George Curtis [ anyone remember ]? Bobby Moore, Kevin Phillips and Tony Currie.

What you like George Curtis? Do you remember when he stuck Matt Tees into row F of the stand.

Has there ever been a greater over hyped, over rated, over paid player than Beckham?

    Fixed

Thanks for that, good job his free kick against Greece didn't get us to the Euros!
    Apt user name.
  • Henry
    Zidane
    Xavi
    Messi
    Iniesta
    Giggs
Hazard (shame he joined that heap of a club)
  • One of the best centre forwards ever............ the one and only Marco Van Basten, quality
  • Nigel Batch Grimsby keeper for me, and Kevin Phillips nice to hear him clapped off on Saturday, great movement and reading of the game I thought
  • Berkamp , Van Basten , Gullit , Messi , Matheus , Henry , Gascoinge , Maradona , Socrates , Hagi , Boniek , Laudraup.
  • Good call by Brunello - Frank Worthington
  • always used to love watching Zola play.

the Brazil team from the 1982 world cup were my favourite ever, even though they didn't win it.

Certainly do. Watched him several times, one of the toughest players ever to walk on a pitch.
  • Remember Mr Curtis about to take a throw-in by the cornerflag between the Jimmy Seed & the West stands, as He put the ball back behind his head to throw someone grabbed it: Mr Curtis wasn't happy.......

I would've loved to have watched Brian Clough in his goal scoring prime.

And by the time I saw Bobby Moore and George Best, they played for Fulham in the 2nd Division.

    Rivaldo
    Romario
Messi - already my all time favorite player on the world scene. I watch as many Barcelona games as possible just to see him.
    David Beckham
  • Dennis Bergkamp and Eric Cantona. Both could create magic out of nothing.
  • Cantona
    George Best
    Gerrard
  • far far too many to pick out one or two .. I'll restrict myself to CURRENT champ players:
    Koren .. Hull
    Austin .. Burnley
    Wood .. Leicester
    Morgan .. Leicester
    Dawson .. Barnsley
These are 5 players I'd love to see at the vallley. AND as for G Curtis @masicat .. Kent born ex miner, tougher than tough, hard as teak .. Once dived head first, full tilt into a goalpost in a game v Coventry @ the valley .. the post would still be shaking if it had been left in the ground .. G C got up, shook his head and trotted back to his defensive position .. Tough? Hard ? ... toss up between him & Frank Haydock

I think this game was 1967, possibly the game before they were promoted and spend 40 odd years in the top flight.

You're right and it must have been the same game as the oft quoted assault on Matt Tees, which was not unusual if I remember. In the good ol days, it was de rigueur for defenders to assault forwards in this manner. I'm amazed so many 'strikers' survived the ordeals and have lived to a ripe old age.. As you say Coventry was one of the longest serving top division clubs and suddenly they nosedived. First club to have an all seater stadium, and the first professional club to employ the exteremely formidable George Curtis. And of course all the success was engendered by the legend who is Jimmy Hill.
  • Jimmy Greaves, similar to Suarez but without the diving. Gazza. Henri for skill.
  • Karen Bardsley...has the gracefulness of an antelope, and top goalie too!

I think we lost 2-1 or 3-1 our scorer Cliff Myers , have no idea why this has stuck in my mind
  • Brooking, Keegan, Francis (T), Robson, Hoddle, Worthington, Shilton, Mark Hughes, Bergkamp.

  • RVP bit of an arsehole on the pitch on occassions but I love his natural ability
  • RVP bit of an arsehole on the pitch on occassions but I love his natural ability

I agree, Portugese Ronaldo is similar. As a person, he seems arrogant, narcissitic, selfish... on the pitch, he is sublime.

I think you could substitute a number of names into that quote! That's footballers.

  • Way, way too many to name but from the past Jimmy Greaves the best goal taker this country has ever produced, Bobby Moore for all sorts of reasons and George Best who is still the best all round player I have watched on a British football pitch (live that is).

From today Messi because he has everything and Vincent Kompany a great professional, captain and seems like a really good guys as well.

Sign of 'the age' .. I can recall a few games from 45 years or more ago quite clearly. Some games I've seen this season I can't remember a thing
  • Paul Rogers of Wigan Athletic.

Not sure if you mean Ronaldo is selfish as a person...but I believe he does a huge amount of charity stuff.
  • Jimmy Greaves

My favourite when a lad was Alan Gilzean. Looked like a grandad but was sublime with his flicked headers and general support play for Greaves. The G men, class.

I have no idea why this game sticks in my memory. We were 2-0 down, I think, Cliff Myers in-off a post made it 2-1. I am trying to remember some of the other Coventry players - Gibson and Machin come to mind - small tigerish midfielders. Ronnie Rees on the wing, Bobby Gould up front.....I'll remember more if I try hard - can't remember whether Dietmar Bruck was in that side or not.
