Country Music

Anyone like Country music?

The genre is not as big as it is in the UK but it's massive in America, think you will find it's still one of the biggest genres in America.

This one is my favourite but its unknown in the UK.

  • BBC4 had a "Country at the BBC" show on Friday night. Will still be on iplayer.

Some rubbish like Garth Brooks but I love the story songs.

Elvis was country meets blues, the Band were country meets rock and rock meets folk meets bluegrass, Dylan did country. Roots music

  • Country isn't Country anymore is it? I mean, Taylor Swift is country isn't she?
  • Was brought up on a diet of Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard and Glenn Campbell so there is something implanted in my head.
  • I can't tell where the line is between folk, country, bluegrass... What ever Garth Brooks is is the wrong side of the line into "shit" territory
  • Can't stand the Eagles
  • Take it easy Rob,

Those of you with a taste for the good old country and I love it (Jones/Cash/Snow/Wagoner etc) should check out Daniel Romano - as good as it gets these days.

  • Hank Williams still remains one of my favourite artists, as do Flatt and Scruggs. Faron Young, The Maddox brothers and Rose, Bill Monroe, Buck Owens, Patsy Cline and Bob Wills are all worth checking out from the golden era. A couple of slightly more modern artists I like are Dwight Yoakum and The O'Kanes.
  • ladies and gentlemen Mr Conway Twitty...

Haha, when I was 9, I was in Nashville with parents. My Dad saw Conway Twitty get out of his motor-home and I had my photo taken with him. I guess it's around somewhere.

Music tastes are very strange & varied Algarve I have a friend who has every Neil young album but is always seeking out old material by Bob Wills & the Texas Playboys , I can remember when the country music channel was on sky ( 12-15years a go ? ) they played a video of Hal Ketchum playing a tribute in one of Bobs old Texas venues.
  • Gram Parsons and The Flying Burrito Brothers do it for me.
  • Also give The Hackensaw Boys a spin.
  • Carter family greatest hits are worth a listen. Gram Parsons cd is somewhere must dig it out again.
  • Brought up on Glen Campbell & Jonny Cash and of course these were my favourites!

You should check out Ryan Adams not conventional country but fabulous.

  • Here's Ryan with my favourite song.

  • Big fan of Ryan Adams.

Got into the whole Alt:country thing when I saw "come down from the mountain" the documentry film of the concert from the stars of "oh Brother where art thou".

That made me seek out the film of "oh brother" which is of course brilliant.
  • Gillian Welch is about as near as my taste gets to country. She's written some brilliant songs
