The male female thing is not a simple thing is it? A lotof men would not like it if another man said directly to them 'I think your mother is well shaggable', or their daughter, sister, auntie, their grandmothers. Would men like other men to say their daughters have a great rack or something? However it is probably a necessary biological thing for men and women to find each other sexually desirable, although women seem to find men sexy not only because of their bodies. It may be better if a woman commented on this type of thing.
I respect your views, Seth. I think the crucial factor is that no-one is offended. "Your daughter is well shaggable" said to the father would be offensive, but said privately between friends harms nobody. It is certainly a necessary biological characteristic for men and women to find each other sexually desirable, more than 'probably' as you assert! And I think you may be underestimating men generally: I for one look for far more than the physical attributes in women: intellect, humour, manner, disposition....
I agree with you nolly in as much as ALL travellers are seemingly tarred with the same brush on threads like this on CL, something which would be challenged if other ethnic groups had the same treatment. We are also in danger of promoting a lot of sexism on this site what with most women being judged regarding their sexual worthiness whatever else is said about them. Something that we don't really do when talking about men like 'Cameron Stewart, would ya?'. Maybe we will never be able to do anything about the hatred of ethnic minorities, and some men's propensity to judge women only on how sexy they find them.
I know this is a thorny issue. I like to think I'm a liberal man, ideologically opposed to racism and sexism in any form. However, I'm able to join in the banter of 'Would Ya?' and 'Whose Rack?', knowing that the women concerned are unaware of our schoolboy jokes. Does this make me a hypocrite? Maybe. Jokes about other races, however, make me distinctly uneasy; for example, I find our very own Jim Davidson unfunny and mildly offensive.
Well the next time we get a complaining / threatening correspondence from the subject of a would ya, we'll point it in your direction to deal with.
Seriously, AFKA: Have you had a complaint from a subject of 'Would Ya?' Who was it, and how did she see it on CL?
if people really complain about would ya and whos rack the world is insane
I doubt that people complain about the idea of a Would Ya thread, but probably some of the more base and descriptive suggestions of what some posters would like to do to that particular person.
Imagine if you were that person (or a family member) reading that some smelly oaf wants to bend me over etc etc. Id be horrified!
Yeah. It is something that has gone on for so long. However there are degrees regarding the gender thing, and also adjustments that can be made. We are shocked that a teenage girl is shot in the head for promoting female education, or that girl babies are aborted because they are girls, and we think that is going too far. Yet we say to ourselves 'THEY go too far, but WE'RE ok, because it is a bit of fun/banter the things we do and say'.The world has no hard and fast rules about this kind of stuff, and often we say to ourselves that our sexism is nicer than their sexism. I am not saying I have any answers, especially as i am a bloke, and my head can be turned as easily as any other bloke, maybe women don't mind any of it.

Yes. We've received complaints / threats about lots of things. Because of the amount of traffic the site gets, it generates highly in search rankings.
People google themselves. If you read some of the things in isolation with no knowledge it is 'a bit of fun', it can look pretty nasty sometimes.

Yes, point taken, AFKA. I too have noticed that CL features prominently on search engines, which is gratifying because I think most of the discussions are intelligent and knowledgeable. Just look at the high standard of discussion about the England set-up and club academies, in full swing right now. CL is both entertaining and informative, and it behoves us to consider the sensibilities of non-members and casual viewers.
Yes let me turn on the Tv without some bollox programm promotting "traveller culture" -----i wish some of the f++kin knobs that make those programs went to school with them --the poor mis-understood theiving, mugging RACIST lumps of shit.

I've said all I can last year on the thread about the Dale Farm evictions. The only thing I will say is that i have met, and worked with travelers of all kinds, some of whom are vile, some of whom are lovely, and there is danger lying underneath tarring everybody with the same brush. Best to be careful or what goes round may well come round.
No offence PM but I lived and went to school there as a child and it saddens me to see how run down the High St and surrounding areas have become over the last 50 years. My grandparents would be turning in their graves if they could see it now. Plumstead Common / Welling border or the Abbey Wood end is better.
GIPSIES who set up camp in Bexley Village have this afternoon been forced out by police.
News Shopper understands six caravans arrived in Thanet Road car park behind Freemantle Hall and the King’s Head pub at around 4pm yesterday.
Police moved in at around 1.30pm.
James Brokenshire, MP for Bexley and Old Sidcup, tweeted: “Have been advised by the Police that the travellers in #Bexley Village have been moved on. Council contractors are clearing up the site.”
As I understand it, they weren't even there for 24 hours - did it need contractors to clear the site after such a short space of time? I guess so.

No offence taken at all! I also used to live and go to school there (when I started supporting Charlton) and yeah, although it was never the poshest place to live, the high street area (as you've said) looks a lot worse than it did. Up the common looks pretty much like I remember it, except The Albert pub has gone. Anyway, I'd imagine those friendly travelling folk are heading back to Erith, where I now live! Riding around in their horse and traps.
Are you talking about the one overlooking the slade? I've never been in there. I remember as a kid hearing a story that a bloke was attacked with an axe outside that place and the landlord refused to call the police. So i always had it down as a place perhaps to avoid! That said I'm sure it's a chinese restuarant now.

And for those unaware, she wasn't just his girlfriend, she was a famous pop star at the time.
Check your window locks folks...
