Looks like he sold Standard Liege after Sint Truiden got promoted because he wasn't allowed to own 2 x clubs in the Belgium Premier League. Ergo: he wasn't forced out by protests.
It depends on what your definition of the words 'own' and 'sold' are.
I've got alarm bells going off inside my head....I get a lot of free time here and spend much of it looking at and thinking about Charlton related things.
Any sensible owner would at this point be wondering how to prevent crowds from plummeting once we go back into League one and would be redoubling efforts to assure the fans that everything was being done to prepare a team capable of promotion back to the Championship whilst not ruling out the possibility of survival...we are getting nothing but half hearted attempts from the comms people mainly via FB.
I was on the fans forum back in its early stages when we got relegated before. The FF team we had back then put in a lot of effort and met a lot more often and without club employees in attendance all the time. We discussed how to boost season ticket revenue way before we were mathmatically down along with measures on how to keep people motivated to come to the Valley in League One along with other promotional things to encourage fan participation....nothing like the Fans Forum set up of today I hasten to add.
My point is this and Iam not advocating putting money anywhere near Douchebag and Co but I wonder if in cutting revenue we are in fact playing right into this clowns hands?
I'm absolutely certain he has ulterior motives for the way he is running the club into the ground...its a gut feeling but Im at an age now where I tend to trust my gut.
I have nothing concrete to support this but it just doesnt make sense and I dont buy into the crazy old senile git scenario...this bloke knows exactly what he is doing and the early reports from our Belgian cousins seem to back this up.
We now need to dig deep and find out what what his motives are before its too late. The only thing that makes sense is real estate...The Valley and Sparrows Lane make much more sense from a business mans point of view on making money and I know the latter is virtually untouchable, but he may have other plans for SL outside of football but still sports related. Food for thought.
I think RD wants to be one of a select group of people who own a UK club - and in our case a UK club in London. He's fault is that he's underestimated the strength of the UK Championship and consistently failed to seek advice from people he could trust. (Think for instance of all the French/Dutch/Belgian managers and players in the Premiership he could have put a call through to since 2014 and hasn't.)
Can we force him to sell? No. Might he sell if things carry on being unhappy on and off the field.......maybe, at some stage, but hard to predict, given his wealth, obstinacy and ambition, when or why. (He still has Carl Zeiss Jena, and they're in a section of German football roughly equivalent to our Conference).
Debates about the Valley and Sparrows Lane are, in my view, a bit of a red herring. If he did anything with either there'd be very protracted planning battles and he'd need to provide an alternative site somewhere in Greenwich.
It would be interesting to hear exactly who Varney is acting as middle man for, how much money they have and what their game plan is.
But - as he is the sole owner - we still can't make RD sell to them.
I can't believe that want to charge us to come back next season, Katrien don't you know when someone goes to a restaurant and doesn't like the food, they don't bother going back.
Wait for the tickets for a fiver initiatives next season, i think they'll be plenty of them.
Many thanks Dreke I have come to the conclusion that Roland collect football clubs the same as a stamp collector collects stamps and I suspect that he hopes to achieve success with one of his clubs, like a win on the pools.
However all his football clubs must run and be self sufficient and live within its means.
Promotion for Charlton would be a great achievement to Roland, two seasons on it is apparent that Charlton Athletic will be relegated this season.
We beat Leicester City three times in a row; then he sells our best no Yann Kermogant , our best no9 for 4 years, and his goals would kept us in the Championship.
Every fan is angry in the downward direction of the club. The club recruits players and the managers are sacked when team sinks down the league.
12 now - i had a beer with Dreke last weekend, and he no longer has a season ticket, and tells me STVV fans have all but given up now. Supporters harassed when they protest. All the stuff we are now seeing - we are prob 5 years behind them.
However, the Hotel/Shopping Centre/Businesses/Restaurants/Bars are all thriving.
No Chance of hotel shopping centre etc at the Valley wrong part of London. If you then talk about selling the ground for housing then he will make a loss on the money he has loaned to the club, no he owns for other reasons.

The make up of the entire area is going to be totally transformed over the next few years.
I still doubt any real commercial benefit in a development of The Valley to include shops, bars and restaurants but I'm not 100% certain.

I can see it happening quite easily. Right next to a station. 10 mins to The O2. Gentrification as more people pushed out of Zone 2.

RM is not Judas. He is Faust.
I'm more of an Ash Ra Tempel man

There is no one else to blame but himself.
"Marieke Höfte was born in 1957 in the Dutch Sittard. She studied Moral Sciences"
Clearly then she discovered a man with money instead...
Plenty of family to transfer clubs to.

Also note he says some see RD as saving the club. Seems to be a message he peddles everywhere he goes..
