Most are buying for other season ticket holders who are also friends & family because believe it or not people like to sit together. The club could however publish how many higher priced tickets it sold and that would tell us!
Do you honestly think anyone will pay attention to seat numbers? From my experience at away games, people just rock up and grab a seat anywhere they can/want.
As for the driving route, I personally would avoid the M1 like the plague (always some hold up going on there, whatever day or time it is). I quite regulary drive to Durham and always use the A1, which is much better these days since they've widened many parts and removed those stupid roundabouts outside Nottingham.............
Standing is more fun, agreed Tango. I hear you on the A1
I really hope I'm able to get one when (and if) it comes to general sale. Starting to think this whole "being at uni" business and not being able to have a season ticket anymore is going to scupper what looked like an awesome weekend together for my brother and I. But the ticket restrictions are fair, and should reward those with a season ticket. I just wish I knew a few more season ticket holders who could have got hold of a pair for the both of us. Here's hoping Monday comes and there's still a few floating around

Even if they did sell out before Monday ( which i doubt ) , there will always be spares floating around via Charlton Life next week. I wouldn't worry , you will get a ticket.
My son is in his second year away at Uni, but has been a season ticket holder all his life. Several of his Charlton supporting generation have also gone away, to places like Hull and Durham and Bristol. I have bought him his season tickets because I can only just afford to as he is a concession, and I wanted to keep his run going. It turns out that more often than not his seat is empty, or the occasional person will use it. I think that a lot of people when they become dispersed as students have problems with getting to games. For the most part it will be possible early season, and in holiday times and the odd other occasion. Many students have had to let their season tickets lapse after being full on supporters because of the price. My son is having to borrow £9k a year for Uni fees alone. Student Charlton fans, dispersed as they are, are true supporters. If there could be a 'student' season ticket available with something like a 10 match carnet it might be a good idea. The club could assume the seat was for sale for every match unless the student tells them about a week in advance they will be using their ticket. Maybe this is a bit of a daft idea.
Don't just presume that tickets are going to non deserving people when in fact we should all be congratulating our fans for selling so many tickets in two days.
Perhaps the issue of tickets for students is something the club should be looking into maybe under the guise of the improved experience consultation. I know that if we returned to the Prem it might not be feasible, but all the time the club is in the Champ or lower it shouldn't be too difficult to guarantee a seat. What about the following idea as a starter for ten to keep people in touch with the club and show a bit of good will:
For up to four years, issue student membership with a nominal charge, say £10 per season, which could be used to purchase regular tickets at half the adult price when the cardholder is back in town. This would count the same as a season ticket for cup ticket purchase priority. Perhaps it could also be used to buy a certain number of tickets at a reduced rate for away games that are closer to the University.
Both Stig's and SP's ideas are really good, and I like some of the thinking you have behind them. Having had a season ticket with just my brother since we were about 12-13 and old enough to go to football on our own, we were fortunate to pay (I say we, when really it was the Bank of Mum) very little each season for our tickets. However neither of our parents were particularly interested in coming with us to games, and whilst my dad would come along every once in a while (to make sure we were okay more than anything I think) These ticket prices became normal, and were fortunate to have football so cheap. when University started however, and the possibility of going to games reduced massively, I then would have also had to pay 4x the respective amount to keep my same ticket as the Bank of Mum had been exhausted by this point. To pay that much and not always be able to go was therefore an investment I couldn't make. holidays are when I am able to get to a lot of games, and any way in which it is possible to have a student membership, maybe just garunteed through having a season ticket for a couple of years prior to moving away, which would then allow priority, or the chance to take the seat I was used to at a reasonable price, by saying I was going, would be beneficial, and potentially increase the likelihood that when students return from university, they will take back up their season ticket.

You seem to be in the exact same boat as me, my mum wouldn't let me take my brother til I was 12/13 and first year at uni and first year without my ST, I am gutted I can't go as often and therefore my brother can't go as well my mum won't let him go on his own. If I can get tickets I am paying for me and him to go. This year has been so weird not being to go all the time, luckily this year all the games I have been to we have won, including the Donny game when the trains mucked up me and my brother ran form the o2 to get to the stadium as Dale scored his screamer. Got tickets to Wednesday for the original game was a bit miffed about that. I plan to skip uni Monday and get the train in the morning to get tickets if they go on general sale, will be happy to pick up a couple for you if you want?
Next year I think I might get a season ticket and just hand it out when I am not there or is that against the rules?
I reckon there has been a lot of buying for bandwagon family/friends/plastics. As a result expect a busy spares thread on here next week if they don't shift the tickets. Hope every deserving fan gets a ticket when they go on general sale.
I don't believe the bandwagon bit but there will be plenty of spares when timings and travel plans kick in.

The 98 play off final was smack in the middle of my Uni stint - at a time when I couldn't justify the cost of a ST. So despite having ST's before and since, at the point of Charlton's biggest game in my match-going history, I was essentially classified as Joe-Public.
Working on the unshakable principle that, 'if it can be difficult - it will be', I also had an exam on the morning that the general sale started. Fortunately, my step dad queue'd up and just about managed to get 3 from the last pile in the ticket office.
I like your idea Seth. Would be good to see the club offer nomadic students some kind of hybrid/alternative student ticket, or at least something that puts them higher up the ladder than general sale.
2nd year Uni student in London. Last year of the cheap rates and will probably let mine go for next season. Went 5 years missing 1 home game. Missed 2 this season because of work and won't be able to afford the extra to be an adult. Hoping they will still do 2 free tickets per season ticket and will have my mums for night matches.
The upper has now sold out according to the Commercial centre
I called up at lunchtime asking for 2 in Upper to be told they only had singles. I asked for 2 vaguely together and the lovely lady was very confused when she told me that the only singles they had close together were seats 60 and 61 in the same row ? I assume they are either side of an aisle. I bought them.

Aha a tout in our midst !!

However, if you said whether you were planning to buy in person, then perhaps someone could pm you their CON no & name.
Alternatively, if you live near a S/T holder who is not going, you could pay them & then collect from their address. Where are you ?
Just a thought. I'd sort you out if I could. I reckon someone here will.

Incredible support already!
Most of the tickets bought will be held by ST holders and or regular attendees.
