Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins has been remanded in custody after appearing at Cardiff magistrate’s court to face child sex abuse allegations.
The Welsh rock star, whose band has sold over 3.5 million albums, is alleged to have conspired with a woman to rape a one-year-old girl, the court heard.
He also stands accused of two incidents of conspiring to engage in sexual touching with two young children; possessing, making and distributing indecent images; and possessing “extreme” animal pornography.
The conspiracy charges related to a period between May 1 and Monday, while the indecent images related to a period between August 12 and Monday.
Defending barrister Tom Crowther said his client would be denying the charges.
Presiding magistrate Alan Knight opted to remand Watkins - along with two women aged 20 and 24 - into custody.
The women, who face similar child sex allegations, cannot be named for legal reasons. All three will appear before Cardiff Crown Court on December 31.
It's so confusing though - this is a decent looking lad in his thirties who is probably adored by 99% of all birds that go and watch him live, of which there are a hell of a lot of (they've headlined Reading Festival a couple of times I think).
Not a big fan of the cliche, but "he could have anyone he wanted" springs to mind. Really don't get it.
I'm sure if he could "choose" he'd be attracted to overage birds, but this sort of thing is a mental disease and I highly doubt there's a cure for it.
Even if this is the case he had the choice whether to follow through with his actions or not.

Absolutely but Tom's initial query was why he'd not just go after the groupie/fan type.
Too horrible to contemplate. If found guilty he should never be let out. And offered no segregation in prison. Then he will understand what it is like to be defenceless in the face of unbelievable abuse.
I stand corrected. I just read the news report and if it is true he should be given the toughest sentence possible. Truly disturbing and why any person would get gratification out of such a vile, horrific act is beyond me.

I don't know but it could be that the two woman had some sort of care/responsibility for the child. In which case naming them might identify the child.
But as I say I don't know.

With him being kind of a celebrity I think they thought it would help in getting people to come forward on the matter.
Still seems a bit harsh , does the judge have to allow for him to be named or is there a presumption that all adults can be named unless there's a good reason not to ?
