On a similar theme, how long after making a speed camera flash has anybody received the paperwork for the speeding fine/points? How long until I'm in the clear?
Most speed cameras haven't flashed for years. On the M25 there are average speed cameras which work with the variable speed sections.

Average speed cameras don’t flash, normal speed cameras do, you can see them going off on the other side of the road.
Has anyone on here had a ticket for speeding on the M25 from average or flash cameras, say in the last 2 years? I'm often overtaken when doing 70 myself and have possibly contravened average limits but never had a ticket so far.

I believe that cameras are in operation when there is a reduced limit, unless you’re going like a rocket. A few of the lads where I used to work, have had tickets coming over the bridge.

One of my colleagues got caught doing 71mph near Clacket Lane, she had to do an online speed awareness course.

She wouldn’t get a ticket for 71 in a 70, there must have been a speed reduction in force at the time. Normally the cameras are set at the speed shown plus 10% plus 1 mph. This is because car speedometer are not calibrated to that degree of accuracy. In old police cars, they used to have a calibration speedometer as an extra.
There was some urban B/S of the crossing company exercising leniency with 'first time offenders' but that was nonsense. More likely the ANPR was unclear/faulty or obscured by vehicles changing lanes and obscuring the shot.
I have twice (2 different cars at 2 different addresses) had a letter from them having forgotten to pay telling me they were letting me off as it was the first time that car had crossed but warning that next time I would be fined this was unprompted, not after getting a fine and appealing it

I did about a year ago. No restriction in place. I hadn't driven there for a while and assumed they weren't working. Now drive it regularly (through Essex) so stick to 75 to 77 and am fine But there is a long stretch of 50 herts to Essex...stick to 55 and below for that!
