I may be wrong, but I believe these offences were committed 30/40 odd years ago.
If so, he probably isn't still a danger .
Is that how it works?
Well, if his last offence was in 1982, I should suspect with lower testosterone and also suffering from cancer, he's pretty unlikely to offend in the next 4 days.

Well tbh, I'm not expecting a famous 72ish year old bloke, suffering from prostate cancer to be in a position in the next 4 days to reoffend, when he hasn't since he was 30 years old. He's scum, but let's be realistic.
I shouldn't think he's got any business appointments with women booked in the next 4 days.
Yes he is 72, and probably unlikely to abscond, but for a crime as serious as sexual assault, he should be remanded in custody to await his sentence. That might be for his own protection, too. Hope he gets put away for a long time - he has a very few mitigating circumstances to see a reduction in sentence and a lot of aggravating ones. He will need solitary, methinks.
Rosina Cottage QC - the prosecutor - according to the web site for her chambers, she has a reputation for excellence in this area (sexual offences) gained from dealing with some of the most high profile and sensitive cases over many years.
I wonder if she gets the work because of her name, chose to specialise in the area because of her name or it's just a coincidence?
Just read a transcript of the judge's summing-up, which goes into disturbing detail about all the offences that were taken into account. Not for the faint-hearted, and I won't repeat any of it on here. But believe me, he's absolute scum of the most scummy order. A real nasty, NASTY piece of work.
Consecutive sentences rather than concurrent is pretty unusual. Rather gives a clue as to what the judge thought of him. However I'd suggest it does open the door for an appeal.

I read that the tarif for the offences for which he was convicted is now 10 years but at the time they were actually committed (70's and 80's) it was 2 years - hence the individual sentences for these 8 offences range from 6 - 24 months. It is, as I understand it, entirely up to the trial judge to determine whether sentences for multiple convictions run consecuatively or concurrently.
If he appeals this sentence then it is entirely possible that the Court of Appeal could increase his total sentence by applying the maximum 2 years for each and every one of the 8 offences and still order them to run consecuatively (16 years).
