The Youth Team when I was growing up

You are right, he was a class act. I bet Gliksten was thinking lovely, more money in the bank.gilbertfilbert said:Anyone else remember Alan Ellis. Looked a class player, if lightweight, but disappeared after a few games. What happened to him?
Got badly injured very early in his career and that was about it.
I think he made his debut with Shipperley. Not sure.

Yes. Definitely made debut with Shipps. Quite a contrast in size and style between the two!1

Don't think that's our Dean Chandler. If it is then it looks like he's had a pretty tough life considering he's only 39: http://www.chandlerrubbish.co.uk/Vincenzo said:
It was Dean Chandler - Rubbish Clearance as I remember.sirjohnhumphrey said:On a road in Eltham I passed two rubbish collection vans. The company name on the side of each van was 'Dean Chandler Waste Removal' or something similar. Had Charlton stickers on the windscreen.

Didnt we have another Andy Gray back in the mid 90's? Think he was a full back - but not sure he featured in the first team.0

You clearly haven't seen the Olympic Stadium thread and the questions put to the dynamic duo that is @gavros and @GermanEastEnderAshBurton said:
At 31 months, probably a Charlton Life record for the longest ever wait for an answer to a question?supaclive said:
Yes! Spooky just saw this question @Fanny FanackapanFanny Fanackapan said:
Was her brother called Scott , supaclive ?supaclive said:Paul Sturgess was in the year above me at Swanley Standard and so we played a few times together. He left Millwall and ended up in places like Hereford and Gravesend & Northfleet. He also married my first ever girlfriend, had two kids with her and they divorced about five years ago.

Saw Dean Chandler score at Reading away and didn't he get done for taking drugs?0
-
Dean Chandler is a site manager for a large Essex based construction company. He tells anyone that will listen that he is an ex West Ham pro, he is obviously still smoking good s**t if he thinks he is ex West Ham2
-
Yep. Last game of the season, on the telly at Elm Park. Lost 2-1.killer kish said:Saw Dean Chandler score at Reading away and didn't he get done for taking drugs?
Him and Bowyer got caught for smoking weed.0 -
Does that make them a pair of dopes.4

And Dulwich Hamletthai malaysia addick said:0 -
He was offered a contract with us but emigrated to Canada with a girl, broke up and came home within a few months. He called curbs and asked if he could sign the contract and was polite told no! He ended up being an extra on dream team0
-
Remember Geoff Thomas and Paul Murray, they used to come up to Charlton Park some Sundays and have a kick about with us, Geoff used to live down Charlton Lane, Paul Murray was Irish if i remember correctly.0
-
Long way back, Henry Laville was highly rated, Paul Walsh told a mate of ours that he was harder to play against than the first teamers. He seemed to be released after a couple of years and then disappeared.1

Billy Eyles…..full back, mid 60’s.
Featured for the reserves a few times…..liked to go clubbing and staying out to all hours….unfortunately for him he got found out and fell foul of club standards of behaviour, which was pretty strict at that time.0 -
He did. He was an unused sub in the away game at Shithurst Park in our promotion season when Paul Kitson scored the only goal. I met Steve after the game, but alas he never made an appearance for us.stop_shouting said:Steve barbe! Made his debut in a reserve or pre season match but we were so keen to conceal his identity, we made up a false name. Think he may have even made the bench for the first team.0 -
Hopefully not our Vinny.0 -
No, a 31yr old from Coventry0

Some friends of mine recently visited a market in Stow-on-the-wold and and bought me the official Charlton handbook from 69/70. On the inside cover it says £4 - hope they didn't pay that cos it was only two bob new!
The Apprentices are listed as:-
Obviously Dave Shipperley sticks out as his enormous frame used to on the pitch. I also recall Vince O'Kane playing a couple of games. He seemed very skilful to me, but faded out of the game pretty quickly after leaving Charlton. The only other nane that rings a bell is Norman Fusco who played on in non league football.1 -
Keith Hayward was a decent keeper and Alan Ellis was a small tricky inside forward, who never fulfilled his early promise. Michael Corbett rings a bell (I don’t mean he’s a campanologist) but I think he was a full back. William Eyles is just a name I remember. As for Vince O’Kane, I recall him getting sent off at Southend. I can’t remember if won 1-0 or drew 1-1.0
-
Sadly I think Michael Corbett died during his time in the youth team. I remember a short tribute in a match programme0
-
Norman Fusco played for Margate (Thanet United as they became for a short while) too as he was local to there. He also spent time at Folkestone.
A brother in law of mine was involved at Margate so I met Norman through him. Norman spoke fondly of his time with Charlton.0 -
Keith Haywood is a regular face at the golf days associated with the club too.thai malaysia addick said:Keith Hayward was a decent keeper and Alan Ellis was a small tricky inside forward, who never fulfilled his early promise. That's one of the most common Vietnamese surames. I had a call with Vietnam for work a couple of weeks back and all three people were called Nguyen. There were also four kids in my class in primary school with that name 😊buckshee said:
