Well why did you guys not mention your worries before.............;-) (sorry could not resist)

I don't really like to talk about them. ;-)
  • I just can't see us getting players in who are better than the ones who've left, but I guess we'll have to wait until after the World Cup to bring in the big signings.

Don't understand this. So far none of the players that have left have made us materially weaker. Pope will I think be very capable and Dervite was an average championship centre back.

  • Poyet was never going to resign for us, let's get real for a moment, this sounds like another charlton cock up.
  • I am of course prepared to look a complete a complete berk, and congratulate the board on tying young Diego down on a 5 year deal, and more importantly persuading him to sort his locks out.

Would he ever have signed a long term deal with us ?

I remember the rumour 3/4 years ago that Gus only placed him at Charlton because it was convenient to the family home and would help him continue his education . He also wanted his son to 'make it' at a club away from the family connection. I would say that has now happened , so I could see him joining the Makems.

Would be surprised for Poyet to go to Sunderland. I read somewhere that he wouldn't play at the same club his dad managed.

Was always going to go. Why stay with us when he could walk into a higher end Championship team?

Wouldn't be surprised if he went to a midtable Premier League club and was slowly brought through for them.

Another player we should have sorted a contract for far sooner, but we were too skint. Thanks MS + TJ.
  • Diego doesn't sign it's a piss off granted, I would be gutted to see him playing elsewhere

If it's a premier league move then I can understand it, personally I don't think he is ready for that just yet

If he moves to another championship club then I will think that the club Shouldve done more to ensure that doesn't happen

However with regards to hamer and Dervite it really is a so what they were not that great and won't be missed imo
Morrison will be a bigger gap to fill

I saw Diego go into my local barber a few months back. He was accompanied by Harry lennon. Harry had the haircut so warching this happen may have been part of Diego's aversion therapy to overcome his fear of barbers. But then again it may just have reinforced his phobia.

Obviously I will be gutted if he leaves! But I hope he goes on to have a top career at the highest level! And I will look on with immense pride and say made in Charlton!
  • I'm still hopeful that he'll sign, he won't want to be playing reserve games next season.

Good luck to him but the that bothers me is .. We was in far more of a mess when shelvey was here but he signed a 4yr contract so we get a fee .. He wasn't to concerned about the "quality" around him..

We are much better now then back then.. But diego won't sign ?

I think that is really poor and shows the difference between a proper loyal pro then someone who seems to only think about himself

There was a Charlton before Poyet and will be a Charlton after Poyet..

all the people saying good riddance and the like.....

    reconsider your lives

the lad is pure class, if it weren't for him we would be in league one right now

we have an unknown manager/no real signs of squad strengthening as of yet and all our 'best' players are on their bike, he is quite rightly regarded as one of the best young midfielders outside of the premier league coveted by top clubs here and abroad.... what would you do if you were him?

whatever/wherever you choose Diego, I wish you every success

Diego was a really fond of Powell and was good mates with Hughsy. Theyve both left, and you'll be hard pushed not to say that the clubs not in a mess, why should he risk his future on what must feel like a sinking boat?

IMO Dervite looked our best centre back when played regularly towards the end of the season - he's left, surely that makes us weaker?

Hamer was our best goalkeeper - he's left, surely that makes us weaker? Etc

You are right but it's best to "move with" a crap charlton, rather than moan about it.
    That's what I've learnt anyway.

If he was going to sign for Sunderland then surely he'd have done so by now... Not like Diego has to sit down with the Manager to discover his playing phylosophy etc...

But he may want to sit down with the new Charlton coach to discuss that. Clutching at straws really.

  • Shelvey will always be highly thought of by the Charlton fans because of the type of person he is and for signing that contract so we would get a bigger fee. Hoping for Diego to do the same but don't think he will!

DP has helped save Charlton from one relegation. Maybe he doesn't fancy having to do it again. It is down to the management to give hope to DP, potential incoming players, and supporters that this season will be different to the last. It is a lesson that the management should be considering as how to blend Academy players into the first team. Also to make sure the contract situations are sorted out and these kind of situations are managed in the best way they can be.

I don't think Poyet is ready for a 'big' move and could regret it if he does choose to go to a Premiership club.

When he came into the first team he made a fantastic contribution. He gave us something that we were severely lacking. However, I would not yet say that he is a dead cert as a future Premiership player. He definitely needs a second season in this league to consolidate and improve. We all know about 'second season syndrome' and he will inevitably suffer a dip at some point. I would rather him experience this with us, where he will receive the time and the support of the fans rather than at a club where this may not be a given.

I'm not trying to do him a disservice or burst the bubble around him but he is very inexperienced and must stay grounded, as must we.
  • He made some very poor decisions in his passing and didn't create enough of an offensive threat

I.don't mean in the Ross barkley mould I.mean in how quickly he went from breaking up attacks and moving the ball forward

Until that is in his locker as the norm then the prem is too far too soon

To be honest, we did have a relegation scrap last season, while I understand we didn't have a proper striker, the whole squad was clearly not good enough. Although of course I would like to see Poyet stay we need to let players go and bring new ones in. It worked in 2011.

Fair enough, Barkley its way too attacking as an example, but the point remains, you must be able to attack a lot more effectively than he did last year in the prem.

Would love to see Diego Poyet one more season at Charlton. That would be a definite tipping point for me in terms of how the club is being managed.

Many posters have stated on that tipping point thread that they want to see the whole squad and the first few games to make a call. If CAFC cannot sign its to pyoung players like Poyet (and Gomez) then this is a real problem. The club can avoid expensive 25+ players by ensuring a good academy AND signing the best into the first team squad AND acquiring loans / short term contracts to top up the squad.

Every week we are getting to see another signing or two like Ansah ... and Pope on a long term deal. So let's see how June and July pan out. Give me a midfield of Wilson, Cousins, Jackson, Poyet, Ajdarevic and that looks good to me.

I still think that midfield is lacking a creative spark. We have to have that otherwise we will again not create enough chances for whoever our strikers might be.
