Sidcup is wholly in LB Bexley, therefore administratively is in LONDON .. it's been discussed here before .. when the London boundaries were extended it was felt easier by those in control to allow (e.g.) Bromley, Beckenham, Sidcup to retain 'Kent' as a postal area, .. also it's good for the house seller .. County of Kent is much posher than sarf east lonnon innit .. that the postcode is DA is because Sidcup is served by Dartford postal sorting office
Would have thought a London postcode would put property prices up in comparison to a Kent postcode?
now then .. it depends on the postcode .. a Belgravia postcode would probably be more desirable than a Sidcup Kent postcode ... on t'other hand most Greater London/ Kent postcodes would be more desirable than (say) a Bethnal Green or New Cross postcode
You're out of date, Lincs - Bethnal Green is on the up. But New Cross is not.
I haven't set foot in the place for nine years after a three year gap and was disappointed to see how shabby the place looked. My old local looked pretty much the same but I stopped my reminiscing tour so it didn't ruin my happy memories of growing up there.
So when you swim up to the pool bar in your Benidorm hotel to order a San Miguel, and the big fat Brummie next to you goes "weeere ya from, maaaate", do you say "London" or "Kent" ?
I always say London.
To be honest, i don't really care. It should be London and Kent fighting to claim Sunny Sidcup, the Jewell of the Saff

Yep u are bang on always say london , but not in benidorm .
You think you've got it bad. Here in Norfolk, Thetford has an IP postocde but is very much Norfolk and 40 miles from Ipswich. Lowestoft has an NR postcode but is very much Suffolk and 30 miles from Norwich.
It was the old name of the London Transport Bus region that covered the area, I felt it was a good name to cover the compromise. I always felt part of London but also understood the there was a Kentish heritage. My main association with Kent has been my now inactive support of the Cricket team, mostly I have worked and socialised in Londonwhen I lived in Sidcup .
Places like Romford and Woodford in Essex / London have the same debate as Bromley and Sidcup and in the North and West of the city Middlesex does not exist anymore except as a post code and county cricket club.
I couldn't wait any longer. Under the London Government Act 1963 (which actually came into effect on 1st April 1965) Sidcup ceased to be in Kent and became part of the newly formed Greater London Borough of Bexley. Postcodes are for the Post Office and have nothing to with boundaries, borders, boroughs and Passport Control. The Borough of Greenwich which was formed under the same act and replaced the old London Borough of Woolwich was originally to be called The London Borough of Charlton. Charlton is indeed on the east side of London.
Having spent many years living in Sidcup in my younger days, the answer to your question is KENT. The old firestation on the main road would have Kent Firestation written on the walls of the building, you always addressed Sidcup Kent on letters.Where the by-pass A20 meets the main road in Sidcup you could access both roads when i was aboy. This is oppersite The Surdock sports ground on the A20. Two other points ther was asign saying Sidcup with the invictor horse above it at this point, and the Kent boarder begins at country gate Kent, while oppesite is Telford Road SE9. Eastend boy at heart but my roots are and always will be from Sidcup Kent.

Not sure what your definition of 'on the up' is but that phrase wouldnt do justice to the housing market in new x and youll pay a lot more in se14 (or se13 for that matter) than you would do for an equivalent place in sidcup, bexleyheath bromley or orpington...

Gotcha !
It took 5 hours, but there was never a doubt.
I had little doubt of the continuing importance of this question to Lifers.

There is currently a Nandos and M&S on Sevenoaks Way, but please don't associate that trouble lot with Sidcup !
Just saying

My Great Grandfather was born in Deptford Kent.

Personally, I couldn't give a shite :-)
Sidcup is definitely Kent
Croydon is definitely Surrey
Dagenham is definitely Essex
