Sat at hither green for 40 mins. Driver has just told us to make other arrangements. Half the train get off to get taxis. 30 secs later a guy reveals that the southeastern twitter feed has just announced that the problem is fixed. Two minutes later our cheerly driver announces its all sorted and we're now on the move. Unbelievable. Sorry for those who baled.
Left work at 5.00 yesterday, got to Cannon St and the 5.06 was still there so jumped on that. Went nowhere. After sitting in the oven for 20 minutes we're told that a train had broken down outside the station and that no trains were running until that was sorted. Struggled out of the station and went to the tube station to get a tube to Embankment and catch a train from Charing Cross. There's a tube sitting just outside the station going nowhere. Only announcements being made are mumbled and timed to coincide with tubes passing through in the opposite direction so nobody has a clue what is going on. Eventually the tubes start running again and I get to Charing Cross, just in time for the 5.57. Get as far as St Johns and sit between there and Lewisham for best part of 30 minutes, inching forwards every few minutes. Finally got back to Welling at 7.00!
admitedly longer and always old trains but using victoria ( touch wood ) i very rarely get delayed and always get a seat imagine if these cretins got away with putting all services down 1 route from 1 station, last night would of been even more chaos than it was.
Don't miss this journey into work since I moved and have started getting the high speed service from Ebbsfleet to Stratford, even if I have to pay through the nose for the privilege.
10 mins on air conditioned train and only a couple of minor delays (15-20 mins) in 3 months.
Still get some trains with only 6 carriages so passengers are squeezed in like sardines during rush hour but only a 10 min journey time rather than 30 - 40 mins. The service is run by Southeastern so has to be some cost cutting somewhere!
Did the London to Brighton with a couple of mates Sunday. They stayed in Brighton Sunday night as southern helpfully banned bikes for the entire weekend.
So.monday they get a lunchtime train back to London, except there problems on the line so takes over 3 hours to get to London.
They then try to get a a train just after 4pm, but get told no bike during rush hours, they'll have to wait until after 7pm.
They duly hang around for 3 hours and get on to a rammed train at 7:06, probably hated by everybody on there for bringing bike onto a rammed train.

On a weeks holiday in Cornwall, I would normally be doing the daily Faversham/Cannon St commute, my wife and I have been thinking about relocating to Cornwall and being mortgage free and finally saying f___ off to the daily commute, think this thread may have tipped the scales heavily in the Cornwall move.
Just on phone to wife who is at New Eltham when the driver announced that the fatality occurred on the Grove Park line at Hither Green so they are letting some trains through on the other line - including her train which is about to depart.
Woolwich line heavily affected too. I didn't even know that trains went through Hither Green on this line ! No doubt because of the incident the trains and crews are displaced to the four corners of the earth.
Thanks for the early warning this morning guys. Read the last few posts just before I left home so have decided to sit it out for an hour or so till it settles down. Looks like Dartford to London services are all affected.

Trains out to Essex were all knackered earlier when I was walking back from the LME to the office
Anyone know what the rescue train looked like? Did it had a siren?!

Let eltham at 7:50 and was at Liverpool st by 8:30.
Left Liverpool st at 3:40 and was at eltham by 4:25.
Admittedly you can count the commutes I've done over the last 30 years on one hand.

They got home at 8pm instead of 2:30pm
