  • Either Standard Liege are extremely rich in talent, or these players are not going to be good enough to make an impact. If Charlton were top of the League and we allowed 3/4 of our best players to move to Standard Liege we would not be too happy about it. I haven't heard too many complaints from Liege fans as yet.
  • Perhaps it is because the manager loves the club so much, that he is unable to walk away.
  • Pritchard to Liege....you heard it here first.

im excited! why are we so worried with Dale and Yann we are in trouble and 22nd? , we have only sold 3 players not a mass clear out is it ? we are stronger for the long run, this is good for charlton we went on our great run last season WITHOUT dale in the 1st team, yes hes a good player but 700k for a player out of contract in 6 months and had 20 good games in a 3 year stay with us ? well done RD good business,

in RD I trust he is no mug, hopefully yes yann stays - great but if he goes then fair do's he has been offered a deal , but if we get a fee for a 32 year old with injury problems and out of contract in 6 months .. again good buisness.

I Support Charlton Athletic, that means i support CP AND RD - not Dale and Yann lets get behind them and get excited about what our club are doing, without RD i can assure you we would be in a far worse situation and wouldn't of got the money for Dale ben and possible Yann, we cant think our new players wont care? of course they will ? they are one divsion down from the big time and we are a club for them, im sure we will be okay, we are stronger then what we was v Doncaster

COYR lets get excited and move on

That's what it is. He loves Charlton.
  • The only problem I have with all these new signings (permanent & loans) is that they are all youngsters & have no real experience. If we were getting in 25/26 year olds from SL or wherever that have 200 games under their belts and are proven then no problem, but we are shipping out experience English League players for in-experience players who have never played in this country.

I feel that RD believes that we are doomed this season & is trying to cash in on any player with value (although Wiggy is an exception and I think he was offered a new contract as he is under 25)

As the Chinese used to say - may you live in interesting times.............

To be fair Yann is the only player we've let go that has played 200+ games, and most of those exiting have only played a handful of games.

We have plenty of experience in Morrison, Wood, Jackson, Wilson, Wiggins, Solly (when fit), Hughes and Church. I suspect that Reza has played a few games as well.

I'm not too worried about experience. Sure we would be better off with fewer new faces, but most teams have a few young players in their side - including those that win titles etc.

If we signed an England under 21 people would be very happy , and Belgium are prob better than England . I'll be pleased if it comes off . Think were gonna have a busy day.

    I like that logic !
    Ditto

    1. Belgium is quite rich in talent at the moment so it's not inconceivable they have some good players.
    2. They're a better side than us, so it's not inconceivable some of their reserves could improve us.
    3. Thuram and Gucci both (at least on paper) seem to be an improvement on what we currently have.
    4. How many Liege fans do you know?

Cisse seems like a great talent, he's only 20 years old, and does not seem to be a reserve player at Liege, having played quite many minutes for a big club for his age already

I don't know any. But some did post their views on here when the takeover happened. They were outraged before when RD sold their best players. I would love to know their views on the players coming our way. I can't believe that Liege reserve team players could be any better than what we already have. If they are first teamers, then the fans must surely be angry that their team is being ripped apart.

Who have we sold? Who's coming in? Is Powell still our manager?

    I'm completely lost!

@lexvarney: Charlton making lots of late moves in transfer market. Rumoured to have had bid accepted for Max Gradel. Would be a very good signing #cafc

Why would some Liege reserve team players not be any better than what we have? They are miles clear at the top of the Belgian league, we are in the relegation zone of the championship. You can't seriously tell me the iranian won't be better than Church and/or Sordell. Thuram has a decent pedigree in the french league which isn't a bad league either.
  • Will be well happy with Gradel. God knows we need a winger.

We should not forget that currently we are losing circa 7m a year and that this is not commercially viable.

Our best players lets not forget, are also likely to be our most highly paid.

Perhaps RD is just trying to get the club to live within its means and if he is as shrewd a businessman as we are lead to believe this may be the way it has to run.

I for one am excited about the future of our club and am not yet planning to slit my wrists over losing some players who have us sitting in the bottom three.

It may or may not work but let us not forget Liege fans were not endeared to RD selling their best players but are currently top of the league.

Max gradel. Imo this may well happen.
  • How about this for a fully fit side... (Of course leaving out Solly for now)

    Thuram
    Wilson - Morrison - Wood - Wiggins
    Gradel - Cousins - Jackson - Reza
    Parsley - Bakambu

    Bench - Hamer - Nego - Dervite - Ajdarevic - Hughes - Church - Sordell
  • Max gradel. Imo this may well happen.

QPR might have come in for him ... against them we stand no chance

    Is he Peter Varney's son?
  • Gradel will surely have better options than us
