Jackson wouldn't be playing as a winger, but as a left-side midfielder, coming inside to help when needed, with Wiggins given carte blanche to overlap. Jackson has played effectively in that position before many times. Green made a very good cameo appearance against Burnley and deserves a start.

In recent times, say the last year, Jackson has not performed well in the left-sided role. His lack of pace and constant desire to drift into the middle leaves our left back unprotected and also means that any pace the opposition has on their right side can easily bypass our entire midfield. SCP said recently that JJ would never play on the left again.

All makes sense except for his age. Is he really a prospect for next season whe n he'll be 36?

    This is a good point.
The whole situation reminds me of when we loaned Micheal Stewart.
Good passer, but that was it..oh and he was old too.

I suppose it would be a bit harsh to drop Harriott at this point. Bring him in for...well, Jackson would be my choice to go, but he's the captain. Really want to see a Gower/Pritchard CM and Green given a go.

He won't be 35 until next October, so he won't reach 36 until the following season by which time we'll be in the PL and able to sign someone really decent :-)

Ryan Giggs and Kevin Phillips are both 39 and I don't think anybody would be complaining had we signed them. Sometimes age isn't an issue!

Ryan Giggs and Kevin Philipps are far better players at 39 than Gower was at any time in his career in my opinion.

Age isn't always the issue bu them 2 players are an exception.

Has anybody seen enough of Gower to comment on how good he is?

Doesn't sound like he'll start games just yet.

Well he better get his finger out cos we only have 9 games left!
I think it's more both of us having a look at eachother to see if either of us fancy turning this into a permanent deal.

Happy enough with this. Decent player, creates chances (something we really struggle with) and seems far from the usual footballing timewaster most of our loanees have turned out to be. A bit on the 'veteran' side, but still good enough at this level. Wouldn't mind him signing on for next season either to give us a bit of leadership in the dressing room.

Everytime we get a new player in he is rubbished by a number of posters on here.He is either too small, too old, doesn't score enough,he has played for Barnet and Southend so he must be crap, blah blah blah.FFS give him and other signings a chance before he is rubbished.Mini rant over.

I've seen him down the years. I'm not saying I'm an expert and haven't seen him in a while. Until we were linked with him I had completely forgotten about him.

I'm not saying it's a bad signing but just not that bothered we've signed a 34 year old midfielder like I would if we signed a 39 year old giggs or phillips. I'm not stating my opinion as fact.

Happy with this signing. He will add quality to an acknowledged weak area of the squad. I think he will come off the bench on Saturday but will go on to make a good contribution to us cementing a mid-table position this season. Depending on how he does, and how much money we have in the kitty for signings in the summer, he may then get a one year contract but obviously not one for the longer term at his age.

Welcome Mark. Well tipped Sir NLA.

Like this. The only concern I've got is Pritch's turn as a rabbit stuck in headlights during our last local derby. Wonder if we need a more experienced head to do the running. In a Hughesless world I'm not sure who that is. Think Wilson has played there. Stevens looks better when he sits deep, but not sure he's got the mobility.

Not over keen on Haynes wide right, far more effective down the middle. Take Pritch out put Waggy in for his energy and go 4-4-2.
  • I wouldnt be surprised if he doesnt start tbh , i dont know anything on this at all but just based on how scp manages his squad

Stephens can play DM I don't see why they can't play together. Admittedly it would work better in a 5 man midfield.

Not sure exactly how match fit Gower is either, wouldn't want to throw him straight in if he's a touch off the pace.
  • I dont think we can underestimate what a ball retaining, passing central midfielder can do for the remainder of our season. So often we cannot retain possession and this invites pressure. Having someone wanting the ball in midfield instead of treating it like a hot potato will do us a world of good. Very pleased with this signing.

Hopefully it means Powell can play a central midfield three, without the five in midfield playing too flat. Haven't seen Gower play enough, vaguely remember him at Southend with Maher, but he's earnt positive reviews at Swansea and we need someone who controls the team in midfield 4 or 5.

I'd be happy for Haynes to play inside right, with Jackson a little deeper as an inside left. It would be a very compact midfield, with Haynes and Wilson/Pritchard providing the energy to expand the pitch along with the full backs.

Happy with this. We've tried everything else on loan that hasn't worked (hulse aside) so why not try some old boy who doesn't play anymore. Good luck fella, you'll need it.

What a crass comment. He is not quite good enough to get into the Swansea side. But you dismiss him as some old boy who doesn't play anymore.

Played once as a sub this season. I think my description is fairly accurate, don't you? I struggle with these type of signings.
