Yeah a bit of fun and all that. Ha ha n stuff.
I would feel well pissed off if Katrien were my daughter/sister/wife/friend and in her new venture there was a constituency that only focussed on her gender, rather than focussed on whether she was going to do a good job as a capable person.
I would be pissed off it were my relative, and I confess to feeling embarrassed about the sexist and borderline misogynist stuff on here towards our new director.
Yeah I know political correctness gone mad, but some of the reaction really does lack class and is not saved by any humour.
I guess Katrien can fight her own battles, it is just wearisome that she may still have to be mindful of the lumpen attitude of some.

I think that's one of the things that makes it a difficult story for the club, but it doesn't change the fact - and it's a function of the fact - that there are few women in senior positions in English men's professional football - fewer than in business generally.

More generally, I wonder whether a Belgian lawyer is as well placed as an English lawyer to exercise her core professional expertise in England, albeit ability is clearly transferable. I don't know enough about the law to know though.

She was introduced to staff at The Valley as sporting director - I think it likely she is Roland Duchatelet's ear on the ground more generally. If so it's no surprise and perfectly reasonable he should want one, but the failure to use the title in the statement suggests they may be having second thoughts about the description.

It seems she was at Freshfields in the City when this was going on. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1100551/Wear-high-heels-embrace-feminity-Legal-firms-advice-female-lawyers.html
So I'm fairly sure she can cope with the likes of us!
  • Seth & co, let's not dramatize this too much, its a bit of initial pub style humour and nothing too ott.

With the likes of Delia and Karen Brady in the game for a long time, women working near the top of football clubs is nothing new and I'm sure there isn't a single person on that would feel whatever her role is it will b compromised by being female.

Not knowing what her role is is the main issue.
  • well done AFKA Cl was getting a bit "lads night out there"

PS do you think she shaves her arm pits ?
  • OK message received. I hope she does a blinding job though, whatever that may be.

I don't think anyone would disagree with this mate, just a few people on here having a Friday afternoon laugh.
  • Has she sorted out the potholes in the car park yet?
  • The point's been made and hopefully received by both sides of the schoolboy humour argument.

Can we please move on and have the conversation about what the hell a Sporting Directors job is exactly. If Minty is The Voice is she the power behind the throne and really there to implement RD's wishes and keep an eye on his investment or are we likely to have a more collaborative relationship at the top between the 'old' and the new? I'm hoping we'll find out more in the programme.

Yep - she's busy writing out a list of jobs for Chris Powell as we speak.

    Fix the Pot Holes
    New curtains in the boardroom
Fix the leaky shower head in the away changing room
New salt in the Canteen Dishwasher
Mend the fuse in the staff room kettle & while he is at it that microwave hasn't been cleaned in ages
The carpet has become a bit loose in her office, needs tacking down again
Her office chair is a bit squeaky, could do with some WD40

He's gonna be a busy man - don't expect any signings...

  • She's accepted me on linkedin as I deal in the law sector.

She studied law here, as well as time in Paris and, primarily, RD's old University too.

She worked for two of the largest US law firms in the world (one of which is a client of mine) and another major UK firm (Olswang) in Competition Law. Her English will be perfect and, whilst I don't put too much store by LinkedIn endorsements, she seems very well thought of. You need to be very good to work in the Firms mentioned and they would be dealing in major cross-border transactions in her specialist area of the law. I have no doubt that she could work here in her area, but that's not what she's here to do.

Very new to football, only joining Liege in September, but wouldn't be surprised if she had acted on transactions for RD at some stage before that. Very much the norm to move into the corporahat world that way for a lawyer.

    Good luck to her!
  • Shes pretty bloody lively on linkedin. Updated herself to charlton already and i speculatively attempted to connect with her and she added me within 10 minutes! Tasty.

Katrien Meire sounds like a smart person and well qualified for the job, (not sure what the specific job title is) but it seems likely to handle playing contracts. Hopefully now being in place for a few days already, some positive moves regarding contracts and some strengthening in essential playing area will take place next week or so.

Haha sod that mate its better than tinder. Can create opportunities with tasty birds all under the guise of it being a purely 'professional' linkup!
  • A contrast to Prothero who didn't even mention his CA connection on Linkedin
  • She sounds as sharp as a tack.

Must be good for the club.
