    Anyone picked up on this?

@PorterSLP: EXCLUSIVE @RichCawley story on involvement of trailblazing former Chelsea captain in the new #cafc - see tomorrow's South London Press

I guess Paul Elliott has a bigger role in the club now. He's at most games so must have been expecting something to crop up. Maybe he was involved in getting Roland to look at us?

    Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink ?

Was coaching at Forest and now managing in Belgium (Antwerp in 2nd division) so could be.
  • SLP says Paul Elliott in the frame to join the new look board..also good interview with Powell much like his interview yesterday and there is also a piece from Murray who says us fans should be happy with Duchatelet

    What's Frank Lebeouf

    Cousin of Frank Lebeef?

  • If its old Jimmy Boy, the club shop will be selling XXXL training shorts.
  • What about Elliott's treatment of a Charlton Legend, Richard Rufus?!! That was despicable and I am not sure if we should welcome him as he seem to be in this case a racist??
  • I'm sorry but in the black community they all use the n word all the time to each other, I don't see how that can be racist.
  • Extracts from the article - “I met with [Roland Duchatelet] personally last week and he has a vision and a plan for the football club and I like what I've heard.

“He's immersed in football in Belgium and with other clubs but he wants to make it a success here.”

"I think it's a real positive move for everyone. He's very respectful of the football club and supporters and he will listen to everyone. He has ideas and he wants to improve the club on and off the field, no doubt." - Chris Powell

If he's good enough for SCP, he's good enough for me.
  • Is there to be any kind of press conference involving Roland in the near future?

I thought there was talk of one early this week, but maybe that meant with CP not RD

Henry, I was partially joking there. Hasselbaink, a strong nominee for the worst signing at Charlton and for the player who moans most on the pitch.

I was deeply saddened because rufus is a saint in my eyes and cannot be wronged. but all this financial stuff with rufus in the states clouds the issue somewhat for me.

IMO, you cannot call a black man a racist for calling another black man a .... A bigot yes but not a racist
Why not? What if one is African and the other is West Indian? Or what about if one of them is very dark skinned and the other is very fair skinned?

And what if a black man called another black man a "choc ice" - is that not racist?
  • I don't believe for a minute that Paul Elliott is racist although whether he was right to use the N word in a message, private or otherwise and irrespective of his race, is very doubtful given his profile and the campaigns he associates himself with. As to whether he will make a good director of our club, who knows.
  • Had Elliott said that as a white man, yet of the same stature it would be deemed racist and never forgotten by the football and political media. Black people saying it to each other seems to be accepted relatively speaking. I've heard this language used in work places and social events for years. This alone by it's nature causes a divide and cause for argument, and I think highlights the difference between race and culture.
  • He shouldn't have used that word in my opinion but I doubt he is a racist any more than Ron Atkinson is.

The argument here was that he used the N word in anger rather than in a friendly, bantering, manner as is within the Black Community. That time It was not appropriate...
  • Yeah i agree with all of that SA.

If PE does come onto.the board formally....its a tricky one...does he ignore the fact that he has been reported as having said that to a CAFC legend or does he need to specifically address it by way of apology?
  • I thought he had already apologised, profusely as well as resigning his relevant posts. I think we either accept it or not, but wanting a multitude of apologies because Rufus is a legend seems a pointless exercise.

Best to be left in the past. People who want to bring it up have their own agendas.
  • Yeah i agree with that. Forgive and forget

anyone heard any more.about richard rufus and his reported problems? That really worried me, he was my footballing hero as a lad
