As a lot of people think he's the greatest player ever, you're correct.
Don't get me wrong, he was world class and I can't think of a better crosser, which is a very big deal, but he's not the best ever English player in that position, Stanley Matthews was. Likewise Man Utd had better players in their midfield than him.
He comes across as a top guy who has taken advantage of the media, with his wife, to give his family a fantatic life style.
A great ambassador for the game. He conducted himself in such a professional manor following his moment of silliness at the 98 World Cup and silenced all his critics. He led his country with great professionalism.
An absolute living legend. One i was proud to be able to say i played against.

Give it a rest ! You aint got a clue what your talking about. Here we go again - some people just cant help themselves can they no matter what. Give me 11 David Beckhams anytime than the John Terry's, Ashley Coles, Rio Ferdinand's etc.....Legend - FACT...End of....
I think you're the one searching for a Scooby.
Take away his good looks and "brand beckham" and he would of been forgotten years ago. The players you mentioned have won as many international medals as he did.

He posted on his FB page 7 mins ago, already 3,00 comments and 46,000 likes. His quote is as follows:
"I'm thankful to PSG for giving me the opportunity to continue but I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level. If you had told me as a young boy I would have played for and won trophies with my boyhood club Manchester United, proudly captained and played for my country over one hundred times and lined up for some of the biggest clubs in the world, I would have told you it was a fantasy. I'm fortunate to have realised those dreams.
To this day, one of my proudest achievements is captaining my country. I knew every time I wore the Three Lions shirt, I was not only following in a long line of great players, I was also representing every fan that cared passionately about their country. I'm honoured to represent England both on and off the pitch.
I wouldn't have achieved what I have done today without my family. I'm grateful for my parents' sacrifice, which made me realise my dreams. I owe everything to Victoria and the kids, who have given me the inspiration and support to play at the highest level for such a long period. I also want to thank Simon Fuller and his team for their continued support.
I want to thank all my team-mates, the great managers that I had the pleasure of learning from. I also want to thank the fans who have all supported me and given me the strength to succeed.
It always makes me laugh that people say puskas , Cryuff etc

No. The likes of Puskas and Cruyff were among the most influential footballers in the history of the game, they changed the way people thought about and / or played the game.
It's called an opinion so disagree by all means but don't just say "no". He was one of the most influential footballers - look at how the game has moved on from a sport to a business from sportsmen to celebrities and Beckham has been pivotal to that.
I deliberately chose "influential" and not "best" because I don't think his influence can be denied - whether people like it or not.
Reread the post, as I didn't just say no. I went on to give an example of players that I felt were influential and why I felt that they were.
I agree that the game has become more of a business than it used to be. But did Beckham cause this or was he a very visible beneficiary of it or is the truth somewhere in between?
You can also add to your argument, the fact that possibly more people are playing / interested in the game (particularly in the East) due to him. Although it's hard to prove whether this is in part attributable to him or not.
I don't mind whether he is considered influential or not. I just disagreed with your assertion that he was "One of the most influential footballers in the history of the game". That is only my opinion and not a fact.

A good player will always be a good player regardless of the era.

Great player both for club and country, took genuine pride in what he did, great example to young players and seems a genuinely nice man. Hes made a fortune so now its time to enjoy it. Oh and by the way he has a great name as well!
