it really is a silly amount of money .. and real Madrid is not even owned by a moneybags sheikh .. well not that we know about
I guess that many Spaniards will put up with being unemployed and living in poor conditions so long as a few of their football teams are doing OK
Over 20k turned up to watch him sign today
That explains the financial situation right there. Idiots.
It's a symptom of being the most well oiled commercial football machine on the planet where their turnover is the biggest even without Sky millions and they arrange cavalcades with motorcycle escorts to bring in new signings and break their own world records... I find it quite impressive that they can get more in the ground for this than we can to watch a classic like CAFC vs Leicester.
Quite how they sold their training ground to the council for €100M and then leased it back is another story
I'm not convinced that the new world record player will be pulling up too many trees out there. Standing out at Spurs is one thing, standing out at Real Madrid and being a game changer in the Champions League are two different things. Gareth Bale is no Ronaldo!

I'm not sure, I watch quite a lot of Spanish football and some of the teams outside the top 6/7 are pretty terrible and the teams near the very bottom of the league would probably lose to Charlton.
I'm not sure he's as good as some of the "Galacticos" who've been bought in the past and the weight of expectation is huge but I think that he has a very direct style of football which complements how Real play and with significantly better players around him than at Spurs he should do well.
I cant wait for the first 100million pound Player can you imagine how good he will be
with the new FFP rules I wonder if Bale's transfer record will be broken?
as far as I can work out (doing little research) that if lets say Chelsea bought a player in a couple of years time at 100 mil. then as long as abramovich paid straight from his pocket and not ask for any money back from Chelsea or anybody else, so it's as if he bought them a gift, then they're allowed to do that.

And yet they still manage to lose millions every single year. Extraordinary.
Yes they're in debt, but they still make a profit so i'd assume it's quite manageable. Their income is ridiculous!
"The world’s richest club says it earned €514 million last season — up from a record €480 million the previous year — for a net gain of €24 million. That represents a net drop of over €7 million from last season when it won the Spanish league.
Madrid says its net debt dropped from €169.7 million to €124.7 million as it comes in line with UEFA’s financial fair play requirements."
there were barely any challenges but he did make it look so so easy. The gap between the top 3 and the rest in that League is huge. Fair play to Athletico, doing the business, be great to see them hold on for the title.
Fantastic goal by Bale last night to win the Copa Del Rey.
I thought Spurs did some really good business selling Bale for £85 million pre-season. The problem is that their Chairman, whilst very good at getting top price for Bale, then wasted £93m on Paulinho, Chadli, Soldado, Capoue, Chiriches and Lamela. They will be lucky to get a third of that back when they try to sell them in the next 12 months.

First thread on CL to make me angry.

It was early afternoon there though wasn't it? The spanish don't do much work then anyway.

Add 151mil sposorship and £102mil gate.
They also sold Higuin for £32mil and Ozil for £42mil = £74mil.
They did spend 50m of that buying Isco and Illaramendi though
Morata puts Madrid 5-0 up with a beauty
