Bromley apple have said that they are one of the few stores in apple that get a weekend delivery and they suggest i get there for 8am tomoz so that is the plan

What does he want one for NLA, and how old is he? Unless there's something specific he needs it for, you're probably better off getting him a cheap 7" Android tablet as a starter. That way if manages to drop it and break it, or in a couple of months time he hardly ever uses it, it's not a huge amount of money down the drain.

On the other hand if he really gets into using it and in a year or so it conks out or it just isn't keeping up, the iPad mini buying frenzy should have died down and you can get one for reasonable money. Or if he likes the way Android works, one of the better branded ones (Samsung Galaxy or Google Nexus maybe?).

Oh it's exciting innit! It's like the plot of a movie - will NLA overcome the hilarious hurdles and unintended consequences put in his way and then beat off the competition in his quest to bring a beaming smile to his boys face come Christmas morning.

...or will he fail and be reduced to solemnly wrapping up the last remaining Amstrad PC from Comets knowing his boy will forever remember Xmas 2012 as the year he found out his dad wasn't really all that...

Was just in Currys/pc world and showed the guy my phone saying you are showing them in stock he said yep it makes people come into store and we can try to sell you the alternative products

I went through all this when the Nintendo Wii came out, ended getting one on eBay from a very nice couple near Portsmouth!!!

This Christmas we have given the Wii away to someone else in the family as my kids no longer play with it.

At the time i remember how stressed I became and thought was it all worth it?

Good luck in your search NLA , I went to the Apple shop in Bluewater in November, they had zero IPad minis in stock, the kind lady in the shop told me to order one on the Apple website, they took 2 weeks to deliver it, might not make it for Christmas Day if ordered now , but it's a thought.
