells his full honest story about the tales over the two years. It's a best seller called "Captain cook".

"I guess my story begins when I walked into chemistry class and introduced to my new teacher Mr White"

    Jesse pickman the celebrity criminal.

    I've thought too much.
  • Get out more Dave:)

BB is the best ever though.
  • Well, after many a late night watching episode after episode, we arrived at the final 3.....so fell into bed at 2am this morning!

Thoroughly enjoyed every minute & will loan out to friends & family , expecting them to become as addicted as we were.

Any suggestions which Box Set we should look at for our next "fix" ?
  • Fanny did you ever watch 24? Just catching up now and thoroughly enjoying it. Failing that the three series of Luther is a must.

We watched the first couple of series but then missed the rest for no particular reason so maybe that's our next "must watch".

Love getting really involved with a set of characters - BB was comparable to a good book you just cannot put down.

Did catch all the Luther episodes and enjoyed them.

Never watched 24 when it was originally aired, but picked it up a couple of years back. Gotta say, I was extremely disappointed. Nice original idea to have 24 episodes that are a single day, but in practice it didn't work for me. As for his daughter getting kidknapped? To be snatched is unlucky, twice is careless, but 3 times all in a single day? WTF?? Got as far as 2nd episode of season 2 then realised I couldn't take anymore of this cack.

    Luther? Now you're talking.......................
  • 24 circa Season 4-5 really was its peak.
  • Too true. Season 1 was badly planned. Season 2 was ok. 3 was gritty. 4 an 5 were standard. 6 onwards are lough out loud bad.

    Actually KentAddick...

It's all opinions the Wire was average, season two was so disappointingly slow, after season one which was solid I'm surprised they made another 3 seasons the second was so, so lame and I've not gone back to it.

Even the most fanatic Wire fans will tell you season 2 was disappointing. If you really stopped watching after that, you’re missing out!
Season 2 of The Wire is my favourite, I certainly find it the most powerful (apart from maybe 4's ending). Objectively the docks could have been more of a side-story but it was necessary in order to build up Baltimore as a city and its crime. Ziggy can grate but all he wanted was some respect, Frank only did what he thought was best for his docks, and Nicky got dreamy eyed thinking he could play gangster. It is a better watch the second time around.

Spot on. Every complete fanatic of the Wire that I know rates S2 the highest.

Me too, I could have watched more based around the docks and the strokes they pulled.

The Sopranos if you haven't seen it before. Better in my view than Breaking Bad.
  • The Game of Thrones series is quite good

The Sopranos will always be my recommendation if some one hasn't seen it. The wire is good as well. Just finished season 3 of boardwalk empire which is fantastic.

I think that this is the first time I have agreed with you on here Fanny ;-)))

Watched the programme relentlessly on Netflix night after night other than when Olympic highlights are on and just saw 'the explosion' last night after midnight.

We are planning to watch 'Orange the new black' series next and will let you have a review Fanny after we have got through the fist 2 or 3 episodes on Netflix.

Lol, JK ( did your smiley face mean to reflect my double chins ???)

TBH I'm feeling a bit empty today knowing there are no more episodes to look forward to.

But may have a gander on Amazon to see how much "Game of Thrones" or "The Sopranos" is selling for.

Not heard of "Orange the new black " & will look forward to hearing your views.

Take a look on Ebay for your Box sets Fanny, you can pick up some bargains on there that have only been watched once and still in mint condition.

Orange is the new black is about a woman whose past catches up with her and she's sent to prison. Watched about 6 episodes now, but not watched one in a while. It's quite easy on the brain and not really that serious, just a bit of fun viewing when there's nothing else on.

Another series I enjoy is "Person of interest". Created by the guys that brought us Lost. The main plot is as follows:

Person of Interest follows former CIA paramilitary operative, John Reese (Jim Caviezel), who is presumed dead and teams up with reclusive billionaire Finch (Michael Emerson) to prevent violent crimes in New York City by initiating their own type of justice. With the special training that Reese has had in Covert Operations and Finch's genius software inventing mind, the two are a perfect match for the job that they have to complete. With the help of surveillance equipment, the work "outside the law" and get the right criminal behind bars.

Didn't think they could take it futher than a season without becoming repeatitive, but other stories begin to emerge and it goes along, making it quite enjoyable. Not a classic but quite fun. Currently halfway through season 3. Season 1 is on netflix, more to follow...........
  • Thanks for that, tangoflash.
