Before undertaking his football career that spanned three decades Dowie earned a Masters in Engineering from the University of Hertfordshire. I didn't know that. Why did he choose to play football rather than work in a field related to what he learned in the university? Not that the disaster that is the 2006/07 season would not have happened at all but I just can't help wondering how things wound have been if we had never appointed him....

We would have perhaps appointed Billy Davies? I can't remember exactly at the time who the other odds on favs were. Murray was smitten for dowie after discovering the man that's mastered the sacred art of PowerPoint presentations....and the stupid Simon Jordon fued.
We would have still got relegated from the premier league regardless at some point in between then and the present day.
Would probably have had quite a big butterfly affect trail.....one that maybe meant we never knew Roland Dutchatalet existed.

Is this a good time to point out that that's what Roland did????
He had a terrible habit of saying "listen". He came across very well and I enjoyed watching this. Undr The Cosh is very good btw. Two things, Dowie does not have much time for our new mate Mr Jordan, it seems that Jordan has a big ego. Dowie was also admitted he made a "couple of mstakes, which I won't go into". Tbf he did not lay into Charlton.
I played golf with him on a Portugal trip a few years back and he was good banter , he admitted his time at Charlton wasn’t great but wouldn’t say a bad word against the club and was adamant Les Reed stuck the knife in . He’s got a lot of chat and is a good orator . Hates Pardew as well
Quite a hard watch as he tends to say not a lot whilst thinking about what to say next, and subsequently doesn't say anything. This is a common trait in errrrr, intelligent peo...
Honest in the short section about Charlton - hates Jordan and clearly disliked and dislikes Reed.
Ian Dowie was a bad fit for Charlton, but Murray still panicked and should've given him time to work with the big money signings he brought in (I know some weren't great)
Many football folk are good company when not in the cut throat world of football Politics and where results determine if your good or bad at your job. (Injuries, budgets, bad referee decisions, players not blending can be out of your hands)

Charlton need bouncebackability.
Murray’s ego was hurt when curbs wouldn’t sign a new contract. He thought it best to replace him immediately rather than wait a year. Tv money was coming in and we’d/he’d have been a lot better off letting curbs keep us up again.

Iain Dowie is with us this week, talking through his playing career at Luton, #CrystalPalace and #WestHam before moving into management at Crystal Palace, #Charlton, QPR, and Newcastle.

Changed my opinion on him.
'Pace and zip' I always remember him saying when speaking about how to score.
