Glastonbury....

  • He seemed really uncomfortable singing “right hard to remember” like it was a different language.

It’s an amazing set list with some annoying crooning!
  • Hot chip were good. And courteeners. Saw both at benicassim in 2008 so on a right old nostalgia trip.
  • I don’t think Glastonbury is for the tv watching masses. It’s for the people in the field and they ‘try’ to bring it to the masses. And it fails a lot. I saw Diana Ross last year and soooo many people said it was shit. She was shit. The sound was shit. Well I was there and it was bloody amazing. The atmosphere of the people watching and the sound in the field cannot be recreated.
I dare say it was the same for arctic monkeys today and the majority of people there loved it. Those who don’t love them would have gone elsewhere to one of the 100 stages or bars or comedy or cinema or passed out in their tent from earlier over indulging. It’s so hard to bring the vibe to peoples living rooms.
You are right in that there is obviously nothing like actually being there.

Having said that. I did enjoy the arctic monkeys and other sets I watched at home.
  • Did they just end Arabella with the riff from Black Sabbath's Paranoid?
They’ve done this for years, pretty much ever since the song released.

Bizarre that the lad who once sung "You're not from New York City, you're from Rotherham..." is now doing his best Vegas lounge-singer impersonation, when he's from Sheffield.
He’s been asked about this indirectly in interviews and response was basically it’d be weirder if he was still doing the same Sheffield lad act when he’s nearly 40 and done well for himself.

The latest stuff isn’t for me either but still excited to see them on tour in a few months.
  • Never really got into the foo fighters, they just seem to create songs where they keep repeating words in them. It’s that the best they can do, then it’s a no from me.

I'm not there so I can only comment on what I'm seeing on BBC.
Warpaint.  Mildly entertaining but I'm not sure I'd want to see a whole set.

Foo Fighters.  Much better on record.

Cate Blanchett with Sparks.  Bonkers but in a good way.

Arctic Monkeys.  I'm in a minority here, I know, but I find them really, really boring.  Edit: having read others' comments on the previous page, I guess I'm not in that much of a minority.
  • The Saw Doctors played the acoustic stage last night, unfortunately there was no BBC coverage.

Do you think “Vegas lounge-singers” actually come from Las Vegas?!

  • Texas were brilliant, I also enjoyed Royal Blood and the Foo's.
AM I thought were boring tbh.
Today, being the oldie that I am, looking forward to seeing Rick Astley at midday, Lewis Cappaldi, Lizzo and of course GNR.
Tomorrow is, for me, the one I'm really looking forward to!

Liam Gallagher hasn't changed much in that respect
  • AM might have just played the most boring headline set I've seen at Glastonbury and I saw coldplay in 2011
  • I have ignored modern music and am still with Mick getting his Yayas out, but last night in a fit of boredom we watched a bit of Galsto. Loved Yaya Bey, Warpaint and Foo Fighters but gave up on Arctic Monkeys after their 2nd number and realise that I have missed a lot of good stuff. I understand where Suzi is coming from but TV is better than nothing but maybe us armchair people should be slower to criticise, wish I was young and fit enough to be there as it is only just down the road.

Disagree, i watched foo fighters and pale waves earlier and both sets were enjoyable because they have good songs. Think i enjoyed about 4 songs of the AM set
Well obviously an element of it is down to personal preference. Some bands could play in my back garden and I wouldn’t even bother going to watch. ‘Good songs’ is very subjective. I’m sure some people think Texas have ‘good songs’ but I’d rather spend an hour in a portaloo than watch what I would call their shite.

Assuming you don’t live in Lancashire anymore?!

Have had some great nights watching them and was all set for their Lisbon & London gigs last year before Taylor died. As Suzi mentioned earlier, when you’re in the crowd it’s a totally different vibe and one it’s really hard not to enjoy.

And to be fair, The Saw Doctors do repeat “I useta love her” quite a lot too!  🤷🏻‍♂️😉😂
  • I don't understand the point of even playing your old stuff if you're going to butcher it.

If your style has changed that dramatically over the years that you don't relate to it, then don't play it.
  • Arctic monkeys are desperate to be American. It's a shame really because it gets in the way of a few good songs that they have.

Drop the mock accent and they'd be 5 times better.

You could probably do both at the same time

your assumption is correct - North Dorset
  • Good crowd for Rick Astley!
  • My brother went to see them in the week and said it was awesome. Can’t be the same band.
I saw them last Saturday and they were brilliant.
They played more "hits", Alex's voice was good and they had loads more energy.
    9/10 last week, 6/10 tonight.
    Almost identical set list !!??

Where are they playing ‘in a few months’ ?

Every time I have seen Eels they play a new rendition of My Beloved Monster or Novocaine and I think it's great, I love hearing E play around with stuff as it keeps him interested in doing it.
  • Sure I read Pulp are playing today. Does anyone know where & when I can see them?
  • No idea afka but they did one of the great headline shows when they stood in for Suede back in 96? ish
  • Looks like it was an untrue rumour. Shame
